Chapter 6 - 005| Kevin: I hate this place

Kevin was awakened with the screams of his roommates. It made him sit up and look at how they are below. And to his relief, they are fine.

They are still asleep. But their sleep is actually not peaceful. They are sweating bullets. Lips turning pale in fright.

He did not move immediately and called his system to get a better idea of what is happening.

[They are getting the basic story plot.]

"Do I also have to go through that? If every game world is like this, are you just asking for the players to die before they get to play?" Kevin said rather irritably. He did not want to experience what they are experiencing with how terrible their looks were.

[Worry not host. With me around you will not experience such a thing at all.]

[Though you might get a visual scare. Other than that there is nothing else to be scared of.]

"...geez I'm so thankful" Kevin said sarcastically as he took a look at the current situation of the dorm.

There was nothing in the room that had changed. But he has a nagging feeling that something is different. He trusted his feelings for many reasons, and never once did it have failed him.

So he went down from his bed and inspected the room as much as he could. And after searching for a while, he cannot pinpoint what was wrong at all! This made his hair stand to its tips.

He then remembered that his world is a horror themed world. Meaning there must be something in this room that is not visible to him. Likes ghosts or that being that the dead girl has summoned. The possibilities are just too endless to even think about it.

"Hey system. Is there an extra presence in this room?" Kevin asked nervously.

[…there is indeed one]

"DAMN IT!" Kevin wanted to scream out loud as he is most afraid of ghosts. But whatever the extra presence was, he must not show that he knew of its presence. If somehow it knew, would that mean he will be the first one to die here?

Kevin took a few deep breaths and checked the other players. And to his horror, when he looked back their forms were not seen. Like a bubble or mirage they disappeared like they were just illusions.

Kevin was very scared now. He does not want to stay here any longer. But if he went out of this room, who can guarantee that he'll be okay out there? The ghost or whatever it was might be just waiting for him to open that door and attempt to run. That is how most people died in movies and stories.

He does not like to follow that low-level operation if he could. But really there are really no other options that seem valuable at the moment. He could use the window to go out, but this room is on the fourth floor.

Escaping there is suicide.

"System aren't you a system? Help out your host will you!" Kevin was on the verge of breaking down. He really is scared now. His only wish was to have a girlfriend. But it seems with his current dilemma, he will die before he could ask out someone.

[System is indeed a system]

[I can help host. But will you be fine with it? You had been vocal of not wanting to be associated with me.]

"Now is not the time for dramatics okay!" Kevin roared as he took a nervous step backward. His heart rate accelerated as the moment passed by.

[Worry not host. Nothing bad will happen to you. Just calm your nerves and let this system take care of it.]

"What do—" Kevin was not able to finish his words as he felt faint and weak. He does not like the feeling and tries to fight it off. But this is proven to be useless and made him lose consciousness.

The next time he woke up was back in the classroom. The difference was that the other players were nowhere in sight. And from the looks of it, this is an entirely different place than the classroom he was in when he first arrived here.

Seeing the faces of his 'classmates', Kevin has a nagging feeling that he has once seen them. The feeling was even stronger when he heard them say a familiar name he just knew the morning before.

Kathrine Blake.

The student who has summoned a being to destroy everything that made her life so miserable. The very girl who is now being discussed with great relish by the people Kevin identified as one of the girl's bullies.

Massaging his temple, Kevin has no idea of what he should think about his situation. He does not understand why his system has brought him here. Is it asking for him to be one of the dead students after the death of Kathrine?

Asking help from it really is useless.

Kevin did not bother to call and rant at his system for now. He has to calm down and maintain his rationality. As long as he thinks of fears, he is always blank and unresponsive. So he has to ensure he is still functioning.

Doing so is proven to be hard. The next thing he saw was so morally wrong. And it did not help that he had personally seen the bad state of the girl. He was both furious and sorry for the girl.

He grew up with girls. He taught to respect them and cherish them. Seeing the girl made him very soft hearted.

So he started to help her out in secret. He never outright met her. Opting to give her enough time to sort herself out and take a breather from the torment she is in.

This continued on for days inside whatever this place is. The girl has become visibly better and brighter. Though not too obvious, she was no longer as gloomy as she was in the beginning.

But still he was not able to stop the tragedy from happening. The kitten behind the school that the girl has raised was still killed by the bullies. This made the girl return to her former gloom. Even the breathers he gave no longer had any effect.

He wanted to comfort the girl. But he does not know what will happen if he interferes more than he already has. He could have ask his system. But he is still angry at it, so he have yet to talk with it since he came to this place.

Kevin sighed at how things unfolded. He watched how the girl slowly but surely go to a path of no return. Heralding the horrors and downfall of this school.

"I think I will be the first one to die." Kevin said for the first time to his system.

He is currently alone in his dormitory room. He has some roommates, but due to some weird logic, they went to some pleasure place where they are supposed not to be in. He does not care about them and has no time to care for them.

[You wouldn't die.]

[This is when the newbie benefits are granted. It will ensure that you will not die in your first world. Given your precarious situation back then, I used it without your permission.]

"There is something like that?" Kevin was skeptical about the existence of newbie benefits and what not. Because with how things are, he is sure that he will die after this night.

[This benefits is in packages. But due to you not wanting to know more. I did not introduce it to you. Would you like to hear more about it?]

"Just save it until I am already all safe. It will be useless to know about it when I will die the day next to being able to use it." Kevin said as he cocooned himself in his blanket. The night was significantly colder, but wrapped with his blanked he is feeling hot.

He does not like to sleep like this. But due to his insecurity, he has been sleeping like this since he came here. Scared that he would die suddenly if he just showed a part of himself out of his blanket.

Childish it sounds. It gave him enough comfort and security. Making him more relaxed and at ease sleeping at night.

[As you wish. I will tell you more after you return to reality]

[Good night host]

Kevin did not reply and proceeded to enjoy the last peaceful sleep in his life. Not knowing that at the moment he has entered his dream land, a figure appeared in his room.

Dark hair with the softest sky blue eyes was coming in the direction of his bed. She was expressionless, but her eyes were expressive enough to show how happy she is currently. Lightly she joined Kevin in the bed. Her touch cold as she fiddled upon the young man's exposed skin.

The system noticed it and tried to wake up its host. But there is some sort of power that restricts it from doing so. It even shut it out.
