*Light of Death: Significantly boosts the resistances and attack of the created undead in proportion to Necromancy level in a range of 10 kilometres. Activated as the spell's name is enunciated*
"Nice skill!" Kai mumbled to himself and instantly dodged a rather weak attack from one of his newly-raised undead. Kai sighed, his undead were far too weak to even overpower a regular citizen, let alone a stampeding army of better-looking undead.
"Go forth, my minions!" Kai yelled still to unleash his ten undead upon an army of hundreds.
Gort could only growl in response to his foolishness since his undead cared not about any of his commands. It was common knowledge that the more undead you created, the harder it was to issue commands to them. That's why it was always dangerous for necromancers to team up. He readied his axe again. It still had Deer's blood on it when he went to pick it up.
Lloyd was rather calm as the undead and their allies always focused on a battle of attrition. It was easy to repel most attacks, but days-long unending attacks would soon start dwindling their numbers. Without Gort and himself, it would be hopeless. However, Lloyd's sinister smile on his face almost showed how glad he was to have found a potentially incredible pawn.
The army of undead and an odd necromancer stood out amidst the undead as the army closed in. After all, they didn't want to join in the fight personally. Not all of them as dreadful to face as the City Lord.
While Kai kept on beaten up by his weakly creations, Gort composed his breathing. He took a lunging stance, laid his axe along his right arm during the stance and shot forward, enough to stun Kai. Gort only left a few words behind, "Fight on, you foul undead."
"See?" Kai said. "That wasn't very supportive of you."
Kai looked back at Lloyd, seeing the impatient City Lord, he unwillingly started running toward the undead army that still terrified him. His creations were also very scary, indeed, but they barely had any strength. As he ran toward the army, his small squads beating him followed.
Kai was almost in a daze, seeing how Gort fought. His swings always took care of multiple enemies and cut through them like butter. However, the necromancers weren't bad, either; they either cast spells to slow him down or controlled the undead to obstruct him profusely.
"Kai, before I forget!" yelled Lloyd from behind. "If you retreat before this battle, I'll strike with dark bolts of lightning!"
"Wha-"
Before he could finish his words, a bolt of black lightning streaked through the air and struck the ground next to him. If Kai had eyes, they'd be bulging right now. He wasn't sure whether he had enough defence to endure the attack that exploded a chunk of the solid rock under his feet. His speed while running suddenly left behind his slow undead as he charged into battle for the fear of his life.
"Good!" Lloyd laughed as he took another sip of tea. He had a brew with him, oddly enough.
Kai's heart raced as he entered head-first into the rows of the undead, but those bolts of lightning seemed more dangerous compared to these flesh-eating feral creatures. "What the hell kind of crazy world is this!" Kai screamed as he noticed he was headed straight for a necromancer disguised as one of the undead.
Kai flailed his arms as he ran toward the necromancer as if a 6-year-old child figuring out a new way to fight. Necromancer seemed taken aback that her location was predicted so accurately more than anything, but she was no fool. Rows of skeletons and zombies instantaneously changed directions and cut him off.
Kai's flailing attack, however, seemed to be doing the trick. Undead rushing at him would stagger and drop on the ground as soon as they were hit with a good angle. The necromancer's eyes bulged at the scene, but she soon composed herself and chanted a spell. The spell seemed to give the zombies and skeletons around him claws of steel all of a sudden, and their relentless attacks started making an impact.
Some skeleton managed to put its claws through Kai's eye sockets and oddly enough, Kai suddenly lost his vision. It was pure darkness when his eye sockets were fully covered, it seemed. In a rush of fear, he sent a straight punch at the skeleton, shattering its ribcage as it fell on the ground, inanimate once again.
"What kind of creature did that guy create?!" the necromancer said as her eyes wandered toward Lloyd. She had pure hatred in her eyes.
Kai, at this point, was looking at the skeleton he shattered into bits on the ground. "Wait for a second," he thought. "I am actually powerful!"
Kai suddenly realised for the first time ever, he started enjoying his time in this world. He reduced the undead into dust with his successive punches. He also noticed his fingers also had very sharp tips, sharp enough to sever the head of the zombies from their bodies with a single swipe. As Kai had his fun, the necromancer's despair deepened.
"Help our sister!" another man raised his voice. He wore similar robes and was distinguished as a necromancer. As he said those words, more undead obstructed Kai's path. While Kai destroyed one undead with each swing of his arm, there seemed to be no end to them. However, he stopped when he noticed one of the undead attacking him was one of his own. His undead finally made it to the battle.
"I never had so much fun in my life before!"
"What the actual-" one of the newly-arrived necromancers said as they saw Kai speak. "It speaks!" another added.
"Light of Death," Kai suddenly mumbled, even though he had already been feeling sleepy. It was his first time feeling this time of rush. He had never even gotten into a fight before, it was a new feeling he wanted to venture further into.
As soon as the dark light from his spell hit them, Kai's undead almost lost their silly looks and wore more serious ones. Even though they weren't superior to the other undead around them, it seemed they no longer attacked Kai and seemed more organised.
Gort, on the other side, was fighting the majority of the army by himself, clearly, they thought of him as a bigger threat. Gort was great at reducing their numbers, but in the heat of the battle, the waves of enemies felt endless.
Kai found himself laughing. His laugh felt abnormal, more psychotic. It was a part of him that he never knew existed. Perhaps, it was a new part of him that enjoyed destruction to its full limit. His laugh echoed as he turned tens of undead into fine dust before reaching the female necromancer from before.
