Chapter 7 - IT’S BEEN MY DUTY

We kept our heads down, chopping open the fields of corn in front of us. It looks like it's not far from the edge of the river.

"We have to observe before moving on." An invading witch named Theo reminded us.

"I need a time of mobilization. We're trying to contact a fighting team. Hold on as much as you can." Senior Drake voice. We had to keep trying to hide from them.

"Nine o 'clock, someone approaches, moving to the right now!" The voice of a legion of attackers.

But moving to the right would cause a more significant ripple because we had to split this leaflet between the corn plants. But if you don't, we will soon be found.

Quickly they heard our voices. A bullet is whizzing towards us. They were close, and we couldn't use our protective energy because of the pressure of the spell.

"The advance team will help you, and Alexander will lead the team." The sound of Drake's voice lifted me. But now we have to dodge quickly.

There was shouting in Spanish. It looks like they're trying to encircle us between these rifts of corn.

A couple of bullets whizzing by the corn leaves next to me. Forward, towards the river. It's our only way.

"Straight out!" I had to make up my mind because it looked like they had flanked three sides.

We quickly ran into two rows, passing through the aisles of the corn plant. We were out of the pool when the barrage of bullets came up behind us, and all of a sudden, I felt a terrible sting in my left shoulder. I yelled and automatically dropped to the ground while the whistling of bullets kept coming from behind us.

"Alexa, you're hit!" A teammate looked at me and held back pain.

"Keep crawling forward. I'm in pain."

I don't care about the pain I'm suffering. For breath, I crawled forward. My back is wet because of the blood bleeding from my wounds. And because I got shot in the shoulder, every time I moved, the pain was on a recurring loop.

"Stay another 10 yards. Come on, Alexa!" We kept fighting to get out of the braids. My eyes have been blurred, and my head hurts due to enduring immeasurable pain in my shoulder. But I need to stay forward if I don't want to be a gunshot target.

Suddenly the dessert of gunfire stopped, with the sound of a startled cry behind me. Maybe Alexander's team has already arrived. I am relieved that my savior has arrived. The fighting back is still going on.

I lay down on the ground after coming out of this clump of corn. The bullet went right through my trunks' shoulders. Witch Mae quickly pulled me out of power.

"You might get a shot in an artery, blood that comes out an awful lot. Lay still." I heard the words, but I did not have the power to move. Without even being ruled, I would lie still.

"Alexa!" Alexander's voice.

"She got shot in the back, probably hit by an artery, should be sent back to the Mansion." Witch Mae explained my circumstances.

"I'll take him, raise him behind my back, tie him up." Two people immediately helped me to my feet. I draped my unsure hand to his neck.

"Alexa, hold your fief. I'll run fast." Alex has already curled me.

"Two men guard back and side, back to the first meeting point. Olev takes command. Your target is broken all the sound towers." I heard it reigned.

"Okay, we're ready! Hold, close your eyes!" Next, I closed my eyes, feeling the strong winds hit my face, in less than 30 seconds later, I had reached the first meeting point.

"Open the vortex to the Aegis mansion" I finally came home back. And I've been safe with Alexander. I can't remember anything else after that sound, and my consciousness is gone completely.

***

I woke up staring up at the ceiling. Where was I? This is the infirmary at the aegis mansion? I have an iv drip stuck in my arm.

I've changed into the patient's clothes. And my shoulder was bandaged, my hand still felt weird tingling. And it's on crutches, probably because her injury nicked my veins.

I turned to my side. Alexander was burying himself on the couch with a magazine he was reading. Why is he taking care of me?

"Alex."

"You're awake? Is anybody sick?"

He was startled and immediately came up to me and lit the light behind me.

"What time is it?"

"1:00 p.m."

So I slept more than 12 hours. At the same time, I was still half sleepy. And wanting to go back to sleep is probably the result of the drugs.

"I want a drink."

Alexander moved to get me a drink. He touched the button to make that treatment bed more upright. And by helping me drink.

"Is the fight done yet?"

I want to know the results of the last place raid.

"Already, there were about a thousand people freed from the spell. The rest fled."

"What about an undiscovered place?" I continued my question.

"It's been taken care of by Jonathan. You're not allowed to move before three days, and your arteries are injured. Don't think about work, and someone's going to look forward to you."

"Thank you for helping me."

I'm reminded yet to thank you.

"That's been my job."

He didn't see me when he said it, and he was busying himself lowering my bed back. Of course, he sees me as a liability. No more because of our relationship later because of a treaty obligation between the clans. It's just a duty and an obligation.

"I'm sleepy, and I want to sleep again."

"Go to sleep, and I'll take care of you."

"You don't have an obligation to do it, Alex. Some nurses will look after me. Go away"

I close my eyes.

"I'll darken the lights. Go to bed."

He reached out round the lights behind me. Fragrant, his musk perfume, was kissed as his body approached. I don't know why I like the perfume he wears. The fragrance relaxes me and takes me faster into the tranquil dream world.

I felt his finger smoothed out my messy hair on the side of my face and his hand stroking my hair. Next, I drowned comfortably in my sleep.
