Chapter 23 - The Death Fell in Love

Rehor Jedrick's Pov~

"He looked suspicious and I almost thought he was a girl disguised as a guy," Zephyr's assumption rang in my head repeatedly like a sledgehammer.

I still remembered the way Sandros reacted when he heard Zephyr's statement. He became white as a sheet as if, he had seen some ghost. He looked anxious as if, he was caught red-handed.

Was it possible that Mr. Sandros was in fact a Ms. Sandros?

Earlier, when we went to the restroom, he looked edgy as if, he was entering the men's room for the first time. His face flushed with embarrassment. He didn't even raise his head. His gaze was locked with the floor.

Thinking about the possibilities of Sandros being a girl, he had soft features and he looked so young for his age. His skin was so soft and smooth.

His eyes were his most prominent feature. It held innocence and determination in it. I could say that he was a good person just by a single glance. I knew evil when I see one.

I could still feel the soft curves of his hip on my rough hands from the night he accidentally kissed me. I never knew that he had curves, until that day. His body was well hidden in his three-piece suit. And I couldn't imagine him having a muscular physique.

Why didn't I think about it before?

In my defense, I was really not experienced in the female department. I was surrounded by death, blood, sinners, and punishment, since my existence in this universe.

I knew, how a female body looks like when I see one, but I hadn't seen his. I just felt his soft curves, so I couldn't come to a conclusion with that.

The night he kissed me would haunt my memories, forever. His lips were so supple and succulent against mine. I melted like an ice cream under him…or her.

And the way, my body was reacting, every time, when he touches me was something new in my entire existence. I was the god of death, for hell's sake. I could not be feeling this way for a mortal.

Was I falling for him, perhaps was it a 'her'?

How ironic it would be if the death fell in love with a mortal.

I thought to myself,

I dialed Helius to enquire about Sandros. On the second ring, he took my call.

"Yes, my lord."

"I want you to investigate about a Reynold Sandros, the one who, you chose as my personal secretary," I ordered him.

"I will get back to you with the report as soon as I can," he gave me his word and I ended my call.

Hmm,

Reynold Sandros, let's see what were you hiding from me. I intertwined my fingers with each other and rested my chin on my knuckles.

Adeline Pov~

"Fuck! I never expected her to go behind you to scare your boss." He cursed and paced the living room with aggravation after I recited the entire story. He ran his hand through his golden locks and muttered profanities under his breath. He looked feral and caged.

I sat on the couch and looked at his restless figure.

"It is okay, Jedrick handled everything and I am safe now." I tried to calm him down. If it was not for Jedrick, I would be six feet underneath by now.

He was my boss, I was not his responsibility. He could have left me alone when I complained that I couldn't walk anymore but he carried me on his shoulders and hugged me to his chest as if, I was so precious. Even though he knew that they were only after me, he didn't leave my side.

He kept me safe. Even though he was a mafia leader, I felt so protected with him. I was intimidated by him but the more I spent my time with him, the safer he seems.

"You have no idea about Caitlin. That woman was dangerous than you think." He kneeled in front of me and took my hands in his.

"Look, I can't disclose everything to you because she is my boss. In my kingdom, we take our loyalty more seriously than our own life. I hope you understand." He squeezed my hands and looked into my eyes. He looked so genuinely worried for me.

I nodded my head in understanding and gave him a reassuring smile. In my world, it was hard to find a loyal person but his world sounds good to me.

"Don't worry. I will be extra careful from now on." I squeezed back his hand. His face was still etched with concern but he relaxed a little after hearing my answer.

"Dinner is ready, I will set the table, you freshen up." He suggested.

"I would have never guessed that the prince knew to cook." I teased him to lighten up his mood.

"I don't, but I have learned a little during my stay in your realm." He gave me a lopsided grin.

"But I have to warn you, my cooking is not that good." He warned me.

"Arsenio, Your effort alone is more than enough to make the food delicious." I cheered him up.

I went to my closet, picked my pajamas, and went to the bathroom to take a shower. I removed my wig and get out of my three-piece suit. I neatly folded my clothes and arranged them on the counter. Then I took a warm shower which loosened my stiff muscles. I sighed with relaxation.

My shower lasted for ten minutes. I squeezed the water out of my hair and wrapped a towel around my head followed by getting into my pajamas. I exited my bathroom and saw that the table was set with scented candles and a cute little flower vase.

My apartment smelled good and it put me at ease. My apartment was small, my bedroom, living room, and kitchen were connected with a single bathroom and a balcony. The light was dimmed and it looked…romantic?

"Adeline, come, have a seat." He told me. His voice was smooth as butter and I was the one who melted in the process.

He was wearing a t-shirt now. The shirt hugged his muscular frame and left nothing to the imagination. I paddled near him and he pulled the chair for me to sit. I muttered a small 'thank you' and took my seat. He sat opposite me and we began eating.

He made us spaghetti and it tastes pretty good, actually.

"It is delicious." I complimented him and he grinned at me toothily.

"Where did you got these things from?" I enquired as I took a bite. I was actually surprised that he set the table within ten minutes with all this romantic stuff on it.

Where did he even get them from?

"Your cupboard," he shrugged.

That made sense.

Now looking at this flower vase, I remembered that bought it two years ago when I moved in here.

I used the vase for two weeks but after that, I abandoned it on my kitchen cupboard, since I was too lazy to take care of plants. He might have got the scented candles from there too. After our food, we both were doing our dishes. He stood beside me and wiped the vessels, while I washed them.

"Adeline," he interrupted me.

"Huh?" I hummed without looking at his face. I was focused on the task in my hand.

"Are you free tomorrow?" his question made me take a glance at his face. His face looked like he was planning something and he looked at me with expectation. I resumed, doing my work.

"I am,"

"Perfect! I want to take you somewhere." He replied with zealousness.

I washed my hands and wiped them off with a towel and turned towards his grinning face. His smile was infectious which made me return his smile.

"Where are we going?" I tried to get something out of him.

"That's for me to know and for you to find out," he tapped the tip of my nose which made me blink my eyes. I shook my head at him, my grin was still intact on my face.

That night we both slept in our usual place. He slept on a mattress that was arranged neatly on the floor beside my bed. I slept on my bed.

My exhaustion took over me and I was out like a light as soon as my head hit the pillow. That night, I dreamt of a particular dark-eyed man who was cold yet warm from inside.
