"What is going on here?" came the voice of a woman.
"Mom??" said Matt in surprise.
"Aunt Luc??" said Annie and Maddie in a chorus, they were also shocked.
"What's wrong Matt?" asked Lucinda as she walked to Matt's side.
"Mom?? we didn't know that you were coming" said Matt
"Well your father and I just arrived" said Lucinda as she eyed Matt closely.
"Now tell me what is wrong" said Lucinda
"It's nothing mom really" said Matt.
"Oh really??" said Lucinda with a raised eyebrow.
"Maddie, Annie, is there really nothing going on?" asked Lucinda as she looked like she was going to force the truth out of them no matter what.
Maddie looked away, she had never seen Lucinda so.. so upset, it seemed that today was the day that she saw different sides of her friend's mothers.
"Umm it's not nothing Aunt Luc" said Annie as she cracked, she was not going to lie in the first place, but Lucinda's gaze just made it more intense than it should have.
Maddie looked at Curtis who wasn't the slightest bit worried, he even looked like he was enjoying some sort of show, she decided to copy him, and not let this faze her, besides she wasn't the one who told Matt to lie to his mother, and Annie should have just stayed out of it and remained neutral, but oh well, what's done is already done.
"Hey Curtis, are you not going to do something about this" said Maddie as she leisurely popped into Curtis's head.
"No I will watch this play out, we never told Matt not to tell him Mother the truth" said Curtis as he was not in anyway surprised on why Maddie was in his head in the first place.
"What about poor Annie??" asked Maddie
"She will be fine, Lucinda will not blame her, she is just surprised that's all, and Matt acting like nothing is wrong is worrying her" said Curtis
"So??" said Maddie
"So we sit, watch and stay quiet and don't interrupt" said Curtis
"Okay then" said Maddie as she turned to look at Lucinda.
"So tell me what is going on" said Lucinda rather calmly, as she knew that if her beloved son would not tell her what was wrong, her beloved Annie would.
"Well it all started this morning, after breakfast, me and Maddie were looking for Matt since we had not seen him all day, and no one knew where he was" said Annie
"Maddie casted a location spell, and we found out that for some odd reason he was out of the camp, and we went to go get him, and when we saw him, his eyes were colourless, he was pale, and he was acting like a mindless, mind controlled zombie" said
"It was like he was enchanted by the piped piper" said Annie
"The piped whoer??" asked Lucinda
"Exactly my question!" said Maddie as she just had to chip in, no one knew this piped piper as Annie said.
Lucinda gave Maddie a warning look, as she had interrupted their discussion.
"Sorry" said Maddie as she laughed sheepishly, she should have listened to Curtis and just stayed quiet and observed, but she was excited to know that she wasn't the only one that did not know about this piped piper.
"Continue on Annie" said Lucinda
"As I was saying, Matt was acting like he was enchanted, no he was enchanted, big time, because we tried hitting him, calling his name and all and he still did not snap out of it, and after a very long process we finally broke the enchantment and then he entered into a deep sleep, and he only woke up now, and he doesn't remember a single thing of what happened after breakfast this morning." said Annie as she finished her long explanation.
"I see" said Lucinda
"Yes Aunt Luc" said Annie
"I didn't want to tell you mom, because I did not want to worry you, I still do not remember anything" said Matt
"Well it's okay Matt, it's not your fault, it's one of the effects" said Lucinda
"Effects of what?" asked Annie
"Well Annie you were right about him being enchanted" said Lucinda.
"Vampires can be easily enchanted either with a spell, or a special high frequency that witches cannot hear" said Lucinda
"The reason Matt was affected is because of his vampire side, so he was easily enchanted by whoever wanted to control him" said Lucinda
"One of the effects of enchantment, is that the person who was enchanted has no recollection whatsoever about what happened before they were enchanted, they also experience terrible headaches, and their vision gets blurry" said Lucinda.
"Well I only have two of those effects, my eye sight is perfectly fine" said Matt
"That must be because of your witch side" said Lucinda.
"The question is who would want to control Matt?" asked Annie
"It's only one person Annie" said Maddie
"It's Azazel who else" said Maddie as she noticed that the drama was finally over now.
"But what does he want with Matt?? doesn't he only want to destroy me?" asked Annie
"It's clear that he now has a interest in Matt" said Maddie
"But why?" asked Maddie
"The question is what happened recently that made him take interest in Matt" said Curtis as everyone looked at him.
"And that is??" asked Annie
"His plan to reduce our numbers was thwarted because Matt's mixed blood was the antidote for witched brew" said Curtis
"Ahh yes, how could I have forgotten that" said Maddie
"So he decided that Matt being on our side is horrible for his future plans, and that's why he wanted to capture him" said Maddie
"Okay that makes sense, but if that is true, why didn't Azazel just kill me, since it's certain that he must have sent the mud that tried to eat me" said Annie.
"Then maybe it's not Azazel but someone else" said Maddie
"Who then??" asked Annie as her brain was aching from trying to figure this whole thing out.
"Look girls we do not need to trouble ourselves right now, what is done is done, and we need to move past that and be on guard" said Curtis.
"Curtis is right" said Lucinda.
"For now Matt, I need to teach you how to clear your mind so you are not easily controlled" said Lucinda.
"Is that possible?" asked Matt
"Of course it is, in fact it should be easier for you since you are part witch" said Lucinda, she remembered how difficult it was for her to teach Lucas to clear his mind, it took him a long time to learn.
"Well okay then, this cannot happen again" said Matt as what happened bruised his ego, he always thought of himself as the strongest, and yet he was easily mind controlled.
"That's the spirit Matt" said Maddie.
"Lucinda??" asked Mrs. Grey as she walked into Matt's room.
"Lisa" said Lucinda as she turned and smiled.
"You didn't tell us that you were coming" said Lisa
"Ahh yes, well we only arrived" said Lucinda
"Wow, that must have been why Stella said that I should call everyone for dinner" said Lisa
"Well then we should not keep Stella waiting" said Lucinda.
"Matt do you still have a headache?" asked Lucinda as she turned to look at Matt.
"No mom it's gone now" said Matt
"Okay then, let's go eat dinner" said Lucinda as she smiled.
...
Dinner was held in the cafeteria, with Stella, and all the adults, along with Curtis, Matt, Annie, and Maddie.
Curtis was just here because Annie dragged him to come over, even though he did not need to eat, he just sat and ate small bites quietly.
It was mostly the adults talking and catching up, while the children listened.
Annie kept her head down, she was feeling uncomfortable with the way Lucas was looking at her yet again.
It seemed like the guy derived fun from watching her being nervous, if not for the fact that he Matt's father she would have thought he was weird, she remembered the first time she met him, he looked at her just like he was looking at her now.
"What's wrong Annie?" said Maddie as she talked in Annie's mind.
"Don't you see the way that Matt's dad is looking at me, he's weird" said Annie
"Oooh haha, well he seems to be enjoying talking, maybe you are just overthinking" said Maddie
"No Maddie, trust me I am not overreacting, he always looks at me like that, he's weird" said Annie
"Well then I say don't pay attention to it, he maybe just wants to feel scared" said Maddie
"Maybe you are right" said Annie as she sighed.
Meanwhile in the outside world, Jacob who was sitting right next to Lucas pinched him.
Lucas looked at him with a look that read "What was that for?" and Jacob replied with a non-chalant look that said "You know what"
After Dinner.
"What was this pinch for?" asked Lucas as he and Jacob were walking and talking.
"Stop scaring the girl like that, you make her uncomfortable" said Jacob
"I do not know what you are talking about" said Lucas as he feigned ignorance.
"Lucas you and I both know that you are trying to do something there" said Jacob as he did not look surprised.
"Okay fine you caught me" said Lucas
"Well my future daughter in law, must learn not to be scared, instead of her avoiding eye contact, she should just tell me that I make her uncomfortable directly" said Lucas
"Luke your methods never cease to amaze me" said Jacob as he sighed.
"I advise that you stop that, before you "future daughter in law" thinks badly of you" said Jacob.
"Whatever you say Jake" said Lucas as he shrugged off what Jacob said.
