Chapter 4 - Chapter Four: The Plan

Kylo's eyes widened when Poppy gave her the news. A million thoughts instantly flowed through his mind. What did she say? He thought, she's...pregnant? And it's mine? He opened his mouth as if he was about to say something, but nothing came out. Instead he just babbled like an idiot. He dugged his fingers underneath his messy hair and paced nervously back and forth while his mouth is still gaping. Poppy continued watching Kylo frantically pacing back and forth until he finally pulled himself together. He took a deep breath.

"How long have you known?" Kylo inquired.

"Actually, I've just found out today," Poppy answered, "A few days ago I went to my grandmother's house because lately I've been feeling sick. She made me take the wheat and barley test because she suspected that I'm pregnant. Both of the seeds sprouted."

"Are you saying—?" Kylo was too shocked to finish his question.

"Yes...we're having twins," Poppy confirmed, "A boy and a girl."

"I just— Wow!!!" Kylo started to babble and frantically paced back and forth again. Poppy once again watched Kylo but this time she tilted her head.

"Are you...upset?" Poppy asked.

"Actually, this is amazing!" Kylo happily shouted.

"What?" Poppy pulled her eyebrows together.

"We're going to be parents!" Kylo continued to shout, "Don't you find that amazing?" Poppy slapped a hand on her forehead.

"Ugh, don't you get it?!" Poppy angrily yelled while standing quickly up, "This is bad! Everyone in my town including my family were expecting me to save myself until marriage! They have no idea that I had sex, got pregnant or that you're the father! If either of our clans found out that we've conceived a child together, we'll be in grave danger! You'd be killed by either of our people! Our babies will be killed by either of our people! Even I will be killed By either of our people!"

"Oh, yeah, you have a point," Kylo realized, brows raised and pulled together and his ears tucked into his shaggy dark hair.

"I told you it was a bad idea to have sex!" Blamed Poppy, "My mother told me that it only takes one time to get pregnant!"

"Well I didn't know that you humans are as fertile as rabbits!" Kylo defended himself, crossing his arms.

"This is so bad," Poppy whined, "I was supposed to remain abstinent until marriage. I can only imagine how furious my parents will be including father. But I can't imagine what your pack will do. What are we going to do?!"

Kylo watched Poppy dropped to the ground and curled up in a fetal position. He saw tears rolling down her hollow cheeks. He scratched the back of his neck before seating himself next to her.

"So, you don't want the babies?" Kylo sighed.

Poppy looked up with moist widened eyes to find Kylo's head lowered not even trying to look at her. She turned her to her abdomen, rested both her hands on top of it and closed her eyes. After a moment, Kylo's eyes widened and turned his head when he felt her hand touched his.

"It's not that I don't want them," said Poppy, "Although I'm upset how everything turned out after sleeping together, a part of me can't help but feel...happy."

Kylo felt his lips formed into a soft smile and leaned in to give her a gentle kiss on her cheek. Poppy nestled her head under his chin as more tears rolled down her face, a weak but sincere smile formed on her face. They sat there in silence while the sound of croaking frogs continued. The water from the pond glistened from the sunlight. A warm breeze floated through the air. After minutes of crying Poppy finally wiped away the tears and sniffled. She thought for a moment with staring half-lidded eyes until the lights came on upstairs.

"I got it!" Poppy chimed, jumping up from the ground onto her feet with her eyes sparkling and a broad smile, "I'll keep my pregnancy as hidden as possible. Right when I'm about to give birth, I'll sneak out of the village to give birth in a someplace faraway where they wouldn't find me."

"How are you going to do that?" Kylo asked pressing his lips with a slight frown, "Eventually you'll have this big belly that will be a dead giveaway."

"Oh, yeah, good point," Poppy sadly agreed, sitting back down next to Kylo with her smile faltering.

They sat there in silence and Poppy thought even more. Kylo picked up a stone and tossed it into the pond where the frogs were just resting on lily pads, minding their own business. The splash the stone had made caused the frogs to hop away in panic while the ripples in the water forming. Once again, the lights came on upstairs.

"I got it!" Poppy chimed, jumping back up again, "I'll just tell my family that I'm pregnant."

"That's it? You're just going to tell them? How are you going to explain it?" Asked Kylo, twisting his lips, "Tell them you had sex with a werewolf?"

"Actually, I kind of already told them about you," Poppy sheepishly admitted, playing with one of her pigtails.

"What?!" Kylo yelled, his muscles tensed and he clenched his jaw, "But you said—"

"First of all, I only told my friends," Poppy cut him off, "Secondly, I didn't want to tell them about you in the first place, they just keep prying me with questions. And third, I didn't even tell them that you're a werewolf."

Kylo relaxed after Poppy gave her explanation.

"Anyway, I'll make up a story that you, who is a human and a traveler, stopped me and seduced me while I was on my way to visit grandmother a few weeks back." Poppy continued.

"You really think they'll buy it?" Asked Kylo.

"As long as I make it sound convincing," Poppy answered, "Besides I doubt they would waste their time hunting down said human traveler since those guys are always moving from place to place."

"When I'm close to giving birth, I'll tell my family that I'm going to visit grandmother when actually I'm going to find a safe place to give birth. Once I gave birth to the babies, I'll leave it with you and when I return home I'll tell everyone that it died," Poppy continue to explain. "You'll tell your pack that you came upon a dying werewolf mother and she begged to take it in and raise it as your own."

"But who will deliver our babies if we're somewhere where there's no people?" Kylo asked.

"We'll deliver the babies on our own," Poppy answered.

Kylo lowered his head, pressed an index finger to his cheek and propping his chin on the rest of his clenched fingers.

"We can have the babies at my cave," Kylo offered, "So that you wouldn't have to deliver out in the woods."

"That sounds perfect! Now you're thinking!" Poppy commended, clapping her hands.

Kylo smiled at the applaud but then something came into his mind. Poppy noticed him staring at the ground with his lids half closed, a lopsided grimace on his face.

"What is it?" Poppy asked.

"You do realize that even when you do tell your parents that you're pregnant but won't say that I'm father, you would be shamed by your own people for your sin." Kylo pointed out, "Also, aren't you worried that everyone will eventually find out the truth?"

It was Poppy's turn to stare at the ground with half-closed eyes and a grimaced face. He has a point; any woman who conceives a child outside of marriage is a disgrace to her society and her family.

"We'll just have to hope that they never find out. Also I'm fully aware that people will look down on me, but it's better than having you and our babies be dead and to all alone without you," said Poppy, giving a loving smile.

"I love you, Poppyseed," said Kylo, returning with a smile.

"I love you, Wolfie," said Poppy.

Kylo and gave Poppy a passionate kiss. He placed his hand on top of her abdomen and Poppy hers on top of his. They lied down and snuggled among the flowers until the sky turned orange.

"I must get home before everyone starts to wonder where I am," said Poppy, getting up and Kylo followed. He reached down and scooped up a handful of flowers.

"Just tell them you were picking flowers while you were on your way home," Kylo told Poppy, handing her the bouquet.

"I hope this plan works," said Kylo.

"It will, Kylo," Poppy assured him, taking the bouquet from his hands and leaned in to give him a tender kiss on the cheek, "I'll see you later, Wolfie."

"Bye, Poppyseed," said Kylo.

Poppy turned and hurried off to home, leaving Kylo alone in the hodgepodge of colorful flowers as the sun continued to set.
