Chapter 10 - The True Trial (2)

Splat!

The severed head of the final Shadow Bear dropped to the floor, followed by its huge, lifeless body. Tiny arcs of lightning danced over the bodies of the dozens of dead creatures as Audu wiped his sword down. The corrosive element of the bear's blood tried to eat at the material of the sword, but the sword was too resilient and remained unaffected. After all, it was the God Slayer, a legendary weapon. The weapon's sky blue surface reflected his face, letting him see how ugly the frown on his face was.

~Vrooooommmm

A low vibration, along with the sound of the double doors wedged into the stone walls opening. The heavy metal doors groaned loudly as they were forced open. The sound of rushed footsteps echoed through the darkness. As Audu focused more on his sense of hearing, he began to pick up something surprising - hundreds of creatures were rushing this way!

Boom!

At the same time the door slammed open, a wave of vicious Dark Specie creatures poured out from its insides, bathed in darkness. They rushed towards him, stepping over any creature that failed to move fast enough. In mere moments, the fastest one was within striking distance! Audu did not waste time either. He already had his sword at the ready, and was poised for a powerful attack. Lightning crackled around his blade, extending to his body and wrapping around it. With a slight twitch of his hand, that lightning burst out, painting the darkness in a blinding white.

In that instant where the lightning struck, over thirty percent of the monsters pouring out of the gate turned into ashes. another twenty percent were covered in bloody, burnt wounds, while some of them were knocked out. Aside from those, roughly ten percent more of the monsters only got away with light injuries that would heal if given enough time. Too bad they didn't have the time.

The blue blade of the God Slayer flashed countless times in a single second, cleanly slicing off the heads, limbs, or outright slicing the monsters in half. Dozens of dead creatures were sprawled around the cavern by the ten second mark. Audu was nowhere to been seen, yet the agonizing screams and howls of dying monsters continued to resound through the darkness. Those lucky enough to have kept their heads by this time were perplexed, not knowing where their enemy was, yet, their ranks kept getting massacred.

From within the darkness within the gate that the monsters poured out from, a pair of deep purple eyes could be seen flickering about. Those pair of eyes, as simple as they were, had been tracking the extremely quick movement of Audu. The owner of those pair of eyes knew Audu's exact position, even with his constant moving, and Audu also knew of the creature's presence. Yet, there was nothing he could do about it at the moment. As someone whose power was the best of the best, it was much easier to spot someone as strong, if not stronger than yourself.

Audu continued merrily wiping the floor with the mass of monsters. No matter how much they tried, there was nothing they could do to hinder him. Some of them even started lashing out at their surroundings. Massive AOE attacks crushed weaker creatures under their power. Powerful tails, claws and other body parts swiped and hacked madly at their surroundings. Some special creatures that could wield dark magic even started casting spells to sniff out the human killing them, but it was all for naught. Those that were more aggressive were taken out first, their heads mercilessly sliced clean off their necks.

Minutes passed, and the last monster finally fell. While making sure to put the powerful creature he had sensed earlier within his vision, he went about with the harvesting of Cores. At a point, his bag got full. He scowled at the bag before utilizing magic to store the Cores in a sort of dimensional storage space.

"Now. Let's deal with you, shall we?" Audu's gaze lifted to meet the purple flames hidden in the darkness.

[You are strong, far stronger than what a mere human should be.] A voice laden with energy reverberated through the cavern. It echoed an rebounded against the walls, before reaching Audu's ears. He scrunched up his nose as a chill ran down his spine. It even had a True Voice. Certainly, it wasn't a simple creature.

"I can see you are also more powerful than anything I've faced so far. Any opponent capable of emitting such a presence is worthy of being known. What shall I refer to you as?" He replied with a sharp gaze.

[What or who I am is of no concern to someone who is about to die.] The voice replied from within the darkness.

Thud. Thud. Thud.

Dull vibrations passed beneath Audu's feet as the creature stepped forth, leaving the embrace of the darkness. The shadows seemed to move with it, dimming the barely lit section of the Floor. The form of the monster immediately drew a raised brow from Audu. It stood at roughly the same height as a human, and also had a roughly similar physique to that of a human, only that it was covered in pitch black armor. It's armor seemed to draw in all the light around it, making the atmosphere even more oppressive. An onyx longsword hung fro its waist. An armored hand rested comfortably on the hilt of that blade.

Audu narrowed his eyes even further as he tried to gain a feel for the monster. It was obviously a Dark Attributed monster, but what else could it do?

Whoosh! Clang!

As numerous thoughts flowed through his brain at an incredibly quick pace, Audu had already brought his sword before him. A loud clang echoed from the collision of their swords. In an instant, the monster had drawn its blade and lunged at Audu!

[Let's see how long you can last.]
