Together, Maria and Arthur not only finished the bottle of wine that Julien had made, but they also drank about half of a bottle of rose.
Arthur had been smart enough to not overindulge in the sweets that the kitchen staff had brought down, but Maria on the other hand, made sure to try one of every flavored macaron. She had never had the little desserts before, and she was completely smitten with them.
The combination of sugar and alcohol bounced around in Maria's stomach and made her head spin.
She laughed uncontrollably as she told Arthur about the time she accidentally stabbed Jason when he first tried to teach her how to swordfight. They were teenagers, and Jason underestimated Maria's swiftness. She had confidently swung the sword, fully expecting him to dodge it, but she had been faster than him and nicked his arm.
