Chapter 76 - Adapting

Maria tucked herself back into bed as she laid under the covers and tried to calm herself down.  She knew that Arthur leaving would be hard, but she thought that she would be alright. 

She stayed in bed until Lynne and Claire came at their usual time to get Maria dressed and made up for the day.  They seemed to notice that Maria was in a bad mood, but thankfully they did not care enough to ask her about it.  It was probably obvious enough that she was upset about Arthur leaving.

He was the one person she felt truly comfortable with in France, and he would be gone for nearly the same length of time as they had been engaged at that point.  She remembered Arthur's words about distance making the heart grow fonder, and she only hoped that remembering that would help the sadness she felt to fade away.  She just had to remind herself that him being gone was only temporary.  He would be back with her soon enough.
