Chereads / An Orphan and A King / Chapter 6 - The mask and the boy

Chapter 6 - The mask and the boy

3 POV

Techno immediately turns and takes out his sword, pointing it at the shadowy figure's neck. The figure comes out of the darkness only to reveal a smiley mask, tilting his head as if he's confused. "Is this how you treat an old friend, Techno? And I thought you changed." Techno huffed and slowly put down his sword, scowling at the masked man. He had a green hoodie over his head, bits of blonde hair peeking from above. Black ripped jeans lined his legs and he wore

black boots on his feet. And of course, he had that stupid smiling mask that haunts Techno and his family to this day.

"What do you want, Dream?" Techno asks after a small silence between the two, putting his sword away at the same time. "I just want to know why you burnt that village over there, it's not like you to do arson for no reason" Dream responded after a moment, his smiley mask glaring daggers into Techno's soul, "So who'd you do it for?"

"Just a bad trade that's all" Techno responds nonchalantly, keeping his face straight so as to not cause suspicion."A bad trade that led to a massacre of hundreds of innocent people?"

Techno scowls at his last two words, They hurt a fucking child, they were in no way innocent. Techno just turns around to face the burning village, shrugging "Never underestimate the blood god."

Techno grabs Carl's leash and walks away, releasing a breath he didn't realize he was holding in. Dreams just stares at him as he walks away, turning back to the village after his silhouette disappeared into the forest. "Well, that's one less problem to worry about….now let's go find the body." He says, laughing maniacally while taking out an old picture of Tubbo and Ranboo holding a ginger haired baby.

Phil POV

I can tell the kid got bored of playing with Techno's coat and crown, as she hurried over to me and put it on the table that is next to me. As quickly as she came, she left, going to the corner of the room and wrapping her arms around herself. While looking at her, I noticed that her clothes were pretty torn and burnt, so I decided to ask her the obvious; "Would you like to have some new clothes?"

Not to my surprise, she nods excitedly and smiles.

I smile back and go into my house to check if I still kept my son's baby clothes, only to find them all in a hidden chest underneath my bed. Techno and Tommy would kill me if they found out I still kept their clothes and baby pictures, so I opted to hide them so they'd never find out.

After looking for a while, I found one of Techno's old outfits that might suit the kid, so I closed the chest and headed back to Techno's house. I enter the room we were in and find her looking at Edward, smiling until it turns to confusion, noticing Edward speaking and the kid nodding and smiling at him. Does she understand him? But that can't be, there's only one person I know who can do that-

"Here you go" I say, interrupting my thoughts and quickly handing over the clothes.

She beams and grabs the clothes gently, Poor thing probably never got new ones in a while.

Little girl POV

I grabbed the clothes from the man and looked up at him. What a strange man, I wonder who he is and why he's so… nice. I don't trust him… not yet anyways. I want Techie. My expression saddened thinking about Techno, but I quickly got over it as the man patted my head and I melted into the touch. I opened my eyes half way and observed the man again. He has bright blonde hair that almost reaches his shoulders, and on top sits a green and white striped bucket hat. He also wears a black robe with a samurai type suit on the inside, a green that is as dark as the trees in the forest. On his feet were black sandals, and looking at his face, I saw eyes as blue as the ocean. I think I can trust him for now, I think to myself, holding the clothes tight and nodding at him as a sign that I'm ok.

Third POV

After getting confirmation that the girl was ok, she looked around, seemingly trying to find the bathroom.

"Little one, the bathroom is downstairs" Phil informed her, pointing towards the ladder that heads there. She nodded a quick thanks and quickly climbed down the ladders. Once she arrived at her destination, she was about to change until she heard some noises coming from beneath her. She looked around confused, noticing a trap door towards the left end side of the room. She slowly goes over to it and takes a deep breath, preparing for the worst. She quickly opens it and peeks in a bit, not noticing the specks of blonde hair that passed by. She goes down the ladder to investigate, only to find a boy with dirty blonde hair huddling in a corner. His hair reached to his shoulders, like Phil's, she notices, and wears a green bandana around his neck. He is also wearing a torn red and white shirt, in the same condition as the girl's old clothes, with light brown pants and white and red shoes. In the corner of the room he is holding stacks of gapples and golden carrots, putting some into a makeshift chest that she assumes he made himself.

The girl walks a little closer to him but stops as the floor creaks and scares the boy, making him flinch and turn towards her. He notices the girl and his fear stricken face turns into confusion, but the little girl doesn't notice as she inspects him closely. The boy seems to have had bright blue eyes before, maybe like Phils, but now they are a dark grey, no emotion in them whatsoever. On his face he has a bunch of old scars, one down his eye, a big one on his forehead, and a scar that leads seemingly down his neck, though the bandana is covering it so she couldn't see it all that well. As she finishes her inspection, she notices that the boy had pulled out a netherite axe and was pointed at her neck. The little girl jumps and backs away, tears starting to go down her eyes, red marks appearing under them. She was in so much pain that she began to scream, quickly trying to wipe the tears away. The boy startles and immediately puts away his axe to help the poor child.

"Hey hey it's ok, I won't hurt you" the boy assures, putting his hands over her eyes to stop the pain her tears bring her.

The girl opens her eyes and sees the softness in his features, calming down a bit.

"See I'm a good guy" he gently smiles at her and wipes the last tear away from her face, the girl looking back and nodding her head with a small smile.

Suddenly, a boom is heard from above and the trapdoor opens quickly, revealing a worried Phil.

"Kid?! What's going on?!" He says while jumping down the ladder, only to see the girl with red puffy eyes in front of a familiar blonde- haired boy.

"TOMMY WHAT DID YOU DO??" He yelled after seeing the tear streaks on the little girl's face, smacking him on the back of the head gently so as to not hurt his son.

"WHAT THE HELL PHIL" Tommy yells, swatting Phil's hand away.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'WHAT THE HELL', WHY IS SHE CRYING?" Phil yells back, noticing the flinch that comes from his son and sighs, softening up so as to not give him any unwanted flashbacks.

"I might have pointed an axe at her…." Tommy admits, taking out a gapple and giving it to the girl as a way of saying sorry. The girl smiles brightly and takes the apple, eating it slowly to cherish each bite.

"Why would you do that? She's a child! Like you! And is that Techno's gapples?!" Philza scolds gently, grabbing the remaining gapples from Tommy's hand.

Tommy was going to protest but stopped when he noticed something wrong.

"Hey kid, you alright?"

Little girl's POV

Everything is getting quieter and I can hear my own thoughts again. I look up at the blonde- haired boy, who I assume his name is Tommy, and the blonde- haired man, Phil. Tommy has asked me a question but I couldn't respond, as everything was getting dizzy around me. A ringing started to fill my ears and I covered them, trying to stop the unbearable sound. I feel hands on my shoulders and slowly look up to see grey eyes staring back worriedly, black spots dancing around my eyes. He picks me up and holds me to his chest, his mouth moving but no words coming out of them. I grab his shirt tightly and close my eyes, letting the darkness consume my vision.
