Chapter 36 - Melancholy

"Hi, uncle! How are you doing?", Denise asked while he entered Jason's house.

Chris slightly smirked at him, making him understand, how his life was, as a temporary Jobless person.

Chris who was gardening the daily-use vegetables on the corridor, replied to him picking out the sprouted one's," Limitless work, on a limited time".

Denise laughed at his fun reply, slowly walked towards Jason's room and knocked the door.

Jason and Denise joined together that day, to proceed with their secret investigation. Denise had bunch of paper works in his hands and collection of information in his HaloPad.

"What's with the recent update?", Jason asked Denise.

Denise swirled his watch, which brought out a huge beam of light on a wall, opposite to them.

It displayed a report of the details, he collected for a week, with the help of his uncle, from the Embassy.

[ The device on the assaulter's hand was captured by the light- drones and security cameras for a couple of times but clear images of it, might give absolute results]

[ The person looked a bit higher than an average person, with abnormal movements from place to place]

[ The person might have high knowledge about emerging technologies, as his device looked new, collaborating in his body.]

[ With further research and collection of information, it's more likely to find the true nature of the device with exact knowlege about it]

" I agree with your report, Senior. But, we're still lacking in the first stage and there's so long to reach to take hold of our operation. In this stage, there's one thing I can do to find a clue about him", saying Jason reached his table, which was loaded full of gadgets.

Just with those insufficient information in hand, Jason still went on with his work in finding the nefarious assualter. He opened up his portable Halotab and began his research on spotting the places he visited in the recent years.

On a split screen, which highlighted the unknown signals crossing the island, they both began recording the red one's blinking and sent it to the Embassy uncle.

Even though they needed the help of others, they never uttered a word about their mission to their friends and family, as it might ruin their project.

On the other hand, Chris was left alone in the corridor, who was already troubled by lot of thoughts running on his mind, since that morning. The noise of aircrafts thrilled him even more, making him worry about his beloved wife.

He was bothered about something, from the day he got accused of making unknown signals crossing through the Connector. After long hours of thinking, he suddenly got up, put on his suit and reached the boys door.

" Boys, I'm leaving somewhere important. Take care of the house and I'll buy lunch outside for you both", Chris said to the boys in a hurried tone.

The perturbed face of his father made Jason even more worried. He felt like his father might give a solution to his problem.

So, he signalled Denise to wrap up the work and followed his dad instead, as soon as he stepped out of the house. They both followed him, without his knowledge and made sure that no one saw them sneaking him.

Chris got down from the speed lift and went left towards B12. With just few steps, he got inside block 12 and reached his friend Mark's house.

" Sh...t, he's just visiting Ailee's house to talk with his friend. It's just a waste of time following him. Come on, let's go back!", saying Denise pulled Jason's sleeve, to take him back to work.

Jason pulled him up to his side and said, "Shhh...shh...Wait and watch!. Let's listen to their conversation and come to a point".

Ailee conversed to Chris looking at him sitting alone in the hall " Hi, uncle! Dad is in his room for long. I'll go and send him", saying she ran to his dad's door to pull him out.

Jason sneaky walked towards the door and inserted a pin hearer in a wall close to the door, to hear their conversation clearly. As soon as the automated door closed after few minutes, they both took a spot near a vase outside the house and sat in the corner.

They could feel the atmosphere was dull between those old friends, even from hearing through the earpods.

" It's bothering me Mark. How did signals outside the limited border cross our station? How did you disregard the problem?", asked Chris.

Mark lifted his brows up and replied to him with a slight frustration," I owe my apologies, as I'm the one responsible in checking the signals. It might have happened during the festive or bonus streaks. It's of no use talking about it now".

The way he spoke made Chris exasperated for a moment, but he controlled himself keeping his friendship on mind. Mark's words disturbed his peace of mind and he felt as if he'd done it intentionally.

Mark got up and went back to his room with frustration. With a face of disappointment and confusion, Chris left the house unsteadily.

Jason and Denise got stunned by the sudden twist of both of those friends.

Is Mr. Mark we knew different from him?", saying Denise elbowed his friend aside.

Jason ignored his words and made himself rewind the things that had happened before. No matter how long he thought about it, he wasn't able to find a single reason to accuse Mr. Mark.

Ailee ran behind Chris to make him clear about her father. It was all useless to talk with him again, as her father's words deeply hurted him.
