"Wha..what are you...doing?' she stuttered.
Varun doesn't reply, only stared at her. Somya's heartbeat increased, and she felt her heart beating loudly inside her chest. His intense gaze and his caging her in his arms made her feel uncomfortable.
Sensing her obvious uneasiness, Varun sighs and says in an almost pleading voice, "Stay still...please."
Hearing his appeal, Somya frowns and asks, "Why?"
When she gets no reply from him again, she started pushing him. But no matter how hard she hit his chest, he doesn't even bulge. His arms were still settled, unmovingly on both sides of her face.
Somya thought for a moment before lowering herself, and she escaped by crawling out from his arms. She hurriedly ran towards Ansh's office as she was afraid Varun would try to catch her.
When Varun saw her fleeing, he quickly ran towards her to stop her, but it was already too late. She saw what he was trying to hide from her, and he witnessed her standing immobile for a whole minute before bolting towards the exit. He closed his eyes to hide the flames of anger in them before going after her.
"Somya?!" He searched in the alleys near the complex for some time, but he can't find her anywhere.
"Where is she?!" he asked himself after failing to track her. Somya ran empty-handed even her purse and phone were in Varun's car so she can't even go home on her own, which is what worried Varun the most.
He searched for her everywhere before finding her sitting in a park. In a lone corner, he saw her sitting silently with her hair covering her face.
If not for her trembling shoulders, he would have believed that she is unaffected by what she saw. He massaged his temples and silently came to stand behind her, stopping himself few meters away from her as he wants to give her time to recover while guarding her.
Earlier, walking in the corridor, Varun gets ahead of her when Somya stops in her tracks to fix her dupatta. That's why she missed noticing what Varun witnessed. He had seen Ansh enough times to recognize him from a distance.
He was sure the boy who was kissing a girl on his office table so passionately was none other than her fiance. He knew if Somya saw them doing this, she would be left heartbroken. So without even taking time to think, he pulled her towards him and pushed her against the wall.
Varun obviously knew it's rude to corner a girl, but he has no other options to prevent this tragedy.
He stared into her eyes to find any traces of anger or despair, but he relaxed after not finding any, which means she hadn't seen anything. When she asked him what he was trying to do, he asked the same question to himself too. But he didn't find an answer. He had no idea what would he get by doing this.
So he just told her to be still. He himself was unaware of how pleading his voice sounded when he said so.
He was anxious about her reaction so much as if he is the one guilty here rather than Ansh. She started hitting his chest after getting no reply from him, but he doesn't care. If she feels good after beating him, then he would let her beat him like this for the entire day. He is willing to do anything as long as she smiles at him.
But everything got ruined. That punk created a mess! And now he is the one feeling restless instead.
She was sitting in the same position for almost half an hour now, but she is still sobbing continuously. Looking at her trembling figure, Varun felt a pang in his heart.
He felt a sharp pain in his heart as if someone is grasping it so tightly. His eyes were glowing yellow because of the increase in his anger. He closed his fist tightly to calm himself down.
'Argh, that's it!' If he did not ask her to stop crying, he might lose control over his instincts.
Suddenly a hand rested on Somya's shoulder and a water bottle popped in front of her eyes. Somya flinched and turned to find Varun standing there. She lowered her eyes again and ignored him.
Varun was never good at consoling people, so he just sat next to her. He expressed it with his gesture that no matter what, he will be there for her.
Somya knows her Angry Young Man and understands his unspoken words well. So she leans on his shoulder and sobs softly. Varun pets her back from time to time.
They share an invisible bond that separates them from the rest of the world as if, they don't belong to this place.
We can only wait to find out if they really don't belong from here.
