Chapter 7 - Chapter six

I woke up as early as five the next day. I took a long shower and brushed my teeth. The driver had already taken my suitcases down to the car.

As I dressed in my uniform, I stared longingly at my room which I have come to love so much.

My already make bed by the wall overhead one of my windows, My built in ward robe were all my clothes were neatly folded as they awaited my return,My dresser were all the novels my grandmother bought me were previously scattered but now inside my school bag.

I looked at my reflection in the mirror as I knotted my tie. Slipping in the silver pin with Marilyn engraved on it care fully and adjusting it.

I Bent over to adjust my stockings, lacing my black shoes. I won't lie,but this uniform really looks good. Thank God no beret came with it. That would be a total nightmare for me.

"Morenike!" My grandmother yelled from downstairs.

"I'm coming ma".I yelled back, staring at my room again for the last time before I walked out.

I trugded down the stairs meeting my grandma halfway.

"What took you so long?". She asked

"We are going to be late". I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.

"But grandma it's just seven o'clock" I caught my self the moment she sent me a warning glare. She hates when her authority is questioned.

"Sorry ma". She gave me one final look as she walked all the way down to the door.

"You're acting as if you don't know Lagos traffic". She laughed. Making me sigh in relief.

I thought she was angry.

" E go shock you" she trailed off in the popular Nigerian language 'pidgin' as they like to call it.

I don't really get it. What's the thrill in cutting everything you say in English when you can just speak English itself.

Am just saying.

" Why are you walking behind me" she bellowed.

"Walk in front jare, see her pepeye". I quickly walked ahead of her ignoring the fact that she just probably insulted me in yoruba.

This woman will be the death of me.

Marilyn secondary school. The giant red gate read as the driver drove in,my grandmother sitting stiffly at his side as she spoke to my mother over the phone.

"Yes we just arrived".

"I know,I know".

She turned in her seat and gave me her heart stopping smile.

"She looks good in her new uniform, you need to see her". My grandma gushed out.

I pouted at her as I shifted my face to the veiw before me.

"No,once we get in we will ask of her. She needs to show Mo around the place". They were talking about my supposed cousin.whom I haven't met yet.

The car pulled into a stop  in what looked like a general parking lot as we all got out.

I stopped in my tracks as I stared at my reflection on the car window. I have gained a lot of weight I noticed. My cheek bones were more Accentuated,my lips their natural colour. And my dark skin was glowing probably because of the baby lotion grandma bought me.

"Mo". My grandma called. I turned to her.

"Come let's go". She said, holding her hand out for me. I adjusted the straps of my school bag as I walked towards her, clasping our hands together.

She squeezed my hands reassuringly. She knew I was nervous.

***********$***********

After my school fees were paid and my new sport wears were given to me,my things were searched for any form of contraband.

I cringed when I remembered the man going through my underwear. A very faint memory lingered in my mindas his hands fiddled with my cotten and lace panties.

My grandma hadn't let go of my hand. She noticed my discomfort and squeezed my shoulder to ease my tensed muscles.

" Mister man why are you touching that. Kini!" She screamed at him.

He Immediately jumped from the sound of her voice before telling me I was good to go.

She kept on raining curses at him though as we left the staff common room.

The teachers sent someone to go look for Rolake since it was already time for break.

As we waited for her,my grandma kept on lecturing me to read my books and to stray away from boys. Apparently, the school was mixed. Forgot to tell you that part.

"Mama!". A voice screeched from behind me. I turned around and came face to face which a short petite girl.

She had lighter skin and her smile was so radiant it could light up a room. She immediately hugged grandma. Laughing like a maniac. Grandma laughed along side her as they exchanged pleasantries. As their laughter died down,Rolake turned to look at me another smile taking over her features. I didn't know how to act so went with been polite.

"Hi,my name is isrealla". I stretched My hand and held my breath for rejection. She was the first person I have seen since I came to Nigeria. Apart from my therapist Mrs Cole and my grandparents of course.

Oh and the house help.

She stared at my hand. And brushed it off. Pulling me instantly for a hug.

I let out a Huff at her sudden burst of energy. It's been a long time since I've met someone with this Kind of vibe. Well there was charliey. But this was different.

Rolake's burst off energy was very entralling. Like I said, her radiancy could light up a whole football field. Ok am exaggerating a little bit.

"Mama she's so nice and so beautiful" Rolake exclaimed, looking at me like I was from another planet. I love her already.

I blushed at her comment. God thank you for my skin colour. Am pretty sure if I was white,I would be as red as a tomato.

My grandma chuckled lowly the corners of her face wrinkling slightly.

"Yes she is".

"What do you rub on your skin to make you look this fresh.like one oyinbo." My grandma burst into laughter at this. I didn't know what 'oyinbo' meant but I knew from the way she said it, It was a compliment.

"Uhhhh,I just rub lotion". I answered, unsure of what to say.

" Ahhh, and she speaks like oyinbo too. I have an oyinbo sister ohh" she screeched, hugging me again.

I couldn't help but laugh. Her vibrancy was so contagious.

And now I know what oyinbo means. She pulled herself away from me, smiling at Grandma.

" I guess you have got it from here Mo. Rolake take care of your sister ohh" my grandmother spoke, seriousness lacing

Her tone.

"Yes ma". Rolake replied. Grinning like a mad man.

"Ok I will be going now" she announced pulling me into a short hug.

"Take care my dear".

"I will grandma".she smiled warmly at me,patting my cheek slightly.

"Joseph!". She practically growled at the scrawny looking driver.

Poor guy....

"Big madam". he rushed over to her side grabbing her channel bag and walking to the car. My grandma trailing after him.

She got in the back seat this time, waving at me before Joseph locked the door. I sighed

Feeling nervous all of a sudden.i felt tears brimming my eyes. Rolake noticed my sudden change in mood because she grabbed a hold of my hand and pulled me with her.

"Come on let's go" I followed after her glancing at the empty space where my grandma's car stood before fully turning to keep up with Rolake.

Here goes nothing.
