The next day.
"You see, I told you do rock your short hair" said Maddie as she smiled and she winked at Annie.
"Oh haha, very funny Maddie" said Annie as she laughed, but she did have to admit that Maddie was right, she had washed her hair this morning and it took way less time than it usually did when she had her long hair.
"I am always right" said Maddie as she smiled.
"Sorry to say, but I doubt that statement" said Annie as she laughed and she shook her head.
"*Knock* *Knock*" came the knock on the door of Annie and Maddie's room.
"Come in" said Maddie as she smiled.
"Hey" said Matt as he smiled and he walked into Annie and Maddie's room.
"Hi Matt" said Annie as she looked at Matt and she smiled.
"Hey Matt" said Maddie as she smiled.
"What are you doing here??" asked Annie as she smiled, she was surprised that Matt was here, she thought that they were going to meet in the library as usual.
"Well Maddie said that I should come over" said Matt as both he and Annie turned to look at Maddie.
"Ahh well yes yes, I did ask him to come here" said Maddie as she smiled and she stood up and she walked over to Matt.
"Let's go" said Maddie as she smiled.
"Where are you guys going?" asked Annie in confusion, since when did Maddie and Matt start having secret meetings and going placed secretly together??
"Well Matt here, needs to help me convince Professor Sapiens to help me with something" said Maddie as she turned to look at Annie as she smiled.
"Oookay??" asked Annie as she was still confused, this was so sudden and random, but she turned to look at Matt and he looked like everything was fine, so then that meant everything was truly fine.
"Yes, so we will see you later" said Maddie as she smiled and she pulled Matt's hand as they walked out the door.
"See you??" asked Annie as the door closed and she was still very confused, just what was going on?
"Why didn't you just tell her that you want us to learn the old tongue?" asked Matt as Maddie let go of his hand and they walked down the hall.
"Well because I want it to be a surprise" said Maddie as she smiled.
"And also because if I tell Annie my main reason for doing this, she will try to talk me out of it, and say that I don't need to do something just because of someone else, and she will give me an entire lecture and all, and I won't end up doing what I want" said Maddie.
"You know that she will be right though?" asked Matt.
"Yes I do, which is why I didn't tell her" said Maddie as she smiled.
"Besides, I am actually interested in this old tongue language thing" said Maddie as she laughed.
"Yes, that's cool, but I don't understand why you have to drag me along with you?" asked Matt as he shook his head.
"Well Matt that is simple, I don't want to learn alone, and besides you are my ticket to Professor Sapiens agreeing to teach me" said Maddie as she smiled.
"So you are just using me as a ticket?" asked Matt as he shook his head.
"Well yes Matty boy, I am, if you put it that way" said Maddie as she laughed.
"I can't believe this" said Matt as he facepalmed himself.
"Oh come on Matt, it will be fun for both of us" said Maddie as she smiled.
"I doubt that" said Matt as Maddie knocked on the door of Sapiens office.
"Come in" came Sapiens voice from inside the room as the door opened by itself and Maddie and Matt walked in.
"Good Morning Professor Sapiens" said Maddie as she smiled.
"Good Morning Maddie" said Sapiens as he smiled, hew as surprised, he did not expect to see Maddie here today.
"Please sit" said Sapiens as he smiled and Maddie and Matt sat down across him at his desk.
"So what brings you both here this morning?" asked Sapiens as he smiled.
"Well Professor Sapiens, we want to ask you something" said Maddie as she smiled.
"We?" asked Sapiens as he smiled.
"Yes we, me and Matt" said Maddie as she looked at Matt and she smiled.
"Is that so Matt?" asked Sapiens as he looked at Matt who was very quiet.
"Ahh yes Grandfather" said Matt as he smiled, he could not back down now, or else Maddie would be angry with him.
"Well then, do tell" said Sapiens as he found this interesting.
"Professor Sapiens, we were wondering if you could teach us the old tongue" said Maddie as she smiled.
"Wow… well this is a surprise" said Sapiens as he smiled, of all the things he could guess that they wanted to ask him, this was not even on the list at all, this was such a surprise.
"Why the sudden interest with the old tongue?" said Sapiens as he just had to ask.
"Grandfather, Prince Oliver was here yesterday, and well he was speaking about the old tongue, and now Maddie…" said Matt as he turned to look at Maddie and she smiled at him, but it was not a sweet smile at all, but rather a warning one.
"Maddie and I want to learn the old tongue as well" said Matt as he smiled.
"Well this is very interesting" said Professor Sapiens as he smiled, he had never thought that Matt would be interested in such things, it would seem that Prince Oliver coming here more often was a good thing.
"So Professor Sapiens, will you teach us?" asked Maddie as she smiled, she knew that Professor Sapiens would not say no if it was Matt who asked him.
"Well of course I will" said Sapiens as he smiled.
"It is very nice to see you young children interested in our Realm rich history" said Sapiens as he smiled and Maddie smiled as Matt scoffed internally, Maddie wasn't interested in any rich history, she just wanted to be better than Ollie.
"Yes Professor Sapiens, yes, it is true, our Realm has so much history" said Maddie as she smiled she was trying to butter up Professor Sapiens.
"Well then, to start you both off, I will give you each these books" said Professor Sapiens as some books pulled themselves out of the bookshelves in his office and they floated to Maddie and Matt and they took them.
"These are basics on the old tongue, they transcribe the symbols and shapes and their meanings" said Professor Sapiens as he smiled.
"Thank you Professor Sapiens" said Maddie as she smiled.
"Thank you Grandfather" said Matt as he smiled.
"You are both welcome" said Sapiens as he smiled, he was happy, he had so much knowledge but he never got to share it with anyone, so it made him very happy that the young ones were interested in knowing more as well, so all his knowledge would not go to waste.
And Maddie smiled as she looked at Matt with an expression that read "I told you so"

"So how did asking Professor Sapiens for whatever you needed go?" asked Annie as she smiled and she looked at Maddie and Matt as they walked back into the room.
"Well it went well" said Maddie as she smiled very happily, she got what she wanted.
"That's good" said Annie as she smiled.
"Anyway, Mira came here earlier, and she told me that Aunt Stella wants to see all of us" said Annie.
"Ooh what for?" asked Maddie as she was surprised.
"I don't know, she did not say, but by the look of it, it sounds like it's something very important" said Annie as she seemed to be thinking, maybe it was more bad news, because If it was, she was just going to be so tired, even more tired than she already was, everything was going bad, and then from bad to worse, and then from worse to something even more terrible.
"Then let's go, we won't know for sure till we find out" said Matt as he spoke up, he could tell that Annie was not feeling too good, he could see it in her eyes.
"Yes, Matt is right Annie, we won't know until we find out" said Maddie as she turned to look at Annie as she smiled, she could also tell that Annie did not look too good, in fact she looked very tired, so she wanted to lighten the mood and make Annie feel a bit better.
"Well then, you both are right, let's go" said Annie as she forced a smile, she could only hope that it was not any more bad news, or else, she would not be able to take it anymore, she would not.
