Bright and early the next morning I was waiting for Sayuri, at the front gate of my house. The sun was just peeking up and there weren't that many people out. I decided to get up early from now on. because I can get way more done in the day and it feels like my day doesn't just fly by. Right when I'm about to call Sayuri, she comes running up to me.
"Good morning Haru-Chan," Sayuri calls to me.
"Morning Sayuri-Chan" I call back.
" You can just call me Yuri, where you waiting awhile" Yuri asks as we start walking side by side.
"No I've only been waiting for a few minutes and besides it's nice in the morning" I say smiling. As we walked to school we discussed the upcoming school events and how exciting this school year is going to be. When we got to school, there was hardly anybody there except for a few student council members.
"Wow I've never seen a school this empty before" I say, looking around.
"Well it is pretty early" Yuri states, taking a seat at a desk in the back. I take a seat beside her. As we sat and finished any homework we didn't finish last night our other classmates started showing up.
"Good morning Haru and Sayuri," Akio says, taking a seat in front of us.
"Morning Akio" We both reply. The next few hours was the usual as always.
"RINGGGGGGG" The school bell rings throughout the school.
"Where do you want to have lunch today" Yuri asks me, getting up from her desk and grabbing her bag.
"Oooh, how about outside today. It's nice outside and we can sit underneath the trees" I reply getting up and grabbing my bag too.
"That sounds nice," Yuri says as we make our way through the now crowded halls. Outside was hot, but under the shade of the trees it was perfect. Laying down my sweater on the shady grass, I sit down and start digging through my school bag looking for my lunch. Yuri sits beside me.
"So what are you doing this weekend?" Yuri asks.
"Nothing really" I reply, taking a bite of my curry rice.
"Well then I know this amazing karaoke place not that far from here" Yuri says excitedly. "Do you want to go this Friday after school?"
'Yeah that sounds fun, but I have to ask my mom" I reply.
"So it's settled then, this Friday" Yuri says smiling.
Under the warm sun you could hear the heat bugs as I walked to the other school building for the council meeting.
"Hello Haru" Yuma says as I enter our club room.
"Hey Yuma," I say, setting down my school bag at a desk. "Has anyone else arrived yet?"
"Yeah, but Ami and Kaito are getting some paper from the supply closet downstairs and Yuri is grabbing some things the student council left for us to go over" Yuma says. "Oh, talking about that I need you to help me send out these papers." In Yuma's hands was a massive stack of papers.
"Ok" I say, taking a stack off of the heavy pile. Making our way back downstairs, we headed to the main office where we had to mail these off from. "So what are these papers for anyways?" I ask.
"Well there for the other schools in this district" Yuma states. On top of my pile of papers I see one stamped for the private school. It was a really nice school that the one percent can only get into. That reminded me of why I picked the school I'm at, this school had a cheap tuition. It may be a bit worn down, but I like it here. My family is pretty poor, with my dad gone and my mom working all hours. It's hard to get by. I have an older sister, but she's not around much. She goes to a different school then me.
"Well here we are," Yuma says, pushing open the office door. After dropping off the papers we head back upstairs. Ami, Kaito, and Yuri were waiting. After we were done I walked home with Yuri.
"See you tomorrow Haru," Yuri says.
"See you tomorrow Yuri" I replied, walking up my home's walkway. I slip off my shoes at the door.
"Mom, I'm home" I yelled, but there was no reply. Walking upstairs I hear my mom crying. "MOM" I yell dropping my bag on the stairs. Running to her cries. I stop at my sister's bedroom. I gasp at the sight. It was empty and my mom was crying on the floor with a letter in her hands. "Mom what happened?" I ask.
"Your sister left" She cried. "What are we going to do?"
That night my mom fell sick from overworking. As the week went by she wasn't getting any better, so I had to turn down Yuri's invite to this weekends plans.
"I'm sorry Yuri I can't come tonight, my moms sick" I say on the phone.
"It's okay we can always go another week" Yuri says. "Well see you this Monday."
The next few weeks my mom didn't get any better, soon enough she lost her job.
"Haru can you stay with a friend while I'm away, it will only be for a short while" My mom says.
"Yeah, I'll be fine" I say giving her a kiss on her head. Since my mom was so sick we decided she would stay with her sister's family, so she could be properly taken care of while I stayed with a friend until she was better. Instead of bothering Yuri since she lived with her dad in a small apartment, I was going to get a really cheap apartment and get a job to pay for it.
"Home sweet home" I say as I drop my bags at the door of my new apartment. It was a one bedroom apartment with a small bathroom and a tiny balcony. It was on the fifth floor and it was really dirty. I could hear police sirens in the distance. The good thing was that it was close enough to my school so I didn't have to transfer and I could just take the train. So pulling up my sleeves I set to work cleaning my new apartment. I knew it was going to be hard, but with a little bit of work, I can make it happen.
