It was making me anxious knowing I might amount upto nothing even if I decide to fight. I had none of the skills needed to fight a war.
The world ran on these special abilities that nobles possessed in their bloodline. Apart from this, there are commoners in every nation who aren't among the nobles.
Commoners were nothing but particles of dust to these nobles, but they were the primary necessities for a ruler to run their nation. Imagine a peaceful kingdom without its residents and their support?
Fortunately for the place I lived in, everyone were in favour of the nobles.
My mother was a pure noble. That being said, my father wasn't. He was a commoner, which made the rest of the next generation half nobles. Yes, I was a half noble and the chances that I could awaken my own special abilities were high, and as well as low.
"Quinn," Aenor leaned against the kitchen counter as I worked on the food. Aenor looked nothing like me, nor like my parents. I'm glad she wasn't one of us. "Are you leaving me?"
That's a heavy question to ask me right now, Aenor, but I believe you won't understand.
I smiled at her big curious eyes, always looking up at me. I ruffled her shoulder length hair with my hand.
We do get into fights, but I couldn't get into one right now. The fact that something was threatening her life was enough to put me off.
"I'm not leaving you."
"But, father said you have to be in the training grounds as soon as possible." She took a hold of my dusty shirt tightly. She's a child after all, leaving behind people, losing someone, facing death were heavy subjects. "And I don't want to live with father."
I went back to paying attention on the food. "I will return every weekend if I can."
"Is that a promise?" She grinned, eyes crinkling. She produced an aura I couldn't resist.
"Yes, that is a promise." Though, this was one promise I might not be able to keep.
I served food after, and we sat down together. This might have been a terrible day, but I was glad Aenor enjoyed her food sitting next to father.
It is true that earlier I was ready to pick the blade up and fight him while he blabbered nonsense, but he seemed reasonably exhausted. I had to hold back and listen instead.
"I will get the bath ready." Aenor informed, and upon my approval, she picked her empty plate up and walked out of the room, leaving us all alone.
He placed his plate down and looked at me as if he wanted to talk. I took my time instead, and intended on finishing my food first.
I couldn't listen to him anymore. He might lose his mind convincing me to believe I am the only one fit enough right now to fight against.. I don't know who.
"Quinn," He folded his hands, deep in thought. "There are a few things you need to know."
"Yeah, no shit." I muttered under my breath.
"I want you to enter the training grounds right away. There are very few people who are willing to join you."
"I haven't agreed yet." I furrowed my eyebrows at him, losing my appetite. He looked like he might continue talking for a while.
"I know. But if you do agree, then, I might be able to assist you and tell you something that's supposed to be confidential." He took a deep breath. "I am not sure of this either, but I assure you that you will not regret."
"I can't leave Aenor."
"I will take care of her."
"Yeah, and I would believe you because I have seen you doing so?" I snorted. "No way."
"Okay." He sighed, sitting up straight. "I will not force you any longer. It is up to you, I'm only here to inform you about the situation in the capital."
"And?"
"The Auris Clan showed no mercy in eliminating it's own blood. So, on your journey to the training grounds, you might meet anyone from Auris clan. Do not interact. If anything, run and hide-- or kill them." His sight was fixated on me and my changing expressions. I clenched my fists. "They killed the nobles. The Auris Clan is our enemy."
"Why are they doing this?"
I couldn't help but grit my teeth in frustration.
"Blood sacrifice." I flinched at his words. "That's what I heard from Vadon himself. The other clans, Scladris and Necos are neither your foes nor your friends. You can't trust anyone." He gestured his palms towards me. "Except for yourself and your team."
I don't know a lot. But I knew that our ancestors divided themselves into four clans: Mora, Necos, Auris and Scladris.
These clans soon divided the empire into four nations among themselves due to disputes, and the commoners depended upon the nobles for protection.
These abilities running through nobles in turn were based on their powers derived from Yin and Yang.
The theory of Yin-Yang is that Yang refers to the pure form of magic and Yin stood for dark practices of magic.
Our clan was Mora, under Yin. And Auris was under Yang.
"What is blood sacrifice?" I now looked at him in the eyes.
"A ritual, that the Auris clan is set on performing." Then he scooted closer to me, and took my hand in his. "Kill Vadon of the Auris Clan."
His voice was stern and assertive but barely over a mere whisper. It took me by surprise when his pupils starting shaking.
Was it fear that I saw in him? No, was it fury?
"Who is Vadon?" I asked, making no move to pull my hands away from him.
"A disgrace to the world."
