Maddie yawned as she opened her eyes, she blinked, rubbing her eyes as she smile. She had such a good night's sleep, she felt so energetic, and she had woken up exceedingly happy.
Maddie didn't know why she was just so happy this morning, and she could not care less. She was just focused on enjoying this nice day today.
Maddie yawned once more as she got out of bed, walked into the bathroom. She looked at her reflection in the bathroom mirror as she smiled at herself and brushed her teeth, enjoying her rare moments of jocundity. Little did she know that as soon as she stepped out of the bathroom there was an extremely annoyed person waiting for her.
Maddie whistled a happy tune that drawled on her lips when she walked out of the bathroom only to be met with the sight of an extremely angry looking Annie that was sitting up in her bed, her eyes narrowed and intense, she looked as if she had been waiting for her all night.
"Good morning Annie...?" said Maddie as she continued on smiling.
"Yikes, you look terrible, did you sleep alright?" asked Maddie as she shook her head. Annie did truly look terrible, her eyes looked tired and red as if she had not slept last night and her hair was everywhere, messy and tangled as if she had been mangled by a bear.
"No, I didn't Maddison." said Annie as the intensity of her glare increased. Maddie should have been quick to pick up that something was wrong when Annie addressed her by her full name, but she was in such a good mood that she paid no attention to her friend's sudden formality.
"Gosh then sorry for you, I spelt splendidly, like a baby, which is weird considering I rarely sleep so well, anyway." said Maddie as she smiled, walking to her closet.
Maddie was thinking about how weird it was that the one day she slept so well, Annie had slept terribly, it was hilarious in a way. She could not think of a reason why Annie didn't get enough rest, she was usually one that slept fairly well.
"That's because your peace is dependent on mischief and being mean." said Annie in a low tone that was still audible that was if Maddie was paying attention, which she was not.
"What did you say?" asked Maddie as she turned to look at Annie with a smile after picking out her outfit for the day.
"I said that's because your peace is dependent on mischief and being mean!" said Annie as this time her voice was louder, just in case Maddie claimed that she did not hear her.
"Excuse me?" asked Maddie in shock as her eyes widened, she was shocked by what Annie said, and she could see from the way Annie was looking that she was not joking one bit.
"Gosh Annie, I know you didn't sleep well, but you don't have to be like that, come on let's go have breakfast and you will feel better, and if you still don't then you can still come back and take a nap." said Maddie as Annie laughed.
It wasn't her usual cheery, lighthearted laugh, rather it was one of mockery, one laugh that was silently saying: 'I can't believe this'.
"Are you going to keep on pretending as if you don't know what you did." said Annie in irritation as Maddie looked at her, genuinely confused, she had no idea what Annie was talking about. She was going through all the memories of yesterday and yet she couldn't remember.
Annie scoffed as she was even more pissed off, that clearly fake expression of ignorance on Maddie's face was simply irritating.
"You threw your book on my head last night!! It really hurt you know!!" said Annie as she got out of bed and all the emotions she had bottled up from last night started to show.
As soon as Maddie heard her words a look of realization dawned on her face as she silently sighed in relief. For a moment there she was worried. She had thought that she did something extremely bad to Annie without her knowledge, but it was just something silly.
"Oh that." said Maddie in utter disregard, making Annie feel even more angry that it was clearly not something important to her.
"Yes that!! Why would you go as far as sending your book to land on my head? That wasn't nice at all." said Annie as she frowned.
Maddie could see that Annie was really pissed about this, which in her opinion she didn't get. Maybe she would have been less agitated if she didn't have all night to brood over the little incident.
"Well forgive me for not thinking about important things, what do you want me to say? I'm sorry, well there, I'm sorry." said Maddie as Annie's frown deepened, she hated it when Maddie got like this, when she had utter disregard for the feelings of other people, it made her feel as if they weren't really friends, as if she didn't really know Maddie in the first place.
"That's all you can say? It's clear that you don't really mean it." said Annie as Maddie frowned. Annie was really taking this seriously.
Maddie was about to genuinely apologized when it hit her... why did she do that in the first place? Well it was because Annie started it first with this whole insisting that she study thing. Why did she have to be the first to apologize when Annie hadn't apologized to her yet?
Why was she the one that had to care? She was not going to apologize first, no, never.
"I don't get why you're so upset when you clearly started it first." replied Maddie as Annie looked shocked, for a moment she had thought that Maddie was sincerely apologize, but she could not have been more wrong.
"Why did you have to put the books under my pillow in the first place?" asked Maddie.
"You're even lucky that I only sent one to fall on your head and not the two of them!" replied Maddie as Annie gasped.
She could not believe what she had just heard. Annie's eyes were filled with disbelief, she was not even sure if she was looking at her friend anymore.
"Is that what you're supposed to say instead of I'm sorry, I didn't mean to??!!" asked Annie.
"Well I'm sorry that I don't meet your expectations Annie! It was unfair that you think you can just force me into something I don't want to do just because you think it's right!" said Maddie, she did not know that things would go this far, she only wanted to tell Annie that she wasn't going to apologize, but now they were arguing.
"And I'm sorry that I forgot how selfish you can be!" said Annie.
"I'll have you know that when I put those books under your pillow it was just a meaningless prank, but you responded with violence!" said Annie as Maddie chuckled coldly.
"If you think that one useless book dropping on your head is violence, then darling, you don't know real violence." replied Maddie coldly as Annie glared at her, she wasn't going to back down.
"Oh and I suppose that you want to show me what 'real' violence is now?" asked Annie in sarcasm.
"No, I won't subject your delicate self to that, all I'm saying is that I'm not apologizing until you do." said Maddie as Annie scoffed, her eyes drifting to the dressing table where the book was innocently lying.
"How's that for an apology?" asked Annie as without warning the book dashed from the table aiming straight for Maddie's face as Maddie didn't even flinch as the book stopped abruptly and fell down on the ground.
"You really are petty." said Maddie as she shook her head.
"Guess I learn from the best." replied Annie as Maddie scoffed.
"I'm done with this nonsense, I'm not going to apologize until you do." said Annie with a snicker as she walked into the bathroom and the door closed with a loud thud.
Maddie groaned as she felt like punching something or someone. She woke up in such a good mood today only for it to be ruined? Why couldn't she have simply nice days just like everyone else.
In the midst of her complaining Maddie didn't notice the book lifting itself from the floor as it hovered above her hair and dropped as it hit her and she shrieked.
"Ouch." she said as she rubbed her head... that really did hurt; but still she felt like Annie was being a baby about the whole thing.
It was clear that she was ready to be petty and there was no way she would apologize first. If Annie wanted to play then they would play.
"Nice one, how petty miss petty." shouted Maddie.
"Get ready for more pettiness, I'm not going to stop until you apologize!" replied Annie from inside the bathroom as Maddie chuckled and shook her head.
She picked up the book and placed it back on the dressing table. So much for a wonderful day. She did not care, she was never one to back down and she wouldn't start now.
