"Listen up," said a very muscular man with scars, big and small, scattered all over his face.
Because he had on a loose-fitting shirt with a deep neckline, I could see he had a very big one almost from shoulder to shoulder.
I don't know his name yet, but I think he'll be something like my drill instructor for the time I'll be in training.
It was difficult to concentrate, not because of the scars but because he looked strange, he was more muscle than anything else, more than even Nidle, who I thought was at the peak.
If I train too much, will I look like him too?
Hopefully not, I want to get strong but not like that.
The scars are not a problem in my mind, on the contrary, I thought they looked great. I already had some but none of the 'badass' kind which would make me look like a true warrior.
Most of the ones I had were from stupid accidents, falling from somewhere a little too high, or cutting myself a little too deep from something sharp.
Now that I think about it, am I stupid?
All the wounds I have ever received were because I did something that I shouldn't have done or because I wasn't careful enough.
I was sure that the bite I got from one of those wolf-cats, which turned out to be a type of fox called a wolk, back at Loathing should have given me a scar or something that would have taken weeks to heal but it turned out that it was neither.
Though it's not all that strange considering it didn't tear any flesh off.
But I was sure the bite was deep enough to leave something but in the end, the wound healed quickly and didn't leave a mark.
The man was still talking, but I didn't listen for the first half, "knowledge of everything you need, training in all the weapons you will ever have to use."
"What about martial arts?" I asked.
He went over to me, I thought that maybe he wanted to scream at me for talking out of turn but to my surprise he didn't.
Directly in front of me, he explained, "there are multiple things to address here. First, martial arts are no use against most monsters. They're not humanoid enough. Secondly, if you're a trained brawler instead of a learned martial artist, you will win a lot more fights. And when you don't have a weapon nearby the enemy most likely does, monsters have claws and teeth. Running away or a really hard punch is the best thing you can have, understand?"
"Sure."
