"You remember once you asked me for a favor? About her?" Carter spoke up, halting Shiro's nervous thoughts.
"Favor… oh yes," Shiro recalled immediately after Carter mentioned it. It was about taking care of her. He asked Carter in the hospital, just before he decided to keep himself away from her life. And just before he started ignoring her rains of calls, messages, or trying to get through to him via Alex.
"So, can I ask for the same? It's just, maybe for a longer time," Carter's voice lowered a lot, almost sounding muffled against the wind. For a second, Shiro didn't get his words, and his confusion was visible for Carter. So he turned back, facing Shiro, only to repeat his words more clearly. "I am entrusting her in your care, forever."
"Hah? You what?" Shiro was left in shock, hearing his words. What is he even saying? Does he even know what his words mean? "Senior, I'm sure I am mistaking something here, that I am. You surely don't mean that…"
