Chapter 20 - JUNGMAN LIBRARY

(Year 11)

CAMBIAMENTO DI FEDE

(Eye-witness account: SUBMITTED)

Jungman's Library closes at 8 p.m acutely, but on 21st of August 2021, as I passed by the juncture leading towards the Library, a peculiar circumstance abrupted my stroll down the road. Hey, could it be? Jungman Library was accessible hours after its closing time!

In my six months occasional visit to the library, I had never seen the gates unlatched after 8 pm. This spanking new instance made me inquisitive enough to investigate reasons to why the austere measures of Mr. Jung's ancient Library were being taken lightly that night. Partly, my reason to traverse this situation was also to make concession with the librarian for not re-issuing my book on time the past week.

So I went inside with-a-grain-of-salt and belief; but, bizarrely the librarian wasn't in his usual desk; behind the heap of altitudinous books. I vexatiously noticed a strange change to the entrance guards as well; they weren't the same ones I had been greeting for the past 6 months.

Infiltrating the commodious library room further, I ambled past isles and sections of old history books. They were extremely costly, so quaint presumptions crossed my mind, but oddly nothing occurred in the fritz.

Inspecting the library for the last time, I was about to leave when I remembered that news reporters were being paid to discard some news on live broadcasts, so I ran to the newspaper section to check it out, and there I saw a young man in his 20's cautiously stashing the news' articles into his bag.

'How had I missed him on my first lookout?'

I didn't know what he was doing, so I hid behind a clutter of detached ladders, thoroughly examining his moves, as I made my presence unexposed. He was inquisitively searching the newspapers and once a while his eyes would bulge and his lips would tremble and make a 'tsk tsk' sound. He had jet black hair, and wore a green palette tee-shirt. He seemed well off, so I pondered over his actions; for certainly he was aware that he was committing a crime!

Since the ladders were towering and voluminous, my shoulders and back started to pain greatly. I'd move a mere inch and the ladders would produce huge octaves of sound. Predictably, my crushed back and legs tried relaxing, making the ladders come off from their stand and topple over shelves. The humongous clashing sounds alerted the young man, and he took in hand all the remaining newspaper articles that were yet to be examined by him.

I tried chasing after him but one of the ladders I had dodged fortunately, plummeted down and landed on a shelf right next to me.

The latter had now both my legs stumped under them along with a dozen of newspaper parchments on top; adding to the heaviness of this situation more than which was already.

The worse part was that the ladders wouldn't even budge if I kicked them with my freed leg. My useless punts would only result in me breaking my leg. I tried screaming as well, but there was no one to aid me. It wasn't much of a surprise when I fell unconscious.

I still hope the information I've provided assists in finding the culprit responsible and getting punished so.
