It was the day of the admission tests for the Causality Intervention Academy, it had finally come for the people who aimed to be a renowned Intervenor! People from all over the world were anxious for such day to arrive.
Of course, it wouldn't be easy, and the tests wouldn't be merely theorical. Even for those who aimed to be academicals, physical training and dimensional traveling experience were required.
Natan, the long-haired ginger, being 18, arrived the door of the famous academy, with only a really, really big backpack on his back, carrying some clothes, notes, books and equipments. The excitement flowed through him! He was nervous, although he felt ready.
As he went through the door... The main hall was... empty? "... Did I arrive too late? Or am I too early?" Natan said to himself as he looked around, but it was really empty, and silent, very silent. "Did I get the correct date? Is it even today?" Natan said as he reached for his phone and looked at the day, and compared to the document.
"Yeah... It's today... Did I get the time wrong?" He did. He arrived, well, 12 hours earlier then expected. "Oh... It was 5 A.M... But who the fuck does such an event in the evening? Every admission test I did started early!" Natan said, angry to the time stated, although he was dumb enough to think that 5 A.M. was tok early for anything.
"Well, what should I do then? Why is this even empty? This is a fucking academy, where are the normal students? Is everyone asleep?" Natan said as he walked through the hall. He was probably the only one with so much energy at 5 A.M., to be pissed about being so wrong and to think it's normal to wake so early.
"Am I the only dude who got this wrong? There's no way I did that!" Natan said as he tried to cope with the fact he messed up big time and walked around the hall in circles. As he talked to himself, the time passed, enough for the door he came through to open again, as someone came in.
Someone around his age walked in, a black man, taller than him, entered with a backpack on his back, just like Natan. He looked confused, although less than Natan, and probably calmer than him. "Dude, I thought was late, why are you the only here?" He asked to Natan, who was staring at him.
"I'm not that dumb, at least." Natan thought to himself before answering the man, as he looked at him. "You got the time confused too? Amen... You are now stuck with me for the next 11 hours or so. You better have brought food."
The man frowned his eyebrowns, until realisation came in, making him facepalm himself. "Fuck... Both of us thought it was 5 A.M? Dude, we are too fucking dumb for this shit."
"Don't even tell me... But, hey, what's your name? Since we are going to be together for sometime, I'm Natan." He said as he extended his arm to his new friend. Well, at least Natan considered him his friend, as quick as that.
"I'm Magnus." He grabed his hand and went in to a hug, slapping his back with his free hand. Magnus was also a man who made friends quickly, so they were a great match.
"Dude, wanna explore the Academy? They are all probably sleeping, we can spy the place." Natan said, without even second thoughts, to his newly made friend. Natan was about to give up doing something to get out of bored, although he was there for no more than 30 minutes or so.
Now that Magnus showed up, Natan could, at least, have someone with him while he did things, so if they got caught, it wouldn't be so embarrassing. "... That should've been the first thing to say to me." Magnus said as he threw his backback on a corner and walked to the door, and Natan went together, but he didn't leave his things behind.
They quickly reached the door, and as Magnus was about to open the door, Natan stopped him. "They have security, of course, just going in won't work." He said as he reached for his backpack, getting two white things, that looked like little comunication devices.
"Why do we even need those? We are going to stick together." Magnus said, as he looked at it. Natan was already putting it on the side of his head. "It does look like a microphone of something, but it's a presence deviation device, cameras can't see nor hear us, and any movement detector won't go off. But, people can see us, obviously."
Magnus stood there, looking dumbfounded for sometime, until he decided to put him on. "Should I be able to do things like that to join the academy too? If yes, I'm just quitting this." Natan laughed, as he went through the door, noticing something was wrong.
"Strange, we didn't get the warning that we passed through a movement detector... They deactivated it? But it's so early..." Natan said to Magnus as they started walking, both of them looked around.
"Maybe they were doing some work late at night and they didn't activate it, or they are doing some maintance right now... Anyway, we should take care then." Magnus said as he followed Natan through the building.
Just from entering, it had an unknwon atmosphere for both of them, totally white, yet extremely clean, corridors, many rooms with all kind of devices instaled, expensive components. Truly, it was any scientist's paradise.
"Hey... What about we go after the portals?" Magnus said to Natan, as the ginger looked back at him as if Magnus had discovered the fire right in front of his eyes. "I should've thought of that! Fuck, I was too absorved in looking through the doors!" Natan said louder than normal, he was now excited thinking about seeing the portals.
"It should be around here, right? This is the place we would go around with the rest, I guess." Magnus said as he started to look through the transparent doors of one side of the corridor, as Natan instinctively went to the other side. "Yeah, probably... And not too far, just enough to amaze us, but not to bore us."
The hunt after the portals began, as they looked throigh every door, sometimes even putting the face against the glass to see everything inside, but to no avail. It was that they though, until they reached a reinforced door, you couldn't see inside, of course, and the ID technology to enter it was an way higher grade than any other they've ever seen.
"I hope it's the door to enter the portals, and not to their nuclear armory. I don't want to get in more trouble than we already are if we get caught." Natan said as he analyzed the lock by the side of the door. "Can we even get in? I'm not really good with analysing things just by batting an eye, but this looks top tier just by, well, batting an eye."
"... I could try, but it would take hou-" Natan was about to finish it, as he looked that, well, the door wasn't locked. "It's open already, help me pull this door." He said, starting to pull it. Magnus went to help as soon as he heard it.
"Open? Who's the dumbass that forgets to lock up top tier technology? And probably top secret too." Magnus said as they opened it. Like going through the gates of heaven, the two saw many portals, installed in line, from the start until the very finish, lined up.
And, in the very first portal, a scientist with deep dark circles under his eyes, with eyes crossed and glasses almost falling of his face was sitting. "... He looks like a total wimp." Natan said outloud, although it was supposed to only to remain as a thought.
"He really does... He probably is smart enoigh to compensate for being so frail-looking" Magnus said as he looked at the scientist with crossed arms. Natan looked at him as well. "Dude... Flex your arms by his side, I'm gonna take a pic." The ginger said as he reached for his phone.
Magnus didn't hesitate and stood by the scientists side, squatting down and flexing his arms. Natan quickly took the picture and started laughing, calling Magnus and showing him. "You look like a monster close to him!" Natan said, as both of them laughed.
The scientist was in a deep slumber, he didn't even flinch listening to the laughter as he slept. "Lets see the portals around." Natan said as he put his phone away and started walking through the many portals, seeing the devices and how they manipulated it.
"This is amazing! They can just generate an artificial reality and send it to the portal, without interfering in the current Causality, they can just generate it. Like analysing a rift, but they manipulate it." Natan said as he looked through the devices.
Magnus was a bit more careful, but he looked through it, and listened to the details he missed. He quickly grasped that Natan was an absolute nerd with Causality technology.
But, their curiosity was about to be cut, as the wimpy scientist slumber was about to be broken.
