Chapter 3 - Exposed

"Woah! And here I heard you can take shots from a good hundred meters far." Luca giggled as the bullet passed his head by a hair and lodged itself in the bed-back.

Inessa heard another chuckle from behind her, and she turned away from the blue-hair goon towards the door, only to find Nikolai standing there chuckling. She gave him the finger and turned her attention back to the man, who was annoying the fuck out of her.

"Listen here asshole, I am going to let you heal first and till then, I'll gather all the dirt on you. If I find you even a little suspicious, you can kiss our precious mother earth goodbye." Inessa growled right in Luca's ear.

Luca grinned. He couldn't deny the fact that this woman was turning him on. He found Inessa to be insanely attractive, and he was enjoying riling her up.

"Okay babe." he replied, showing his pearly white teeth.

Inessa clenched her fists, her lips pressing in a thin line. She fired another shot, once again passing the man's head by an inch before storming out of the room. Knowing that if she stayed any longer, she definitely would have killed him, innocent or not.

She felt a presence behind her as she settled herself on the L-shaped sofa in her living room. When she saw Dmitri settling beside her, she leaned her head on his shoulder.

"Get our men on him. Find out everything about this man. And send someone to check whether there are really any eyeballs at the port." she ordered, closing her eyes as she felt the familiar comfort surrounding her.

"Ness, take a rest. I know you were up till late last night. Don't overwork yourself. We'll discuss our next plan when you rest up." Dmitri said, patting her head gently.

But sleep was the last thing on Inessa's mind. She was bothered because they still didn't have any leads on who was behind this. And now this whole situation with that blue-haired asshole. She felt frustrated.

Inessa got up abruptly, deciding that she needed to clear her head before she planned anything. She began walking towards the door, picking up her car keys from the holder on her way.

"Where are you going?" Dmitri asked from behind her.

"I am going to see Mau." her voice faded as she walked out the door.

Dmitri sat there, looking in her direction. Sometimes, he worried about her. Inessa was strong, and he knew that. But she bottled up too much inside her, and he was concerned that it will destroy her from inside. And he definitely didn't want something like that happening to his baby bear.

He was only five years older than Inessa, but for him, Inessa has always been his little sister. And he can't let any harm come to her. With that thought he called their intel team and ordered them to get everything on the weird man that they brought with them.

Inessa drove her car through the guarded estate and entered the one-way road that led to the main city. Their estate was on the outskirts of Rostov-on-Don, Russia. She loved this place; it was not heavily populated and climate was almost always cold, just like how she liked it.

Her car filtered through the mildly crowded street to park in front of the small café. Walking out of her car, she entered the small café. Inessa greeted the man on the counter and ordered a glass of blueberry milkshake. Taking a table at the corner of the café, from where she had a perfect view of the entire street, her eyes searched stealthily for any loose cats following her.

When she didn't find anyone suspicious, she went to the washroom that was blocked for the normal people. Mauris owned a hotel business by the name of Azure Skies. We had hotels not only in Russia, but in most of the countries. When he stepped down from the position of the leader, he also stepped down from the position of CEO. He made Inessa the leader of mafia and the CEO of the hotel business.

After taking up the business, Inessa not only built hotels, but she helped many small cafés expand, and created new ones too. This café, 'The Coffee Corner', was one of the new ones that she built.

In the restricted washroom, she opened up the secret compartment that held a variety of clothes and accessories. Whenever she went to see Mau and her princess, she took extra precautions. She couldn't let any harm come to them.

As she changed into the fresh pair of clothes; a peach top and white rugged jeans. She wondered how Mau and her princess were doing. She never contacted them via phone, afraid that someone might track them. Currently, for the world, Mau was dead. Only Dmitri, Nikolai, and Inessa knew he was not.

She exited the washroom, looking not at all like the woman who just entered. She had not only changed her clothes, but she has put on a blonde wig over her black hair, removed her mask and changed her eye contacts to emerald green.

Inessa felt confident, but still her eyes didn't stop wandering and observing the surrounding area in search of any suspicious activity. Abandoning her car, she walked in the street, in the opposite direction from where she came.

She was excited to meet Mau and her princess. Ever since she discovered the people trailing her, she stopped visiting them, just to be on the safe side. But it's been a month, and she desperately needed them now.

From the café, the safe house in which Mau and her baby stayed, was merely a fifteen minutes walk. The small cottage that looked similar to a small two-storey house was actually a mansion from inside. And she was proud when she completed the design.

Everyone thought it would be a risky move to build a safe house in this crowded street. But she knew it would be their safest bet. She had reasoned, if something were to happen, someone would think twice before taking their weapons out in such a crowded place.

The cottage in front of her filled her with a sense of comfort. She knocked on the door, a specific set of seven knocks accompanied by three consecutive knocks to alert the residents of who was at the door.

After a minute, the door opens, and a man stood there glaring at the woman. No amount of time could make Inessa immune to that penetrating stare. A sheepish smile spread across her face.

"Ma-" she spoke, but was stopped by a ball of hair jumping at her.

Inessa caught the little girl in her arms, kissing her cheeks and hugging her close to her body. Her eyes began tearing up as her little fluff-ball embraced her just as tightly.

"Mommy, where were you? How could you leave me for so long? I missed you so much. And Mau didn't even let me call you." her baby's sweet voice echoed in her ears.

Inessa couldn't stop the tears from falling. She missed her baby, too. Each night she tossed and turned, wondering how her little bean was doing. She visited them every alternate day until a month ago, when all the stalking started.

"I missed you too, my little princess. Mommy is sorry she couldn't come to you sooner. She got caught up in some important business." Inessa spoke as she walked in the house carrying the little girl. Mau followed her inside, closing the heavy metal doors and putting the locks back in place.

Elena Novikov stared at her mother, her small hands caressing her mother's cheeks. Her amber-eyes stared at her mother, glistening with tears.

"Bad guys?" she asked. Inessa smiled and nodded her head. Elena wrapped her arms again around her mother's neck, snuggling deeper in her arms.

"How are you, Mau?" Inessa asked the man, who took a seat beside her on the sofa, fondly looking at the pair.

"Don't think you can get out of the interrogation. I am good and you look okay. Now, tell me what happened?" Inessa sighed at the stern tone of her old man. But she had hidden nothing from him. Ever.

"I found people following me. It's been a month and I haven't been able to get any information until today." Inessa said, staring into Mau's black eyes.

"What did you get?" Mau asked. She felt her daughter's hold getting tighter on her. She had never shied away from telling her daughter the truth. Inessa believed that awareness was crucial for protection.

"I believe it's Ronan."
