"Okay, I'm done" said Annie as she sighed and she closed the book as she shook her head, sure she loved reading, but she was not even past halfway in the book, it just kept on going back and forth in circles, which she found annoying, but she could not just skip any chapter or line, in case it was important.
"What's wrong?" asked Maddie as she looked up from her phone and she looked at Annie and Matt also looked up to look at Annie.
"Well nothing, to be honest… the book is boring" said Annie as she laughed and she sighed, it felt like they were getting nowhere with this at all.
"Well I am done reading, I will continue on later today" said Annie as she sighed, she was tired.
"Okay then" said Matt as he smiled.
"I wonder what Curtis is doing" said Annie as she spoke out loud, he had been gone for a while now, and sure he had said that he was going to speak to Aunt Stella, but he should have been done with that already, she just hated how she could no longer communicate with him telepathically.
"Speaking of Curtis, what does he know about the revive spell?" asked Maddie as she looked at Annie.
"Well he says it is irreversible as well" said Annie as she replied.
"But doesn't he have an idea of what can be done, come on he's Curtis, he knows everything" said Maddie as she laughed and Annie laughed as well.
"Well in this case… he doesn't… which is why I am trying to find out something" said Annie as she smiled.
"Don't worry Annie, you will, and we will help you as well, right Matt?" asked Maddie as she smiled and she turned to look at Matt.
"Right" said Matt as he smiled.
"Thank you, you guys" said Annie as she smiled, she could not have wished for better friends.
"You know what, let's take a break, we can go back to searching tomorrow" said Maddie as she smiled.
"I agree with that" said Annie as she smiled.
"If you agree then I agree as well" said Matt as he smiled.
"Okay then, let's go" said Maddie as she stood up and she stretched as she smiled.
"You act as if you were the one doing all the work" said Matt as he laughed and he shook his head.
"Well no… of course not, but looking this pretty at all times, is not easy at all, don't be fooled by me" said Maddie as she smiled.
"Oh give me a break Maddie" said Matt as he scoffed and he shook his head as Annie laughed, Maddie was just too much sometimes.
…
"Aunt Stella, you called for me?" asked Annie as she walked into Stella's office.
"Yes my dear please sit" said Stella as she smiled at Annie and she gestured that she sit and Annie did as she sat across Curtis.
"My dear…" said Stella as she paused.
"I and Curtis have been talking… and well there is something that we both need to tell you" said Stella as she looked at Curtis and then she turned to look at Annie.
"Okay??" said Annie as she felt like from the way that they were both behaving, it was not good news at all.
"My dear, we do not want you to be worried" said Stella as she smiled sadly as Curtis looked at Annie.
"Okay" said Annie as by now, everything that she had been told was bad news, so why not go and add more bad news to her plate as well, she just felt so… so tired of everything.
"My dear… Curtis and I were discussing and we realized something that is very delicate" said Stella as she looked at Curtis, he was just sitting there, being quiet and saying nothing at all, she was not going to be the one to always give Annie bad news, he was her guardian and he should do his job, and not pin everything on her.
As if Curtis knew what Stella was thinking, he quickly spoke up.
"Annie, Stella said something that made us realize that you loosing your powers is something much more deeper than we imagined…" said Curtis as he looked at Annie.
"What do you mean?" asked Annie as she looked at Stella and Curtis, she was just so confused, how was her loosing her powers so much more deeper? What could be worse than her being powerless?? She really doubted that anything could top that.
"My dear, the thing is…" said Stella as she paused.
"Magic no longer works on you" said Stella as she sighed, it was better for them to tell her now rather than later.
"What?" asked Annie in shock, she could not understand, just what did they mean by that?? How could magic not work on her.
"My dear… what happened was that when you woke up and I came to meet you, I tried to transfer some of my energy to you, so I could give you some strength, but something happened… the spell did not work, or rather your body rejected the magic, I could feel the energy returning back to me" said Stella as she explained.
"Okay, so magic doesn't work on me?" asked Annie as she was trying to understand this calmly.
"Annie, I think that since your magic is gone, your body is rejecting any sort of magic passing through it" said Curtis as he seemed to be thinking, he wished that he knew what to do, but the truth was that he didn't, this was the first time anything like this happened.
"Alright… so not only am I powerless, but I am also anti-magic now?" asked Annie as she looked at Curtis.
"Yes, something like that my dear" said Stella as she replied and Annie turned to look at her.
"Okay…" said Annie as she was trying to take this in.
"Then isn't that a good thing?" asked Annie.
"I mean, if magic doesn't work on me, then spells don't work on me as well, and I won't be able to get hurt" said Annie as she looked at Stella.
"Not exactly Annie" said Curtis as he looked at her.
"My dear, we live in a realm full of magic, so it is hard to know, maybe it is only good spells that don't work on you, and well bad spells might" said Stella as she sighed, it would be stupid of them to just come to a conclusion just like that with no basis at all.
"Okay" said Annie.
"Then why don't we test it?" asked Annie.
"Aunt Stella you can cast a low dose poison spell on me and then we can see if it affects me" said Annie.
"Oh my dear, no, no, sorry I cannot do that" said Stella as she shook her head.
"It is just too dangerous, the results are uncertain" said Stella.
"Even if the poison may be little, it is still poison, and it will still affect you, it might just take a long time to do the inevitable, and I do not think that I would be able to save you" said Stella.
"I see" said Annie as she sighed and she understood what Stella was trying to say, so basically, she was a walking danger to herself.
"Yes my dear" said Stella.
"So what do I do?" asked Annie as she did not know what to do at all.
"My dear, you just need to be very careful, very, very careful, don't go anywhere in the Palace where you are sure that you will not be safe" said Stella.
"And most of all, be careful when you see someone casting a spell, just as a brief caution" said Stella, that was all they could do right now, it was like they were stuck in a stalemate, they could not do anything to move on at all, to tell the truth Stella was losing hope… she really was, it seemed like they hit a brick wall one after the next.
"Okay Aunt Stella" said Annie as she nodded her head, was it wrong to say that she was tired of herself?? That just one singular action of hers caused all these consequences, even though she only meant well, it was not fair, it just was not fair at all.
"Alright my dear… but please do not be worried, I am sure we will find a way to fix this… we will" said Stella as she smiled and she tried to assure Annie that everything would be alright.
"Yes Aunt Stella… we will" said Annie as she smiled, even though on the inside she felt completely horrible, it was like nothing was going right for her, everything was going wrong, she wondered what she had done to deserve all this??
"Oh well I knew that" said Maddie as she laughed, she took one look at that book and she knew it was going to be boring right away.
"
