It's a good thing that Seraphine can breathe underwater.
Otherwise, she would've already ran out of air and drowned all the way down there – right where the wasteland monster has been lurking this whole time. She didn't expect that the creature would be this close to the surface. That's all the more reason why the palace should shut down this place and forbid everyone from getting near it.
'Is it supposed to be really this close, though? I mean, this couldn't have been the deepest part yet. As far as I recall, the lake still goes way further down…' Seraphine pondered, not getting any of this at all.
'More importantly, I have to avoid that lake monster no matter what. It appears to be coming my way, and if I try to go back to the surface now, I'll immediately get caught in the middle, considering the distance that I still have to cover to get there and the fact that I'm not a fast swimmer.'
