Chapter 12 - Rune of Regeneration

Above the plain, a five-meter flat rock floated in the air about fifteen meters above the ground. Silently and under the gusts of wind, the rock then began to rise slowly in the air, gradually reaching an altitude of about twenty, then about thirty meters before stabilizing again.

Around it, a vortex of wind was starting to form with all the air currents enveloping it, slowly starting to unsettle it.

Above the boulder, Isaac sat, his hands and feet trying to grip the surface of the boulder so as not to fall, steadily infusing the rune with mana in an attempt to increase its power and correct its possible design errors.

At first, the rune did its job very well and raised the rock well above the five meters originally planned by Isaac. But past the fifteen-meter mark, the surrounding winds began to pick up.

Gradually, the boulder began to destabilize and sway, then changing its course slightly and forcing Isaac to make modifications to the rune in midair. These changes included new automatic stabilization functions as well as maintaining a crosswind field, countering natural winds causing the rock to sway.

With these modifications, Isaac then continued his experiment and again breathed mana into the rune before climbing again to about fifty meters in altitude.

From there, Isaac didn't even dare to look down and now concentrated on analyzing the distant surroundings and especially the edges of the Garden.

The steep cliffs bordering the latter let appear below the immense green plains dotted with water points. A river was also visible, cutting the plain into two parts. In the distance, snow-capped mountains surrounded by cloud were visible.

His experience with runes and his observations and theories about mana had explained to him rather well how magic in this world worked. On the same principle as computers and computing, magic was a form of energy that simply followed instructions given to it.

Instructions that are given by emotions, sensations, even voice commands probably with some intermediaries, but also models and circuits. Like electric wires guiding electricity, the same principle could be established with mana, giving Isaac many ideas for possible mana supply lines.

In particular with his new discovery: The great mana conductivity of gold.

After several tens of minutes spent observing the sky and the lower plain, Isaac then decided to descend. He began to gradually withdraw energy from the rune, gradually weakening it and proportionally lowering their altitude.

Although the rune was quite powerful, the energy it contained was extremely low compared to the sphere of energy that Isaac had summoned earlier. "No wonder the spell is classified as level unknown. It deserves its title of atomic bomb," Isaac thought, throwing himself off the edge of the rock once the altitude was low enough.

He then activated his levitate spell and slowly descended to the ground before placing his bare feet, feeling the grass blown by the wind as the boulder continued its descent, creating powerful gusts of air all around and blowing the sides of the trees. Isaac's clothes.

Once the rock was on the ground, the rune deactivated, stopping the surrounding winds.

Isaac then looked at the golem and ordered him to go join his colleagues to guard the perimeter before taking a look at the control panel.

As expected, the energy reserves were well recharging, with all runes all at around 12% charge with the reserves at 0%. The recharge seemed to be balanced across all the runes, without prioritizing any one in particular.

"Maybe that's something to correct," Isaac thought as he looked. "Add a feature to prioritize the power of a rune, the system can do it, but why not me?" he wondered as he started to scan the panel a little more.

Much to his dismay, no options were available to prioritize or reorient the energy. Better yet, there was no information on the power source.

"Maybe there is no central source and each rune regenerates automatically?" he said to himself, thinking. It was possible that, like his wind rune, the Garden runes could be self-sufficient, but able to share energy when needed.

Intrigued by this, Isaac then decided to take a closer look at the runes and hit the inspect button on the rune of regeneration. He wasn't sure what it meant. Was it a rune to regenerate mana or repair damage taken by --...

Isaac then turned suddenly to the forest he had destroyed before casting another levitation spell, this time climbing higher and higher and approaching the forest.

He then began to observe the trees and plants, all on the ground, their trunks totally torn by the blades of the spell's wind before finally finding what he was looking for. With his mana vision, Isaac noticed geometric symbols appear at times before disappearing the next.

On a regular basis, these symbols continued to appear occasionally, emitting a small amount of mana and energy and leaving a brief presence of mana. Curious, Isaac then decided to descend and approach the ground so that he could take a look before finally understanding what was going on.

"The Rune of Regeneration is indeed a rune of repair," he concludes, looking at the ground.

In front of him, the mana circuits of the fallen trees were gradually being regenerated, with energy flowing through the energy vessels. Where the grass had been torn and propelled, new plants and blades of grass were already beginning to grow. The torn tree trunks were already rotting and crumbling as fungi and plants sprouted on it.

All around, plant life already seemed to be starting to take its course even though it had been barely an hour since the incident had taken place. "This rune is impressive," he said before suddenly stopping.

In front of him was a huge crater of empty earth. All around you could see the green plants and trees creating quite a contrast.

"Like what I thought."

Isaac activated his levitation spell again and then floated towards the center of the crater, nearly 50 meters in diameter. Inside, there was nothing but loose black earth.

He then came to take a handful of earth, observing his concentration and not surprisingly, the latter was extremely loaded with mana. Looking up at the border, Isaac thought for a moment.

According to him, the rune of regeneration was probably not a rune created by the Administrator but a derivative of his experiences but especially of his presence. With all the experiments that the Administrator had done, he had to be very present in the Garden. If the same prerogatives applied to him, then it would be logical to think that with all of his experiences, the amount of mana produced must have accumulated over the years, perhaps even centuries.

The accumulation would then have created an accumulation of energy which would have become entangled with the earth and create an interconnected network using the roots of plants as a means of circulation. Over the years, the network would then have been reorganized before being able to create a mesh so complex that it would have the same effects as a rune.

A rune created with the roots as vessels and the trees as nodes and with such a level of harmonization and such a large scale that it would be totally self-sufficient.

The plants supplying energy to the rune just by living and the rune redistributing the excess energy, creating a huge ecosystem that regenerates itself when damaged. It was just amazing.

With his explosion, not only had he nearly destroyed the protection rune, but he also had to totally destroy the many plant connections in the crater, cutting off the area of the regeneration rune. Probably after enough time the plants will be able to recreate the rune again and the crater will disappear under a forest.

And with the abundance of mana left over from the blast, the plants present may well have magnificent fruits and special skills. Isaac couldn't wait to see, but there wasn't much he could do right now.

So he decided to go and let Mother Nature do her job, while he was going to go do his and find out more about what he was capable of. Especially with what he had learned, a new experience awaited him.

"I did Wind magic. Let's see how to do other magic."
