Lana cleaned every corner of her house in anticipation of her parents though they were a little later than usual she knew they would surely come. No one could understand her feelings and all felt her parents were cruel , she had also thought that way. Until she met her at the park.
Lana watched as the girl in front of her stared at the ground like it was talking to her. The girl wore a pale pink princess gown with faded grey shoes and hole ridden socks. Her hair was bundled up in a messy pony tail the little girl hand gently touched the ground. Lana wondered what she was doing and went to ask her the girl who was definitely the same age as her.
" Hi "
"Hello " the girl softly answered
" what are you doing "
" Talking to the ground " No matter how hard she thought of the statement it sounded crazy. Lana's little head bent down to look at the ground may be she missed something.
A moment of silence rained when Lana was sure there was nothing on the ground she turned her head towards the girl and asked.
"There is nothing here so why are you talking to the ground "
"That's because the stars to far away"
Her statement caused a lot of confusion to the little Lana as her brows scrunched up.
" Hmm.... but why are you talking to the stars if it's to far away. ".
" Well my mummy and daddy have gone to the stars and are not coming back so I use the ground to speak to them. "
The girl gave Lana a big bright smile like what she said was not depressing. Though in her eyes she saw how the girl watched all the parents pick up their kids. A familiar gaze of longing one that mirrored hers was there. A void in both their eyes.
She remained quiet and the girl also never spoke.
"I miss them , They should have taken me with them. " The girl uttered those words quietly that it could have been missed but Lana heard it.
They both watched has the last parent picked up their kid. It was getting late and Lana knew better than staying out at night. Just as she was about to ask her to come with her. A middle age lady approached with nicely packed blonde hair and a neat office wear.
Her heels clicked to the ground " Arie let's go back "
"Bye , My name is Arie and that's the orphanage mistress so I have to hurry " She hurriedly said as she ran towards her.
Lana immediately got up and screamed " My name is Lana nice to meet you. "
Arie just waved back but never looked back once.
She sat back down and kept thinking of what she said lost she waited for her nanny to come and pick her up. Though her parents were not around they did not just leave her to devices. They constantly monitored her and called her a lot.
The nanny she was expecting gently carried her off the ground home , she kind of felt embarrassed. On getting home she forgot about her embarrassments and began asking her nanny questions.
" If the parents go to the stars and are in the ground are they dead "
" Yes ". she replied solemnly; it was not a good question.
She knew if she did not speak to their parents in a week she would cry so she could never and never wished to understand her pain.
This was cause Arie had no parents but at least Lana had hers she just barely saw them. She knew they cared for her, they usually arrive home every month trying their best to take care of her.
' Rinnnggg rnggg ' Her cellphone rang up. They were only few people that could call her, staring at the screen she saw an unknown caller. She brought the phone right in front of her face and stared at it. In a while the phone screen went black before lighting up again with the same unknown number.
She moved her thumb to the call symbol intending to answer it , a quick scene flashed through her head. In the era of the New. A girl was hypnotized over a phone call. The girl was rescued cause she was under the radar, she was of course one of the lucky specials.
This kind of caused people to be wary of unknown numbers.
They always dominated everything, they were considered to be out hope for the next generation. Though Lana felt their generation was perfectly fine , No Earth destruction , no massive change in atmosphere , no mutations of animals that already happened. The world had already evolved though she kind of expected new alien life form discovery.
More than 300 years and humans still have not spoken to aliens or they could have and she was not aware. Lana gently stroke her chin her eyes puzzled like she could see beyond the cup of coffee right in front of her. Gently leaning back she kept staring at the steam , one would think it spoke to her.
Her class mates expected her to have all the juicy hidden information about the government secret plans cause her parents are scientist. They began secluding her from activities just to get her to talk. Fortunately she did not give out any thing and they had to give up all.
Just to be fair how could they expect her to tell government secrets such things are dangerous though she actually knew absolutely nothing about it in the first place.
Her beloved parents try to keep her away from their work life. That was the main reason the spent time away from eachother.
Lana sighed loudly as she picked up the cup of coffee and brought it to her mouth. It was kind of cool just the way she liked it.
Savouring the coffee taste she gently twirls the cup. It was extremely pale brown due to the excessive milk she had added, 2 cubes of sugar was perfect for a mug.
A nice rhythmic knock sounded at the door. Lana's hand shook has she spilled the coffee in a hurry to get to the door. Pulling the door wild open their stood the two people she had been waiting for, they were both dressed in black pants , a white shirt and blue crop top. She just stood there looking at them with a big smile.
They gently pulled her away from the door and embraced her. Right in front of her where are parents, she had been expecting them since they left last time and here they are hugging her.
The family of three stood there uninterrupted for what seemed to last beyond time.
