Upon approaching the Sharma Doctor Sheffield made sure to lose her men first before going to the Sharma's sacred hut, those were the conditions. "Only the one who holds the Cross can communicate with the Sharma" and that's what the Sharma's assistant told Doctor Sheffield. The Cross was indeed ripe and ready to be harvested because it glowed so much in such a way it looked like a light coming from the Cross.
