Chapter 7 - Feng Family Princess

In the morning the entire Feng family gathered inside of the Autumn breeze's main courtyard in which Feng Wei and Lian Meilin lived. The old and young members of the Feng family, all with similar excitement at meeting the family's newest addition, chattered amongst one another waiting till they could go inside and finally meet the new baby.

Lian Meilin and the new baby had to be in confinement for a month so they could not leave the courtyard until that time so everyone else came to their courtyard instead.

The doors to the main room opened up and a maid stepped out to invite everyone in. Everyone rushed in quietly so as not to disturb the newborn baby.

"Mom!" The 9 year old Feng Mingjun yelled as he ran towards the bed, excited at finally being able to see his mother and his new sibling.

The boys, Feng Yinghao and Feng Mingjun had been restless and anxious at not being able to see their father or mother since yesterday especially after they had witnessed and heard their mother screaming in pain when they were moving her to the room yesterday.

Feng Yinhao, who was 12 could still control himself but Feng Mingjun, who was childish and clingy towards their mother couldn't control himself.

"Mingming. Child, don't run, be careful not to hurt your baby sister!" The Duchess Dong Linghua warned.

Hearing his grandmother's warning Mingjun slowed down but still arrived by his mothers side the fastest.

The one following immediately after to everyone's surprise was the Duke Feng Han. His face was the reflection of utmost composure and strictness of a warrior who has been weathered through the battlefield. The only default in his facade was the glow in his eyes resembling a thief who found gold and the reach of his hands as he looked at the tiny baby laying on the bed, like he was going to abduct the child away at a moment's notice.

The Duchess noticing the Duke's thieving actions could only sigh in exasperation at her husband's childishness. He'd been so excited at really having a granddaughter that he kept tossing and turning all night keeping her awake with him and at the first light of dawn woke up and got dressed in a rush just to be able to see the newborn child.

Although the Duchess showed exasperation at her husband's antics, she herself followed quickly after to see her newborn granddaughter. It had to be known that every member of the Feng Family was equally excited for the newest addition to their family, especially after finding out that the baby was a girl.

When Lian Meilin had been found pregnant a third time, everyone had assumed that it would be a boy as it had always been boys that were born in the Feng family. Even Lian Meilin herself had thought that baby was going to be a boy up until she had actually given birth and realised that she had given birth to a daughter.

Everyone was aware of the Feng family predicament, and how in almost 6 generations the Feng family didn't have a single female as it's descendant and all the relatives consisted of only males.

So any woman marrying into the Feng family all knew that they would never have a daughter in their lives, and they accepted the harsh truth especially since according to the rumors the reason why the Feng family didn't have and females was the result of a curse placed upon them by a scorned women who had lost her love to a beautiful ancestor of the Feng's. The rumor also said that any females born to the Feng's would face calamities and die young.

This resulted in immense fear yet despair in the Feng clan as even though they wanted to have daughters they couldn't and if they did have any then what if the curse came true and the child truly faced misfortune and an early death.

It hadn't been that females hadn't been born in the Feng clan, in the last 100 years there had been three instances where baby girls had been born but out of the three, one had been stillborne like the original owner before Ahxue took over the body, the second died of a heart illness at 12, and the last died from falling into a well and drowning at the age of 3. As a result everyone started believing the curses to be true.

But now the head branch of the Feng Clan actually had a female born to it. So it can be imagined how excited yet nervous everyone was. The child to them was truly their little princess who they wished to spoil and protect but they were fearful at the same time that her fate would be as cruel as all the other females had been before.

"Lin'er, how are you feeling? You should rest more, why did you bother getting up?" The Duchess softly admonished her daughter in law. Yesterday, when Lian Meilin had fallen and gone into such a long labor the duchess had been truly fearful.

The duchess herself didn't have any daughter's so she treated both her daughters in laws as if they were her own children.

"How's our little princess doing now?" The duchess continued questioning.

"Mother, everything is fine. I feel a lot better already and the baby is also sleeping." Lian Meilin replied from her position on the inner part of the bed.

Her two sons along with her three nephews all clambered trying to get up on top of the bed.

"All of you really! Be careful not to hurt the baby!" Her sister in law, Fu Yawen warned the five children then helped them sit near the foot of the bed a little distance away from the child so that they don't accidentally end up hurting the child.

"Jiejie, how are you and the child doing? Was the room too cold at night? Should I send for more blankets?" Fu Yawen rapidly fired questions. She had been excited all night and if her husband hadn't held her back she would have stayed by her sister's side all night.

That stinky husband of hers only knew how to hold her back. They finally have a daughter in the family, so how could she not be excited. She herself had three boys but not a single daughter. Those stinky brats only knew to mess around all day long but a girl was different.

She could already imagine the baby girl growing up and calling her "auntie" with a sweet voice dressed in cute clothes.

"Meimei, everything is fine. The room is warm enough and there are extra blankets in the closet." Lian Meilin replied.

"Ah lin'er, let father hold the baby?" The Duke couldn't resist asking anymore.
