Chapter 4 - Chapter 03. I want answers

Start of Chapter 03.

Dains PoV

It was too bright for my eyes, but they quickly adjusted to the light. When I could see again there was a tree, a REALLy big tree, with a thick trunk and long big roots that reached deep into the ground. It was decorated with blazing red, yellow, and brown leaves that crowned the tree, there was a, what seemed like, a small lake besides the tree with a small hut.

The sky was painted with big, fluffy, ivory clouds and a gradient that surrounds the forest beyond the meadow, which wrapped the tree like a present with a small lake to the side. The sky was glistening with stars embezzled within  stunning, deep blues, that seemed to flow with the stars path to rise with the bright moon.

Below I spotted Orian's giant dragon body lying down, tensely, with his tail flickering about anxiously. I walked over stunned by how big his body was, he towered over me yet he seemed so small in comparison to the tree behind. Nervously I walked over and sat down by his front claws, this was the first time actually meeting him despite me being 27 already.

"Hi…"

". . ."

Orian acknowledged my presence, but said nothing… well that's a start at least.

"Ummm… it's nice to meet you in person for the first time."

"Likewise."

He responded!!! That's definitely a start!!

"Uhh can I ask a question?"

". . . Go ahead. . ."

"What was.  .  . all that. . . and what did you mean by, . . . they need us?"

Orian pondered for a moment, becoming more restless before answering.

"You must have felt it as well, right?... The feeling of being torn by the winds, the feeling of separation and loss, the pain of being alone and breaking your bones. You at least felt one right?"

Dain thought back to the gruelling experience he just had. And he had to agree, He had started feeling like the winds were trying to rip him apart, and that feeling only escalated to were he was put in a confinement room, soon it was followed with a need to protect, and what felt like, his bones breaking. But other than that… no.

"But what does that have to do with anything?" I question

Out of the corner of his eye, Orian stared at him like he was a fool.

"When our mates are in a serious… LIFE THREATENING situation, where they are more likely to die than live. We feel some of what they feel in order to let us know what's going on and to go to them.'

Dain was surprised at the news, "Doesn't that only happen when we find and love our mates!?"

Dain asked curiously.

"This can happen subconsciously before they meet us and mate." Orian stated matter of factly.

"Oh…" That was all Dain could say, he was dumbfounded!

I looked to Orian's dark green eyes nervously before asking, "Can I ask another question?"

". . ." Orian stared at me, as if contemplating whether or not I should speak anymore.

" ? " I stared back curiously.

". . . Go ahead. . ." Orain said slowly, fidgeting a bit.

Nervously I questioned.

"How come when you and I awakened… You never talked to me?" I stared at Orian, awaiting an answer. He fidgeted a bit more before talking.

" I have spoken before . . ." He said matter of factly before turning around to preen himself.

I scoffed." I don't think telling me to drop kick that one rude person and 'Eat 5 packs of bacon, I'm hungry' count."

Orian stopped preening himself and lowered his neck and head to be eyelevel to me, squinting his eyes a bit before saying in a lazy but demanding tone.

"I was tired with the awaking, I wanted to sleep. I mean, I did use a lot of energy. Nothing wrong in not wanting to talk and just wanting to sleep, am I right?" He then proceeded to yawn and stretch his wings, before he curled himself around me. It seems I won't be able to explore here for a while…

"I am feeling tired now… sleep?" Orian asked me. It sounded more of a demand than anything, but I was tired and the warm oats with honey with a hint hazelnut scent that drifted in the breeze was not helping in keeping me awake to ask more questions.

I fell asleep, surrounded by that lovely scent and Orian that was radiating a comforting warmth. Within the soft breeze blowing, underneath the tall tree set ablaze by the twinkling stars; set in the night sky. I fell asleep, deeply and calmly.
