Chapter 13 - Lost

The awaited day for Aiden came as he was now getting the first commission from the board, he decided do a bronze tiered quest at first to take it easy, the same woman working had her own suspicions before Aiden explained that he was taking it easy since he had just arrived a few days ago and it was his first time doing tasks. He registered the commission and at the same time...

The notification Aiden was expecting appeared, he was overjoyed by the fact that a bronze tiered task gave this much from his system, although it may seem not that plenty, for his current level and stats, it was pretty bountiful for him. He arrived at one of the circular pads that was quite familiar to him, it was a teleporter pad, he had used it once when he was a kid, and he was about to use it once again. The moment he step foot on it, it scanned his card and the moment he blinked, he was already in another area, where wild life existed. He arrived at the scene of a shady place from the tree's blocking the sunlight in front of him, he also some other adventurer's and also a small area with snacks, beverages in a vending machine, and also some benches to sit on. It was a small resting area covered in a light barrier.

Since he wasn't any exhausted, he decided to already set off and quickly do it before Monday, or Sunday. He was currently finding for traces of wolves, he was currently holding a silver tiered sword he created, and a little dagger attached to his waist. He couldn't find any signs of wolfborn so he decided to go further. After about a hour of walking, he heard some rustling down at his right side. He activated energy perception as he saw a more detailed scope of living beings around him, he sensed the life energy of trees, plants, and many things. He then noticed about 2 wolf like animals at his right side. He then reassembled his weapon to a spear in order not to indulge in close fights, the spear took 25 more mana than the sword since it was longer, and although he was a complete amateur at using a spear, it was only to make the enemies be wary of him, he can always convert it to a sword at last second. He disabled energy perception the moment he was already sure of their movements in order not to waste anymore mana.

The wolves on the other hand growled, the human (Aiden) has become aware of their presence, it was pointless to hide themselves so they didn't beat around the bush and showed themselves. Aiden was still standing there when one lunged at him, while the other one was circling the area finding an opening. He dodged the wolf lunging at him as he looked at the other wolf, he activated Eye of All Knowing.

It seems that the other one was superior in speed, while the other one was superior in strength, and the wolf circling the area would go for a strike whenever an opening arises, Aiden already converted the spear to a sword to strike back, he attempted blocking the wolf's strike by using the sword's fuller as a shield, sure enough, the impact was much stronger than what he expected, he then grabbed the small dagger down his waist and threw it at the wolf who keeps lunging at him at him, he then made the sword a shield in order to block the other wolf who tried to strike him from his back. He didn't want to use his fire ability in order to improve his constitution in fighting, and also since the ability he had registered was different, if he used hell or holy fire, burn marks were sure to arise.

He kept the pace for minutes shifting from a sword to shield, sometimes he would even confuse himself and switch the weapons almost getting him get hit, he was barely able to dodge it because of the difference in speed, his face had 2 small cuts, it wasn't that bad but it stings a little, he then adapted to the situation and moved to a more narrow area where the other wolf would struggle, once he was sure that the other one was having a hard time getting around, he shifted his attention on the other wolf. He was currently fighting with bronze weapons, although he could just use silver tiered weapons, he wouldn't be able to gain real experience in fighting, if a silver tiered beast did get out of his rope, he wouldn't be able to have a clean slice, and he wouldn't be able to fight it since he only relies on the different tiers of weapons.

He turned the sword to a spear and did a long strike, he then missed and immediately turned the spear into a dagger, the wolf lunged at him as he ducked making the wolf miss him as he threw a dagger, while the dagger was on air, the wolf was ready to dodge it when it turned to a huge circular saw, this took Aiden an extra 75 mana to make but it was able to defeat 1 wolf, while relieved, the other wolf was already going to strike him.

A notification distracted him making him unable to dodge the wolf, he used his shoulder to block the impact, the wolf's fangs was inserted onto Aiden's arm not wanting to let go, Aiden used this opportunity to kill him as he grabbed the saw beside him, he transformed it to a long dagger stabbing the wolf at its neck.

Aiden then disabled twilight conjuration and started healing himself, he used 34 mana from healing himself as he went and tried finding one more wolf in order to complete his quest. The card then absorbed the wolves corpses which shocked Aiden, he was about to put it in his inventory when the card absorbed it itself.

Casting that aside, he just sighed and stretched a little before finding his next prey, he only needed one more and he would go back to the adventurer's guild, and then eventually go back home, although the current quest won't take much of his time, he wouldn't want to risk anything, and he would have to do silver tiered quests next in order not to arise any suspicions. Knowing that some wolves found him lurking around that part of the forest, a wolf base must be near so he casted energy perception and widened the range in one particular area. Although energy perception has a limited distance, if he tried concentrating it on one way, the distance would go further only in that direction he focused it onto, and he would be unable to see the flows of energy around him. He used it for 2 minutes costing him 240 mana, with the mana he used earlier from healing, he only had 200 mana left so he stopped, and decided to find a wolfs hideout with his bare feet. He searched for another hour and hasn't come across one yet. He was almost giving up because he thinks that he is already lost in the forest. He tried trailing the way he went from because he might've strayed too far from the original location, he tried looking at the ground to see any signs of his footsteps, once he located his own footsteps, he simply trailed them back causing him to further stray himself from his original location.

The footsteps he actually followed were another traveler's footsteps, who only seemed to resembled his.

While moving staring at what he thought to be his own footsteps, he heard a rustle down his back end. Aiden looked satisfied that he was finally able to go home, but before looking at his back, the beast's breathing was more heavy that the wolves he actually fought, and the air it let out reached his back sending him shivers, it was like a fan blowing onto him, the warm breath made him unable to look back, he used energy perception for a brief second to see how big the monster is. It was bigger than himself, he didn't want to fight even when he noticed that the beast was injured, he was still inexperienced in a battlefield full of mysteries, its not like only bronze tiered beasts could be found there, if you go deeper, finding gold-platinum tiered beasts we're possible. Knowing how he walked for a hour, it was possible that he was already lost. "I'm pretty dumb myself" He muttered under his breath.

With twilight conjuration, he was thinking of making a silver tiered object that he can use in order to block his way, "maybe a car, a large table or something, I can only make at least silver tiered objects, gold is out of the question" he inwardly thought. He was still hesitating since something that big might even use all of his mana. He suddenly felt the beast get closer so he didn't have time to hesitate, with his remaining mana, he tried making the largest thing he could think of and began to run, he then saw his mana drastically decreasing but then stopped at 1, he now turned back to see what he had created only to see it getting destroyed by the monster chasing him.

It was big in size but thin, his ribs we're showing and its saliva was dripping, the monster was clearly hungry, he was even dumbfounded that a monster as big and intimidating like that would be ravenous, it was also able to destroy the silver material that he made meaning that it was at least a gold tiered beast. When it was destroyed, he only got 245 of his mana back which was really bad for him. It seems that if someone else breaks the objects he made from twilight conjuration, he would have 50% of the mana he used. He ran away as fast as possible but the moment the beast moved, he was already on the ground coughing up blood, his health which was originally 100% became 13%, he also seemed to hear some of his ribs crack.

In desperation without thinking, he healed himself instantly which only reverted his health to 43% with only 20 mana left. He was gritting his teeth while looking up to the monster he encountered with saliva dripping to the ground. With the dagger that he brought everywhere for self defense, he tried throwing it to the large beast, but when he attempted to throw it, his chest suddenly tightened as if something was poking inside it, it was like thousand of ants has invaded his chest and started biting. The dagger fell to the ground while the beast was playing with its prey, Aiden. In a desperate situation, he tried crawling away, the land at his back then shifted and turned to a wall, he crawled to his right side which also turned into a wall, vice versa.

He was getting boxed up to the corner with no way to go, he attempted to jump over the wall but the higher he jumped, the more it also got higher, it was lick its tracing Aiden's movements so that he can't go anywhere, and each time he landed his chest would always hurt so much, he didn't scream for any help and just clenched his fist that blood was already dripping from his palm. He tried to always ignore the pain from his broken ribs but it doesn't always go up to his plan. He started coughing up blood which seemed to irritate his chest even more and while doing so, the beast had already stepped three times closer to Aiden.
