LIA
After the phone call, the siblings had agreed unanimously to stay on the lookout for their sister. Of course, she could protect herself, but they didn't want her on her own. This time they would go to war together and come back together.
When Alex got home from his meeting with Ryan, he was way too happy, almost like he had won the lottery, and Lia couldn't help but be happy for him just like any normal girlfriend would.
"Hey babe, I'm back," he had shouted so Lia would hear him, and she did, alright.
"you look so happy; what happened with Ryan. You seem to be in an excellent mood, damn. Am I going to share you with Ryan? Y'know I hate sharing, baby" Lia joined in as she got down the staircase with a soft pout on her lips.
Alex reached out to her and carried her down the remaining steps, which weren't even many, but Lia wouldn't object.
"says the girl who loves her showerheads more than me. But no, I'm just so happy. Ryan gave me an idea, considering I still don't feel like going back to the company, maybe I could divide my shares with you, I mean if you don't mind because at this point, you're the only woman for me" Alex was genuine, and Lia was taken aback.
Maybe she had heard carl wrong, but she just waited.
Maybe he would ask about it later. "also, I wanted to send a package to Norilsk, to your dada and nana, but I really don't know your last name, darling. What's it for anyway?" Alex asked, gently setting her n the love chair as he made himself comfortable beside her.
He was playing hit her hair this time, this was to make the conversation seem random, but they both knew it wasn't. Lia contemplated telling him the truth to see his reaction, but she changed her mind last minute.
"damn baby, you want to send the Jacob family a package? What's gotten into you? Are you okay, or do you miss the hunting sessions and the cold nights because I, for one, don't miss it at all? I don't hate them, but that weather is a no for me" Lia lied smoothly, and Alex was convinced, but he also realized she didn't respond to the first question.
Maybe she wasn't ready to take that step with him yet, but at least she was called Jacobs, which made him feel better.
After all, the first name Ryan had suspected was Jacobs. He reminded himself that suspecting his girlfriend wasn't really the way to go because that would only lead them to more problems. And he was right. If he didn't trust Lia, there was a chance he would be caught in the crossfire, and she didn't want that for him. she loved him and would do anything to protect him even if he was a curious ass. The rest of the day went by so quickly, but Lia knew she had to go back to her apartment.
There were things she needed to be sorted.
"love, I need to go back home; Nik will not be pleased if I stay another month without going home," she started as Alex looked up from their bed and at her. They had been in the bedroom for a while now, and Lia knew there was no other way to break the news to him.
"you can just tell him you are with me, and he shouldn't even worry because I could protect you better than he can," Alex whined.
The house would feel so empty without Lia, and he wasn't so sure he wanted to imagine her away from him. But then he had to remember that they had been living together for so long, and they both had different lives, not to mention Lia had not said anything about the suggestion earlier.
He really wanted her to be part of his life, and he didn't want her all alone. He felt responsible for the way her life had turned out, and he just wanted to make amends.
"you talk like you don't know the guy. He could probably ground me if he could. Besides, I need to get a job, and no, I'm not feasting onto your shares. That is the fruit of your hard work.
Hopefully, I'll get one soon because I can't live on you or Nik paying my bills, that's not acceptable to me" she mumbled the last bit to herself, but Alex heard him. he knew she was an independent woman, but he wanted her to know what was he was hers.
"then you can be Ryan's secretary, and I know you don't want Lexi's secretary fired so that you won't be taking anyone's job. You can be his assistant before I come back, plus you know him, and he will treat you well. C'mon, baby, doesn't decline this too," Alex pleaded with her.
Lia was thinking so fast and hard. Her being Ryan's secretary would probably blow Damien's veins off his neck out of anger, but then being his secretary meant that she would be in the loop with whatever was happening with Ryan.
Amelia James had never needed a job.
For starters, her inheritance alone was enough to push her for the next ten years. She came to form a dynasty, one whose money kept flowing, and even with their parent's death, they were still able to survive if ever they chose not to work, all five of them.
And if her inheritance seemed inadequate, then the money she made off the drug sales in her gang ad already sealed her fate as a multibillionaire in the underworld but a very poor secretary on the outside, and she didn't mind.
She had already thought about what she was doing, and even though she refused to admit it, this was not just about the fight for justice. If it were justice, she would have had ran arrested long ago. This was her revenge, and even her siblings knew that.
Eight years was way too long a period for them to keep fighting for justice when they had never filed a single lawsuit against Ryan. Maybe because they were sure the police were easily bought, and the justice system was rigged with justice being given to the one who paid the most money.
She was not fighting for justice.
She was fighting for her revenge, and so was the man beside him who wanted revenge for the way their lives had turned out to be.
He was looking for her, and she was hunting down his best friend.
What a life they were living.
What kind of fate was this?
