A few months passed by and Ava went on with her mundane life. If she had to be honest, she did have a tiny hope that what happened that night sparked something between her and Alex. There's something different, something special about him that attracts her towards him. However, she knew she had to face the reality. A person like him is way out of her league. They don't belong together. As much as he attracts her, she couldn't deny the huge differences between them.
She was working at a coffee shop near her house as usual when suddenly a row of black cars stopped in front of the cafe. "Is the president here or what?" Layla commented sarcastically while rolling her eyes in annoyance. Ava chuckled softly at her humor before turning away from the cash register to clean the kitchen counter.
She heard the doorbell chimes, signaling that someone had entered the cafe. She continued to wipe the counter clean until she heard someone clearing his throat behind her. She quickly turned towards the customer and waited for his order without looking up at his face. "I've been looking everywhere for you, babe." a man spoke with his husky voice before leaning against the counter. Her breath hitched and her heart stopped beating when she realized who was standing in front of her.
"Alex?!"
"Hey," he winked at her and leaned closer against the counter. "Alex. What're you doing here?"
"I told you I'll be back for you, didn't I?" the corner of his lips curled up into a small smile. Ava's heart skipped a beat when he whispered the last words. She stared into his eyes, trying to find the truth to his actions. What if he's just trying to use me? she thought to herself. She'd be lying if she say she didn't doubt him. An attractive man like him that could get any girl in the world with a snap of his finger was chasing a normal and unattractive girl like her.
"Why? There's nothing special about me."
A soft sigh escaped his lips before lifting her chin up with his finger. "Nothing special? You're beautiful." he placed a soft kiss on her cheek, her heart warming up from his sweet gesture. "S-stop. People are looking." She pushed his hand away gently. "So what? Let them look." he stared at her sweetly, elbows on the counter. "Just go if you're not going to order anything." She blushed hard as she looked away from him, unable to handle his soul-piercing stare. "When will your work end?" he questioned before leaning back and standing back up.
"At seven."
"Good. I'll come and pick you up. I need you to come with me somewhere."
"Where?"
"You'll see. And do me a favor. Don't run away this time."
"I won't." She let out a soft chuckle when he took her hand and placed a kiss on it.
"See you tonight." He walked out of the cafe, hands inside his pockets.
"You know that Mafia King?" Jisoo came out of nowhere and whispered softly to her when Alex got into his car and drove off. "What do you mean by Mafia King?" Crease formed on Ava's forehead as she tried to understand her words. "He's Alexander Young." she spoke and stared at the confused girl in front of her as if his name explained everything that's happening.
"So?" she shrugged her shoulders, not understanding a word she's trying to say.
"Don't you get it? He's Alexander Young as in the Cobra King a. k. a THE Grim Reaper."
"Cobra?" Ava's eyes quiver in fear as she recalled back the memories she tried so hard to forget and leave behind. "You're kidding me, aren't you?" she chuckled nervously, trying to deny the truth about his identity. "I'm not. Didn't you see how he made a grand entrance? Only the leader of Cobra have the power to do that."
Of course. What would I expect from my shitty life. It's absurd to think that I'll find happiness in this life. Such a hypocrite.
When she thought that she'd finally be happy, life just decided to take a huge dump on her because it wants to . When she thought she'd finally meet the man of her dreams, he had to be THE leader of Cobra. The type of people that she tried so hard to escape from just came waltzing back into her life.
She sat on the floor, her back against the counter as she breathed out slowly, trying to calm herself down. "Are you okay?" Layla crouched next to her, placing a hand on her shoulder. "I'm fine. Thank you for telling me that. No wonder he looked so familiar." Ava replaced her frown with a small smile, assuring her that she's okay.
Somehow, without herself knowing, she was assuring herself too that she'll be okay. Deep inside, she knew that this would happen sooner or later. She knew she couldn't ever escape life in gangs. A deep sigh escaped her lips when Layla walked away.
Ava spaced out for most of the time as she thought of a way to escape from getting involved with gangs. What should I say to Alex? The truth? That's out of the question. That's basically suicide.
She was too absorbed in her thoughts that she didn't even realize that Alex just walked in. "Thinking about me?" his voice yanked her back to reality as she composed herself, refusing to drool over the fine ass man in a suit in front of her.
"Just thinking of multiple reasons on why you lied to me." She rolled her eyes before walking back to the counter. "What is that supposed to mean?" he grabbed her wrist and pulled her towards him, their bodies crashing against each other. "What're you doing? Let me go. We're in public for God's sake." Ava tried to wriggle her wrist out of his grasp but he's just too strong for her. "Nobody walks away from me. I repeat. Nobody." he spoke through gritted teeth as one of his arm snaked around her waist, pulling her even closer than before.
"I guess I'll be the first to do that." He looked stunned as his grip on her loosened. She quickly moved away from him, creating quite a distance between them. If you're wondering where Layla was, she left early due to personal reasons so Ava had to lock up the cafe before leaving. That means, they're all alone in the cafe.
"I never lied, you know. I thought you would know who I am, so I didn't bother to tell you. Plus, you never asked me."
"You should've just told me. Not every person in the city would want to know about the Mafias." Ava rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Well, not everyone in the city lives under a rock, Ava." he retorted before crossing his arms, a playful smirk dancing on his lips. She stared at him in disbelief before turning and walking away. "So, what if I'm the leader of Cobra? As far as I know, girls would die to get my attention." he grabbed her wrist again but gentler this time. "Well, reality check." She grabbed his arm and pushed it away. "I'm not one of those slutty and desperate girls that would wiggle my tail at anything hot and attractive."
"So, you think I'm hot and attractive?"
Ava mentally slapped herself for praising him without herself knowing. A smirk was plastered on his face, quite proud that the girl in front of him found him hot and attractive. "You miss the point there, Alex." She sighed before looking back at him. In a blink of a eye, she was pinned against the wall. "I just love how my name rolled off your tongue perfectly." he whispered seductively next to her ear.
She let out a shaky breath as she tried to push him away with her hands but he didn't budge an inch. "Alex. What are you trying to do?" Ava stuttered. "You're right. It's too open here." he whispered softly before pulling her into the store room. As soon as the door closes, he kissed her lips hungrily. Without herself knowing, her arms snaked around his neck, pulling him deeper into the kiss.
