Chapter 2 - The Beginning of the Training

He walked into the office, greeting the enlistment officer, and then filling out the papers of his enlistment accordingly.

As he was enlisted, he was told to go to the quartermaster whom would give him his equipment and uniform for training, along with that an identification token, made out of wood and a metal framing.

While this happened, the enlistment officer signed the enlistment document, which also had the supply list he could receive, along with a small pay of 20 pounds.

These were one of the reasons for James enlistment, it was because he would be entitled to 20 shillings which was more than enough for the average soldier.

As he received his shillings into the leather pouch, he would leave the room, as the officer signalled him to leave the room. As James left, he would shut the door behind him, allowing him to move off to the barracks armoury.

As he arrived at the armoury, lanterns were lit all around the walls, as he surveyed it before moving towards the desk where the quartermaster was sitting. The quartermaster was at least 40 year old, but his white hair had made him look like a 60 year old.

James then spoke "Quartermaster Sir, I came to receive my equi-" The quartermaster quickly interrupted James, saying "Just show me the letter boy" James then quickly shut his mouth, as he produced the leather from his pouch, passing it to the quartermaster. The quarter master then looked towards the man, before nodding in self-contentment, he said to James "Wait for me here" As he said those words, he moved to the back-room to grab James Equipment.

For a while James waited, until the Quartermaster came out with a package, as he opened it with his hunting knife he said to James "You are one lucky and unlucky bastard."James felt confused, not knowing what the quartermaster said, and so he kept his mouth shut.

Out from the box, the quartermaster produced a red uniform, yet its material looked different, but James didn't question it, after that the quartermaster then took out a M1819 Hall rifle which was a standard-americas breech loader at the time, yet James was confused on why he didn't get a bakers rifle, yet he still kept his mouth shut, knowing that it would be better if he just stayed silent.

The Quartermaster then produced a Iron Triangle Bayonet, which could be attached to the end of the rifle for melee combat, and could also be taken out from the socket for daily usage too, ranging from cutting meat or skinning animals that were found.

James was then given a hat, with a unique insignia of a monster that looked like the Wendigo, on his uniform was also the patch with the Wendigo's head.

As James picked up these arms and uniform, the Quartermaster then passed James a Pocket Watch, Snow shoes and a pair of boots, that would be his new standardised uniform.

James thanked the Quartermaster before rushing to his assigned dormitory within the fort, producing his token to the dorm guard, whom then led him to his dormitory, as James entered, he saw that the room was empty, which also caused him to wonder, but before that, there was a loud call of all the new enlistees to join a straight line after putting on their uniform, which James then promptly did.

Cladded in red, with a Wendigo patch and hat he quickly fixed his bayonet to his breech-loader and then placing the pocket watch on the top left corner of his uniform, he then patted his hat and wore it, before that he also plugged his knife into the knife holster made out of leather. Once done he promptly rushed to the parade grounds for the training.
