Farmers pay a tax, commoners pay a tax, the wealthy pays a tax and the nobles pay the smallest 'amount' of tax. It wasn't low but it all was dependent on the prosperity of your land. A Baron, two percent and everything above that is risen by two percent and the royals pay nothing because all that money goes to them who eventual give a 'generous' offering to the pope of the church of light.
I am basically but not really an outcast of the royal family, anything below the third prince is considered a duke not to be confused with arch duke which is a higher position. Plus the amount of paper work my teacher is doing for me is enough to make my head hurt.
"Budget report for the past three months Pheron, how are we doing?" I asked while Jeremy served us some apple juice chilled in an fridge type magic tool.
"We have enough to pay the usual tax, 16,000 gold for the first quarter and we'll probably have excess for the fourth and last quarter." She replied while swirling the drink in her hand while securing me in her lap.
Yes I had taken her in as some kind of surrogate mother figure and I kind of liked it. I just needed a mother figure at the moment and she was there. I mean if some old nan see's you cry for the first time because you lost your whole world and couldn't fid a way back wouldn't you feel safe in their hands. Just me? Whatever, plus the mother of this body died some two years ago and there is still some of that emotional baggage left. It's the middle ages anyway who cares about mental health.
"Jeremy you can leave now." I said.
"As you wish mi'lord." He curtly replied as he did a deep bow and briskly went to the door and left.
"Pheron can you put me to bed now?" I said while bobbing my head to the left looking into her sharp eyes. I hoped I looked cute, I dressed real good today wouldn't want it to not pay off.
"Sure." She said while making a big stretch and then picking me up from her lap. She held me in her arms while going out side the door.
"To the left, left again, right, up the stairs, why is your sense of direction so bad Pheron, here it is."
"Goodnight." She said while putting me under the covers. As I dosed off a bit I heard the nicest thing anyone has said in the pass three months. "You may be a villain but your just the cutest little thing, even if you don't smile."
My lips twitched trying to form a smile, eh, I'll have to figure that out and then one day give Pheron a big smile.

"Jeremy your one of the strongest existences on the planet why are you acting like a p*ssy in front of that kid." A certain etiquette teacher said.
"I may be strong Pheron but that kid hadn't done anything bad enough for me to get rid of him." A certain blondy said with a wry smile.
