Chapter 107 - 103: The letters

(Nathan POV)

I looked towards the steaming engine in front of me and sighed. "What?" Sis caught on. "Are you that disappointed to go back?" She asked.

Actually, I was not. I wanted to go back. For the first time in my life, I was feeling happy to go to Hogwarts. I had never liked visiting places with a lot of people, but for some reason, it was different this time. I was eager to return to school, and that was worrying. I had no idea if I needed to worry about it or not. It could have been that I was worried over nothing and this was simply simply caused by my inhuman personality. But on the other hand, it could be something new, caused by my powers. I just never had an easy day.

We boarded the train. Thinking back, it had been a strangely quiet summer. I would have liked it that way, but it was too quiet even for my liking. We did not hear from Jacob at all. He would usually visit many times during the winter, but this time, he did not even send a letter. God knows what he was up to. I trained diligently throughout the entire summer, and I did gain quite a bit from it. The rest of the summer was uneventful. And now we were both off to Hogwarts.

I walked through the corridors of the train, looking for any empty compartment. As usual, I was not in the mood to tolerate anyone. Luckily, I found one.

"Let's sit here, sis," I said.

"Come on. Why here?" She was way too extroverted.

"Because... I don't want to sit with anyone else," I spoke, irritated.

"You need to correct your habits," she sighed. "I have heard that you have made some friends. So, why don't you go sit with them instead?" she said.

(WHAT???? What kind of absurd rumor is that? And who the hell came up with this.)

"I have no idea what you are talking about," I said as I fell into the seat. I was exhausted. To save time, I had simply studied for the last three days without any sleep, and now the fatigue was catching up.

"I have heard that you are often seen with Beatris, Hermione, Ron, Augustine, and Annabella," she smirked. "And the way you came to the Chamber of Secrets to save Aug and then Beatris, I would call that friendship." Her lips curled up to her ears, forming an enormous grin. "Something even more than friendship."

(Does she enjoy teasing me that much?) I wondered.

"UGH." I simply ignored her. I knew she was in the mood to roast me, but I was totally not in the mood for it.

"You are so not fun. As usual," she grunted.

(I know I am not fun, and it's not really my fault either, you know.)

And also, there was another reason.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA|

There was an obnoxious laugh resounding in my head. I had forgotten how annoying he was and how much I hated him. In the little time I had spent without him ranting in my mind, I had gotten used to the comfort so much that now it was disturbing to have him speak in my head again.

"You know," Sis spoke again.

"Hmmm." I was in a daze, thinking about many things.

"Your friends..." She started again with the bullshit.

"I don't have friends." I replied.

"They sent you letters." She spoke.

(What?)

I was a little confused.

"Wait.... Who did what?"

"Your friends sent you letters while you were cooped up in the training room."

(WAIT WHAT???)

WAIT WHAT!!!|

"WAIT WHAT??" I screamed. Both internally and externally.

This was simply unbelievable.

THEY SENT YOU LETTERS... AAAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA|

I could almost imagine him rolling on the ground, holding his stomach.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY SENT ME LETTERS? No, wait... WHO sent me letters? Wait, wait, wait, leave that thought... They sent ME letters." Well, obviously, that was the main question I should have been worried about. I mean, who in their right mind would ever want to send a letter to me?

"Hmm, I don't know. These are quite some questions. I don't think I have the brain capacity to answer all of them. Oh, what should I do?" And with that, she made the meanest face she could have ever made.

Oh my god. Someone actually sent YOU a letter. AAAHAHAHAHAHAHA|

CAN YOU JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP.|

I was almost at the borderline of how much a person could get annoyed and horrified. I did not know what was beyond the border, but something told me it was not anything good.

"Okay, okay." I raised my hands in defeat. "Tell me, who sent the letters," I asked Sis.

"Oh, they were mostly from Aug and Anna. Seems as if they have taken quite a liking to you after what you did for them in the Chamber of Secrets," she explained.

(UGH. Of course, they have taken a liking to me. And why would they not? It must be some way Fate came up with to mess with me. Yeah... like let's make the orphan children his friends. He can't say anything to them. They will act as his leash. And he will have to remain in line. Well, screw you, fate. I will play your game. But do remember that victory will be mine.)

I mentally made a middle finger gesture, thinking that it did what it was supposed to do.

"Well, the letters were mostly thank-yous and other formalities. So I replied to most of them."

(Whew, that's a relief. She must have told them I was busy and replied from her side only.)

"I made sure to make you look good." She completed her sentence with a smile.

(AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH)

I screamed. Internally that is.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA OH GOD, MY STOMACH HAHAHAHAHA. MAN, AND HERE I THOUGHT I WAS EVIL.|

He was enjoying his life.

(AAAAAAHHHHHH THAT IS THE WORST POSSIBLE SCENARIO)

"Wha... Wha... Wha... what did you..." I was having a panic attack.

Imagining how sweet and extroverted she was, I could not tell what horrors she might have sent back. "What did you write?" I wheezed.

"Oh, nothing much." She pulled out some parchments from inside her clothes. "You can read them." She threw them towards me.

(SHE WAS KEEPING THE COPIES OF LETTERS SHE SENT THEM ON HER ALL THE TIME.)

I could not believe how far she could go to make my life miserable.

OH GOD. I HAVEN'T LAUGHED THIS MUCH IN AGES. SHE REALLY IS THE DEVIL. EVEN I WOULD NEVER WANT TO FIGHT HER|

With shaking hands, I took those parchments and opened them up. What awaited me was pure horror.

"Oh, I can't wait for the school to reopen."

"I miss the school days."

"I don't mind your company at all."

"We will talk more when we get to Hogwarts again."

"I will teach you more about magic. You know I am good at it."

And many more such horrifying lines passed through my vision before the parchments fell from my shaking hands.

OH BOY HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, SHE REALLY IS A MONSTER. I ALWAYS WONDERED WHY YOU WERE SO SCARED OF HER. BUT MAN, SHE IS MORE THAN EVERYTHING I HAD EVER IMAGINED. HAHAHAHA|

(AAAAAAHHHHHHHH)

I was screaming hysterically inside, but

"w...… w...….. wh..... why?" What came out of my mouth was only a wheeze.

"What do you mean why?" I could see the devil in her smile. "They are your friends. Or are you telling me that you don't want to spend more time with them???" She closed in on me, her eyes looking directly at mine. I could not maintain the focus and simply diverted my gaze.

"Well, these are not all of them. These are only a few," she grinned.

(AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH)

The screaming continued.

"Wait, there are more?" I asked, horror dripping from my voice.

"Yup. These letters are like about one-third."

"One… *GULP*… third?" I looked toward the various parchments on the ground, which were way more than the total number of letters I had sent to anyone in my entire life. And yet these were only a third of the original amount.

(AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH)

I could not stop screaming. This was like my worst nightmare come true. I didn't know what to do, and she said there were more of these horrifying letters. The promises she made to those children... Damn it, sis. She got me good this time. Now I had no way to avoid them. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? JUST WHHHHYYYYYY

"There was one more," she said seemingly out of nowhere.

(AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH NO MORE, PLEASE, NO MORE)

"One… *GULP*… more?" I asked, my voice stuttering.

"Yeah, just one more." And she pulled out another letter from inside her clothes and handed it to me. "This one was from Beatris," she said, this time in a serious tone.

(From Beatris? Why her?)

"What did she say?" I asked while grabbing the letter. "And what did you reply?"

"I did not reply to this one. It was kind of personal. I did not know how to respond, so I just replied that you were busy and would not be available until after summer," she spoke. Her grin, now gone.

(What? Something personal? For me? From her?)

Hesitantly, I opened the letter.

'I don't know why I am even writing this letter. I have no reason. No obligation. We don't even know each other that much to be pen pals. And I believe that for whatever reason you don't even like me. I don't know why, but I can assume that it is not related to me being the girl who lived. I don't know why you hate me so much, but there is something else that I don't know about. And that is why I am writing this letter to you. I hate you so much, yet I don't know. There is something that compels me to... not... hate you. UGH. This is all so irritating. I am having the worst summer of my life right now, and the person I wanted to talk about it to was you. Why is that, Nathaniel Morningstar? I am going crazy over here.

I just...

I am sorry. I just wanted to say that I am sorry for whatever I said that day.

There is something wrong with me. I don't know what, but suddenly I am hearing things I am not supposed to. And sometimes it's like I can see what the other person is thinking. And it's driving me crazy. No one knows what is going on with me. And I have no one else to go to. I did not know what to do. There was nothing in the books. Even Hermione is clueless about it. Ron is always clueless about everything. And I did not know what to do. And then I thought about you. Please help me. I can't stop these voices in my head. I am having bursts of anger and frustration. These voices in my head... They just won't go away. And it's driving me insane.'

(This...)

"Did you read this?" I asked sis.

"No, I did not. Why?" She seemed distracted.

"I think you should read it." I gave her the letter, but she smacked my hand.

"What?" I asked annoyingly.

"Stop." She said as she got up from the seat. "Sit here. And be careful. Pull out your wand." She spoke as she herself also pulled her wand out. "Why are these things here?" She said.

"What things? And where?" I said but before she could reply, the train stopped with a jerk. I fell on the seat.

"What happened? It's not possible that we have reached?" I looked out the window.

"I don't believe them!!!! This is not good. Students are in danger." She opened the door and ran outside.

"WAIT WHERE ARE YOU GOING?" I shouted from behind. "AND WHO ARE HERE?" I asked, but she did not reply. Her reply was not needed because immediately the environment started to freeze. I sat back in my seat after closing the door. In a moment, a hand appeared at the edge of the door. That was when I knew what was happening.

"Dementors," I whispered as I pulled out my wand. "Expecto Patronum." But instead of white, my world world went dark.
