Für Elise: one of Ludwig van Beethoven's most popular compositions.
◇
Yang Liu just finished taking a shower. It was half-past eleven in the evening, but it didn't feel good if he missed a shower. The convenience store was quite busy tonight.
He was a vampire, but he was still sweating after doing many activities. He was a vampire, but some part of him was still human.
The handsome guy rubbed his wet hair with a small towel as he walked over to his bed. He then took his cellphone from the top of the nightstand, then turned on the rectangular object that had been in a dead condition.
As soon as the smart object lit up, a message appeared on the screen. He then opened the message, which turned out to be from his best friend.
['Take care of yourself, Yang Liu.']
Yang Liu frowned in confusion at the short message. 'Why did the message sound like he was going to leave me? Will he leave me? Should I call to ask him?'
The guy with the surname Yang almost moved his long finger to press the phone icon, but he held back when he realized that it was very late now.
'I will just call him tomorrow,' the young vampire was forced to ward off his curiosity about the contents of his best friend's message.
Besides, it was not certain that his suspicion was right. His friend cared about him so much that he often sent weird messages like that. In his eyes, Yang Liu looked like a little child who would always stumble when he stepped so that he needed to pay close attention every second.
The drowsiness didn't come. He was used to sleeping at midnight, or not sleeping at all. As a vampire, he had a high endurance.
His throat suddenly felt dry, so he walked toward the kitchen. He opened the refrigerator and found it was filled with glass bottles filled with thick red liquid; blood.
Yang Liu took out a bottle, opened the cap, then took a slow sip of its contents. A rancid smell hit his nose, but he was used to it.
At first, he also felt strange and disgusted, but after a long time, it became addictive. The fishy smell was something alluring for him.
The small bottle was finally empty, and Yang Liu placed it on the table. Tiger blood was not as good as human blood, but at least it could make him survive.
He hunted in the forest once in a while. The only 'food' he could consume was blood, so he had to hunt for the sake of his life. Hunting big animals like a tiger were quite bothersome and tiring, but he preferred the wild animals' blood. That was why he kept hunting wild animals like tigers or lions. He had to fight them before he could win their blood.
Yang Liu's footsteps led out of the kitchen. He wanted to go back to his room, but the corner of his eye saw a large white piano in the living room. Piano, someone earlier said that he wanted to play the piano and aspired to become a famous pianist. Yang Liu subconsciously smiled faintly as he remembered that.
His legs stepped closer to the white piano. He then stroked the surface briefly after he stood beside the big thing. It was quite dusty.
"When was the last time I played with this thing?" Yang Liu started his monologue. "Ah, it looks like I was wrong. I have never played with this thing at all since that stubborn guy bought it for me."
[Yang Liu just entered his new apartment with his best friend. He glanced at his surroundings and was amazed by the luxury apartment.
"This place is too big for me," the vampire commented.
His best friend just smiled as he put down a suitcase that was belonged to Yang Liu. "This place has the best security system in this area," he replied. "You don't have to worry about your safety if you stay here."
Yang Liu didn't respond. His best friend had helped him a lot, and he felt uncomfortable about that.
He was about to say something, but then his eyes caught a glimpse of a familiar thing in the corner of the room. He subconsciously walked toward the big object.
"Why did you buy a piano for me?" Yang Liu asked without looking at his best friend.
His best friend didn't immediately answer. Instead, he walked over to Yang Liu and stopped beside him. He brought his smooth palm to touch the piano's shiny surface.
"I know you like to play with the piano, Yang Liu. If you are bored here, you can play with it," his best friend explained.
Yang Liu was still silent as he stared at the piano blankly. Piano gave him an indefinable pain.
"I don't like to play with it anymore," Yang Liu replied coldly.
It seemed that his friend had expected that kind of answer, so he didn't look surprised at all.
"Piano can heal you, Yang Liu. Please don't stop playing with it. You have natural talent, Yang Liu."
Yang Liu finally looked up at his best friend as he snorted. "What healing?" He asked coldly. "Nothing can heal me. As long as I still have this monster body, nothing can heal me."]
That was his conversation with his best friend a long time ago. Yang Liu suddenly recalled the moment, and he sighed tiredly.
He didn't really want the piano, but his friend casually bought it for him. His best friend knew very well that Yang Liu had been fond of playing the piano since he was little. But unfortunately, Yang Liu had never played with it to produce a nice melody. There was a fear of touching that large object.
But somehow, Yang Liu pulled out the chair under the piano and sat down on it, then opened the cover board that covered a row of piano keys. Yang Liu tried to press a key, and it still made a loud sound.
After taking a deep breath and exhaling slowly, the tall guy began to press the keys one by one, resulting in a composition that sounded both sad and mysterious at the same time. The song was full of riddles and controversy.
