With my heart beating so fast it is almost a wonder that is doesn't crash through my chest entirely. This rush of feeling I get with Valerian is almost dizzying, intoxicating, like the rush of alcohol through the system but without any of the adverse effects. I feel breathless with exhilaration, and yet deep down a part of me knows that to get carried away by all this, to let myself succumb to that wanton feeling that feeds my heart would only play on the feelings I know nothing about. I cannot dive headfirst into whatever this is with Valerian without properly knowing just what I mean to Valerian. Not yet.
Noticing my apprehension, Valerian's body all at once become tense, his limbs turning to an immovable granite beside me. It occurs to me then that the room does not feel as warm as it did before, as though a bitter chill had sucked all the warmth from the air and breath from my lungs. A small shiver trembles over my skin.
