"No Maddie you don't need to do anything, just to prove a point to me" said Annie
"It's fine if you don't want to open it" said Annie as she realized that she did not know as much as she thought she did about Maddie, and especially in the aspect of Maddie's relationship with her parents.
Annie always thought that Maddie was initially mean because that was just how she was, but after being with Maddie for such a long time, and seeing more like hearing) only a glimpse of her childhood was like, Annie realized that Maddie became mean to be strong.
"Who said that I need to prove a point??" asked Maddie as she raised an eyebrow at Annie
"If I wanted to prove a point, I would have done it already" she said
"Okay okay" said Annie
"But anyway, you still don't need to open it, except you want to" said Annie
"Okay I hear you, and now I want to" said Maddie
"You asking me about being curious has made me be curious now" said Maddie as she laughed.
"I don't think that's how it works" said Annie as she laughed.
"Oh trust me that's how it works" said Maddie as she laughed
"You are so infectious... in a good way" said Maddie
"Wait infectious?? how in a good way??" asked Annie
"I mean, your sweetness, your kindness, your niceness, and mostly your goodness is infectious" said Maddie as she smiled.
"Why do you think that I am good?? it's because you gave me a chance, and before I knew it, your goodness infected me like a bug" said Maddie as she laughed.
"Aww Maddie" said Annie as she smiled.
"I am happy to be infectious... in a good way" she said as she laughed.
"So am I" said Maddie as she laughed.
"So you are really going to open it?" asked Annie
"Yes I am" said Maddie as she looked down at the yellow envelope.
"And what do you mean me?? We are going to open this thing" said Maddie as she looked up and laughed at Annie.
"After all you were the one that pushed me to open it in the first place" said Maddie
"Oh, I thought that you would want to open it alone since it's very personal" said Annie
"Haha no, you are my friend, I can do anything in front of you" said Maddie as she laughed.
"Besides, I think it's best to have witnesses, just in case this is a trap" said Maddie
"Because quite frankly, I don't trust any one of my family member, you know for obvious reasons" said Maddie
"Haha yes I know" said Annie
"Yes, anyway let's get this over with" said Maddie as she tore open the envelope.
"Huh, this is strange" said Maddie as she looked inside the envelope.
"What's wrong?" asked Annie
"There is absolutely nothing in here" said Maddie as she was confused.
"Wait what how is that possible??" asked Annie as she was shocked.
"Well didn't you feel something in there earlier??" asked Annie
"I did!!!" said Maddie as she was extremely confused.
"I felt like a letter of some sort, now it's gone, and empty like nothing was there, and I never opened the letter before" said Maddie as it was turning her head upside down trying to find out what happened.
"Umm this is creepy" said Annie as she was weirded out, she also believed that Maddie felt something in there earlier and now it was gone like it never existed.
Maddie turned the envelope upside down and she shook it, as if trying to see if something dropped out, and to both their surprise, something did drop out of it.
"Huh???? something just dropped" said Annie as she saw like a small book drop on Maddie's bed.
"You know what, you are right" said Maddie as she was shocked too.
"Maybe it's some sort of spell for protection or something" said Maddie as something told her to keep on shaking and something pink and shiny dropped from the envelope.
"What is this??" asked Maddie as she stopped shaking and she picked up the pink, shiny thing, it looked like it was a crystal.
"I don't know but to me it looks like a crystal" said Annie
"Hmm it does" said Maddie as she dropped it back on her bed and she kept on shaking but nothing else came out.
"I think that's all of it" said Maddie as she put down the envelope that she was sure was empty now.
"Wow" said Annie as this was the first time she had ever seen something so weird about a seemingly, ordinary looking envelope.
"Hmm okay so a book, and a crystal of some sort" said Maddie as she held the book in her hand and the crystal in her other hand, as she showed Annie.
"Wait I don't think that's an ordinary book" said Annie as she took a closer look.
"I think it's a diary" she said
"A dairy?? as in my mom's diary??" asked Maddie and Annie nodded and Maddie opened the book.
"Well that's something new, I never knew that she even had a diary
said Maddie.
"Yes, you are right it's her diary alright, she wrote her name on the first page" said Maddie
"Well are you going to read it??" asked Annie
"Because it seems that she left it to you so you could read it" said Annie
"Nope, I am not even a tiny bit curious on what she wrote in here" said Maddie as she put the diary under her bed.
"Whether or not she left it for me to read, I do not want to know about her life, it was her life after all, and not mine, she already made her decisions" said Maddie rather coldly.
"Okay" said Annie as she could sense Maddie's coldness.
"What I am really curious about is this crystal thingy?? what exactly does it do?? or is it just for jewelry??" asked Maddie as she examined the pink crystal.
"Well I also have no idea, this is the first time that I have seen such a thing" said Annie
"Then who exactly knows what this is??" asked Maddie
"I have no idea, maybe Aunt Stella or Aunt Luc knows what it is??" said Annie
"Aww no fair, it's so late and they must all be sleeping right now, which means we cannot actually find out what the heck this thing is until tomorrow, and that feels way too far for me" said Maddie
"Ooooh yes I got it" said Annie
"What do you got?" asked Maddie
"We can just ask Curtis" said Annie
"He doesn't sleep anyway, so we are not disturbing him at all" said Annie as she smiled.
"Oooh nice thinking" said Maddie
"Call him now" said Maddie
"I'm doing it" said Annie
"Hey Curtis, are you there?? can you hear me??" asked Annie as she spoke out loud.
"Yes Annie what is it??" replied Curtis almost instantly.
"Oooh good, Curtis can you come over to me and Maddie's room right now?" asked Annie
"Why?? is something the matter?" asked Curtis
"Yes, I mean no, not exactly, but it's something very urgent, can you please come??" asked Annie.
"Okay Annie, I will be there soon" said Curtis
"Okay Thank you Curtis, see you soon" said Annie as she smiled.
"So he's coming?" asked Maddie
"Yes, he said that he would be here soon" said Annie
"Great" said Maddie
A few minutes later.
"Hi Curtis" said Annie as she opened the door.
"Oooh hi Matt" said Annie as she saw Matt behind Curtis
"Oh Hi Matt, I didn't know that you were coming" said Maddie
"He wasn't supposed to, but he followed me over here like a stray dog" said Curtis as he looked annoyed.
"Hey I am no stray dog" said Matt
"Anyway, what was so important that you called me over here??" asked Curtis
"Ahh well Curtis, I opened the package I got from my mother" said Maddie
"You know that she died right??" asked Maddie very insensitively.
"Yes, I am aware of that" said Curtis
"Good anyway, she's dead, and she left an envelope for me, and this crystal thingy was part of what was inside the envelope" said Maddie as she gave the crystal to Curtis.
"Me and Annie didn't know what it was, we were hoping that you would know" said Maddie
"It looks so shiny and pink" said Matt
"I know right" said Maddie
"So Curtis do you know what it is?" asked Annie
"Well that's easy, this is a crystal shard" said Curtis
"A crystal what?" asked Maddie
"A crystal shard" repeated Curtis once again.
"It's used to record messages" he said
"More specifically video like messages that could range from 2D to 3D images" said Curtis
"You could say that it is the equivalent to a human camera, except for the fact that the person who records on it has imprinted a part of themselves on the crystal" said Curtis
