Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: First day of Highschool

The sun was shining in my eyes brightly. Turning over in my bed I sneak a peek at my alarm clock, it was 8:00.

"8;00, OH MY GOD I'M GOING TO BE LATE" I yell jolting up. Getting tangled in my blankets, I fall to the floor in a heap. Quickly getting up and scramble around for my things. I dash down stairs two at a time.

"Haru I made breakfast" My mom calls from the kitchen.

"Sorry mom school starts in twenty minutes" I yell to her frantically. "Do you know where my shoes are?"

"Next to the door, Haru, your sister left half an hour ago, so why didn't you get up to your alarm clock" My mom scolds.

"Because it didn't go off and why didn't you wake me?" I say, juggling my school bag while trying to put on shoes.

"Because you're old enough to know when to get up, I love you, have a good day at school" Mom says, giving me a kiss on the cheek before a leave. I couldn't believe I was going to be late on my first day of high school. Reaching my school gates I take my crumpled school schedule out of my skirt pocket. Homeroom 2-5. Out of breath I slid open my classroom door, almost all of the class was already there. So I get stuck sitting in the back. Most of the kids in my class I don't know and only a few I recognize from middle school. I glance out the window in my classroom. The trees were still bright green and the heat of the sun still felt like summer. It was still morning, but I knew it would be hot today. Setting my head down on my desk, I hear someone sit down on the desk beside me.

"Good morning Haru," Akio says, beside me. Looking up I see Akio with his black neatly combed hair and silver wire framed glasses. Akio was head of the student council and a heartthrob in middle school.

"Good morning Akio" I say sitting up. I can see the girls in the front of the class scowl at me, which made me smile more. I wasn't interested in Akio, but it was fun to see his fan group fuss over everything.

"Have you decided what extra activity you are doing this year?" Akio asks me.

"Well I'm not doing track this year, so I decided on helping with the yearbook this year and help plan school events" I replied. "What about you?"

"I'm sticking with the student council as always, actually I just got back from the first meeting of the year" Akio says, but before we can discuss anything else the teacher walks in. It was the same first class as every year. Going over the school rules and class schedules. Thankfully since it was the first day of school the school work was mostly review. I was dozing off again when the lunch bell rang. Lifting up my head I grab my school bag and find my lunch. My mom made me curry rice and teriyaki chicken with some fruits and vegetables on the side. When lunch break was done, I headed to the girls locker room to change before gym. I was one of the first one's there besides another girl. She was tall with long blonde hair and her skirt was way longer than normal. She looked more like a gang member than a school girl. She notices me.

"Hello Haru" She says. I did know her from middle school last year, but we didn't talk much.

"Hi Sayuri, how's your first day going," I say.

"Pretty good, I can't find a good club to join yet most of them are sports and I'm not really into that stuff though, do you have any suggestions?" Sayuri replies.

"Well this year I'm not really doing a club, but instead I'm helping with school events and the yearbook" I replied.

"That sounds cool," Sayuri says.

"If you want to join, after school I'm going so we could go together" I say.

That was the first of our friendship. After a long day of school I headed upstairs to one of the empty classrooms where our yearbook club was supposed to meet. I even talked Sayuri into joining. Sayuri age 15 was a very sweet person once you got to know her, but to people she didn't like that was a whole other story. The yearbook club only had a few members. There was Ami Yoshida age 15, who was a really sweet easy going person. Yuma Kimura, age 16, who was the president of the club, and Kaito Takahashi age 15, who was outgoing and always up to something.

"So for this year's yearbook and events we all got to work hard, to keep this school posted on the latest games and events" Yuma tells us. "It's a fun job to do, but remember where in a short time period so who's ready to get started."

On a big write board we started writing down ideas on the upcoming days. We have to work with the student council, because we are basically a part of the student council, but we do more of the planning. Sayuri seemed to like it and was glad I asked her to join.

As I walked home, the hot sun started to set and made shadows appear. I couldn't believe it was my first day of high school. Getting home I slipped off my shoes and socks. The cool floor was nice to the touch after a long day of walking.

"Mom, I'm home" I say, coming into the kitchen to get a drink of water.

"What took you so long?" My mom asks.

"Sorry the student council was really busy since it was the first day" I replied. Going upstairs to my room, I dump out my school bag and get to work on any homework I had. Sayuri called after dinner. We both decided on walking to school together tomorrow since she lived nearby. After taking a warm bath, and getting around for bed I was exhausted. Today went better than I suspected and I couldn't wait to see what laid ahead tomorrow.
