Once he caught up with the other two, who had been discussing something about the mall the merchant was building in Basilea, Mattheus opened the hand that contained the piece of jewelry the calico cat gave him.
It was a bracelet. There was a mother of pearl medallion that dangled along a chain with what might be aqueous diamonds and some green and pink beads. It reminded him of a rosary and looked a bit familiar.
"Jack," he called as he lifted the present up after wiping of the slight amount of cat spit on it.
"Sir Mattheus? Oh, what's this?"
"Something a cat left behind," Mattheus replied quite literally, though knew it sounded like he was avoiding telling the truth. "What is your assessment of this?"
Handing it over to the experienced merchant, he met Liam's eyes and winked conspiratorially.
