ALEX
When he had come back home, Alex hadn't expected everything that had happened.
He hadn't expected that his sister would go all berserk on any and everyone who tried to taint his name.
He hadn't expected that his parents would distance themselves from the whole fiasco as they grieved in silence, but more than anything, he hadn't expected that the Spanish bastard and Jia or Jill as she now preferred to be called, had known each other.
When he had gone home, his parents didn't hesitate to shove the company in his face, and frankly, Lexi also seemed to want the same.
She wanted to live her life how she had planned it before the multiple tragedies that happened to them. But he couldn't agree to it, take it as you may, but Alex knew that his sister had worked hard to maintain the reputation the company had right now.
That was something that even his parents couldn't have managed.
He wasn't just going to take it away from her.
When Lexi had given up her share of the company years ago, she had done it knowing that her brother would make the company grow better, a task that he almost failed at but recovered from so quickly.
That was the time Mia was always on her medical missions, but from what he had learned, the woman sacrificed her doctors without borders mission to take care of Lexi, and he would always appreciate that.
He hadn't expected the chain of reactions that had happened after their supposed death, but then he wasn't going to sit and cry over it. People were hurt, and people lost people, but in the end, they had come together to make everything better, and he couldn't have asked for more.
Now away from the company, Alex knew he still had to find out who was behind the explosions. He knew the vigilantes were given the mission, but he also knew that there had to be someone powerful behind them.
Even if they were extinct at the moment, he knew how the underworld worked. Cut one head, and seven will grow in its place, and that was the logic.
There would always be other vigilantes filling up space for their dead.
There would always be people seeking revenge and justice, but he was seeking neither. What ad happened already happened, but he needed to know who could have had that much power to get in a highly secure party, the most dangerous so far n the neighborhood, and still threaten people there.
They had to have the support of powerful people, and the only powerful person he knew was Jay. However, from the information he had gotten, jay hadn't harassed his family because of the debts they had owed; instead, he had given them a grace period for them to pay up.
Sure, they had almost sold Alex's convertibles, but they didn't, and jay had made their lives easier. If jay had wanted him dead, he would have done it after he got his money back. Killing Alexander wouldn't bring him his money, and they both knew that.
This could only mean that someone else was in the playground, someone who knew enough about his family to know there was a party, and someone who knew about the tunnels because the bombs had definitely blocked the tunnels under the clubhouse. He had a lot of things to do.
He was, however, worried about his girlfriend.
Lia had been sleeping in late, and he didn't know what it was all about. Maybe she was tired, but tired people didn't spend all day in bed and crying in the bathroom when she thought no one was listening.
What did he do this time?
He honestly couldn't remember what he had done to screw things up, or maybe he had done something and couldn't remember?
It had been two months since they had shown up, but the past week was hell. The girl was moody as fuck, and while she tried not to show it, he couldn't help but worry.
Today he had brought home chocolates and flowers since the candy he had gotten her the previous day and the roses he had gotten her didn't seem to help. He had even tried asking the other women in his life, but all they did was laugh at him for being a screwup, but that's the thing, he didn't screw up.
He couldn't handle another week of not talking to her, so carefully and slowly, with the confetti and roses in his hands, he knocked on their bedroom door; hopefully, she was feeling better. He was feeling stupid for not knowing anything, and maybe he needed just to ask, right?
Knocking on the door, he got no answer, so he slowly pushed the door and got in, careful not to wake her up in case she was sleeping.
She wasn't.
She had been crying again and was watching something on television, it looked like a drama, or maybe she was crying over the drama, but could that explain her moods?
Lord, why were women so hard to understand?
"babe…how you doing today?" He said, putting the confetti box and roses on their bedside table. She didn't respond just sent a glance his way and went back to watching the darn thing.
Since when did dramas get more attention than him?
Was he going to have to share her with the fucking television too?
Maybe he would cut the wires later because there was no way he was going to compete with a darn television and stupid people who were doing shit he didn't even understand.
Maybe he would do that after asking her what ever the fuck was wrong with her because seeing her so sad was screwing with his mind.
He hated seeing her eyes puffy with tears, it always made him want to kill the perpetrator, only that this time, he wasn't even sure who did what and why.
"tell me baby, whose head do I need to shop off for making you cry?" Alex asked again, gently pulling her onto his lap.
God, he had missed this woman. "who am I killing today…I hate it when you're sad baby, tell me something darling…please," he couldn't help but plead with his woman.
