1.HISTORY OF HARIPUR Haripur was founded in 1822. Haripur means "Town of Hari". Haripur was derived by the name of "Hari Singh Nalwa". He was the Sikh General of Ranjit Singh Army. He was the Governor of Kashmir in 1822 to 1823. Haripur was built as a fortress surrounded by a wall which was 3.7 m thick and 15 m high and had only four opening gates. The population in 1901 was 5,578.

4. ADMINISTRATION Haripur District was tehsil of Abbottabad District in 1992. Haripur District is divided into three Tehsils which are sub-divided into a total of 44 Union Councils. In the north and west of Haripur are Pashtun areas.
5. GEOGRAPHY Haripur District is situated at latitude 33° 44' to 34° 22' and longitude 72° 35' to 73° 15'. It is 610m above the sea level.
