Suddenly a faint voice resonated in his mind, 'I'll wait for you.'
He tried to find the source of the voice, but it seems to be coming out from nowhere. His eyes landed on the wall clock to check the time, and it was 3 a.m.
In different religions, the hour between 3 to 4 a.m. is believed to be the time when the veil between the worlds is the thinnest. Spirits and messages from the other side can come through during this time. If a person wakes up at this time, he should try to organize his thoughts, and he would find a message hidden there.
'I'll wait for you.' Once again, the same voice echoed in his mind, and this time he discovered that the voice's owner wasn't showing up from anywhere because it was residing inside his mind. It was the sound of a memory.
But who? Was it someone from his nightmare which he saw earlier? No matter how hard he tried, he can't remember anything, neither the voice nor the dream. It's like something he can feel but can't touch. He can feel the bitter-sad emotions of the vision, but he can't recollect the reason behind them.
Memories...memories? Suddenly he retrieved something. His hand moved to his left cheek on his own, and it stroked the place where he has dimples. It was this spot where Somya had kissed him in the day.
Her peck was quick and easy, just like a hummingbird who she is. But that one simple gesture was enough to send a sudden jolt in his body.
At that moment, he stood frozen on his spot for few seconds because several emotions rushed through his mind suddenly, hate, pain, love, anxiety, and in the end, grief. It was like a dam of memories had broke somewhere, and he found himself drowning in the flood of sensations.
He felt nostalgic, almost like happiness, a lot like sadness with a hint of longing. It was like the briefest moment of time travel. In that single instant, he experienced all the memories, sentiments, and feelings he once held for someone in his past.
Like an emotional echo.
But just like the nightmare, he can feel those things, still can't recall them. At that time, he had brushed those sensations off, but now it happened again.
His steps subconsciously moved to the balcony window, from where he usually peeks at her. But there was no one on the other side.
'She must be sleeping at this time,' he thought but still sat on his chair near the window. He didn't feel like sleeping, so he started thinking about her.
Thinking about her! What a great thing to do.
Even after an hour, he still wasn't able to sleep. The questions in his mind made him even more awake. He knew he wouldn't be getting any rest if his brain kept thinking about her every time he tries to sleep. So he decided the last resort.
'Knock knock'
Even after 2 minutes, nobody opened the door.
'Knock knock'
A dreamy Rahul opened the door murmuring, "Who the hell is haunting me at this hour of the night."
After rubbing his sleepy eyes to his satisfaction, he finally opened them to identify the midnight intruder.
"Hey, I m a boy! What do you planning to do by coming here at 4 a.m." A wide-eyed Rahul covered his chest with both hands, looking for a bullied innocent girl.
Varun ignored his brainless talks and entered the room, directly settling himself on the big sofa near the full-length window.
"Brother, did you want to play Bloody Marry, and that's why you are here at this hour? No, I am not participating then."
"I am here to ask you something."
That was enough to trigger the sarcastic housewife resting inside Rahul. He angrily stomped his feet, "Mr. Kashyap, you may be the long-lost brother of Hanuman Ji*, devoting your everything to only one subject, but others are not like you. We have a private life other than the office..."
"It is something personal. Nothing to do with work," Varun interrupted Rahul's long speech, and his words managed to pique Rahul's interests.
Something personal?!
It's the first time his brother is here so late at night, and the shocking thing is he is here to discuss something apart from work.
He was thinking earlier why Varun hadn't called him if he had some work for him now it turns out to be something personal. Which matter can be capable enough to bother his bossy bro so much?
"What is it?" He asked with a hint of excitement to the icy figure sitting in front of him.
Varun sighed and told him, "I am thinking too much about her lately."
~He thought he isn't capable to provide her what she needs
But who knew
All she wanted was to crawl into his pockets
and be safe forever~
