Chapter 12 - I will give you my popcorn

The weather was continuing to get dark. The clouds were white but were replaced by the black ones. The wind blew gently, the trees followed with their dance.

Leaves swing upon the branches, while the branches follow in with the rhythm. Greeting the passer-by in their swift gentle movement.

After Silvos left the kids on their own near the entrance of the park. They carried their snacks and decided to enter it.

The main entrance was guarded by a middle-aged man in his job uniform while he performed his daily duty.

The guard notices the kids who were nearing the gate and greeted them with a warm smile. The kids were the daily visitors so he recognised them.

"Hey kids, are you coming from the sweets store," asked Guard with an amiable smile.

The gentle breeze flowed again making him immersed in its feeling for a few seconds.

Jonas and Frieda's hairs too danced along with the breeze.

"Wow, even wind is blowing now," said Jonas while the wind caressed his face.

Fried replied to the guard with the same smile "Yes uncle we came from sweet's shop".

It wasn't a lie though. The popcorn and candy-sweet they had purchased in the theatre, they had finished it all during the movie show.

So when Silvos was driving through a Sweetshop, he decided to buy it for them for the park. When they would get hungry they could eat the popcorns and cotton candy.

The guard gave them the entry without a second thought and resumed his duty.

"What do you say, who will come to play today," asked Frieda while the duo walked upon the pavement designed for people to jog, walk or run around.

"Uhm I don't know, the weather is changing too quickly," Jonas said as the whole weather was changing very quickly.

First, it was a clear sky then the clouds occupied the whole sky, then the wind started blowing replacing the current white clouds.

They walked for a while while they continued to resume the chat about the movie.

Finally, they approached the area where the fountain cross-divided the pavement into four parts. Separating different play areas in different cross-section.

Frieda and Jonas decided to select a seat while they waited for their friends to come.

"We are quite early," Said Jonas as he took popcorn from the big bucket.

"What should we do," Frieda said as she racked her brain.

Jonas too joined with Frieda as he tried to think of a solution to pass the time.

"Ha, why don't we listen to the songs," said Jonas while slapping his thigh.

"Good idea, the latest one, the one with the melody" Frieda joined in happily.

Jonas tuned his hologen to play the melody. The melody in this weather quite suited to the environment.

The melody sounded and the breeze passed caressing their bodies. Time passed as they forgot about the children shouts and cries, the adult's gossips and laughter, the domesticated dog and cat excitement.

Only the melody, the rustling of the leaves and the wind that danced with them sounded to their whole being.

While they were immersed in their own world. An old man appeared in the park.

The old man looked quite extraordinary. But something was with him, people didn't seem to notice him

He had white hairs with red streaks in between them. His eyes were hazy crimson eyes quite different from ordinary people. His skin and face were wrinkled. He too had a crimson beard with a smile that hung on his face giving him quite an amiable impression.

He walked in large strides with a cane in one of his hand. His steps were not too large nor too short but he covered a distance of 10 metres with each of his steps.

The kids were wholly environment bounded when the old man passed through the pavement and took a seat along with them. Joining in their way of listening to the song.

"It's quite a nice melody for this weather," The old man told them in his deep voice.

"Huh" Jonas and Frieda made instinctive nasal noise as they both opened their eyes looking toward the source of the voice.

They saw an old man sitting by their side.

"Hi grandpa, are you here again," said Jonas with a smile, indicating he had met the old man before.

"Don't you have something to do in your home?" said Frieda as she joined Jonas in conversation.

"Home hehe," said the old man as he laughed after saying the word home.

The clouds rumbled at the same time as if joining in his laugh.

Jonas and Frieda looked toward the sky at the same time.

"Uh it's rumbling too," Jonas said getting distracted.

"Now tell us" Frieda looked deeply.

"I came to watch you guys," said the old man with the same smile.

The old man tapped on the grass with his cane as he was conversing with the kids with a gentle expression.

Jonas was curious about the cane in the old man's hand. He wanted to touch it but remember his parents saying to never touch other person's item or things without the owner's permission.

"Hey, grandpa, can I touch that" asked Jonas with a pleading expression with curiosity filling his eyes.

The old man just laughed, reminiscing his past.

"If you show me your cane, I will give you my popcorn," Jonas said enticing the old man.

"You will give me popcorns," said the old man in his deep voice with a pondering expression.

"Yes, yes as much as you want" Jonas while gradually closing in the popcorn bucket.

"Yeah me too, you can take my candy," said Frieda as she couldn't resist the temptation of the unique cane.

They couldn't find what was unique about it, but the cane had some attraction to them saying to them as a devil 'touch it'

"Um sure, you can touch it," said the old man giving them the cane.

"Yay," both cheered as they passed their snacks to the old man.

The old man could only smile wryly as he took the popcorns and candy in exchange for the cane.

"Be careful, don't touch it for a long duration" as he popped the popcorns in his mouth.

His warning fell on deaf ears as the kids started playing with the cane. Sometimes imitating like an old man or sometimes as a gentleman.

'Hmm, it's quite nice' the old man thought popping one after another.

The weather had gradually changed since the time they got into the parks. The white clouds had been replaced by dark ones and the wind had gradually increased too.

Their friends came after a while.

They were also implicated by the weather forcing the little demons to come into the park and play with their friends.

They decided on playing hide and seek due to the gradually turning dark and gloomy environment.

"Hey grandpa will you watch us," Jonas said while handing the cane to its rightful owner.

"I will be watching, but don't expect me to help you," said The old man chuckling showing his teeth toward the young Jonas.

"Nice try creeping me old man" Jonas was not frightened by the old man.

"I have told you to not call me old man" reprimanding the young Jonas. Who just laughed mischievously and ran toward his friends.
