Chereads / Dragon's Spear / Chapter 26 - Chapter 25

Chapter 26 - Chapter 25

Noah walked into the larger cave, and he looked around. He saw multiple large piles of gold coins, weapons, armor, and other various treasures. 'This isn't too bad to fight in.' Noah thought. 'This would be bad for long battles as moving around will be quite hard, but it is good for ambushes. That's for later however, as I need to find that spear.' Noah began to walk towards the first pile, and he began to look around the foot of it. He did this for a few moments before he looked up at the top of the pile, and he began to climb up to the top of it. 'Being higher up will give me a better place to look around.' It was a bit hard climbing on the gold coins at first as they were loose, and they moved around each time he took a step. He eventually got used to it, and his pace increased. Once he got to the top of the pile of gold, he looked around for any spears that were lying around. He saw multiple swords, axes, and bows, but he only saw a few spears. 'I don't really know what the legendary spear looks like, but it has to be magical if it were to be able to pierce dragon scales. None of these spears appear to be magical. Let's move onto the next pile.' He thought, and he began to move towards the next pile of gold.

Noah repeated this process a quite few times, but to no avail. He had found a lot more spears, but none of them felt magical. He was quite far away from the entrance to the cave at this point, and, as time crept by, he kept looking towards what he could see of it to see if Nightmare was going to appear. He was terrified that Nightmare would get here before he could find the legendary spear. He began to walk over to the next gold pile when his fears were justified all of a sudden. He heard thundering footsteps come from the hall. He panicked, looking frantically around, and wondered what he was going to do. He looked at the gold pile he was currently on, and he had an idea. He quickly began to dig his way into the gold in order to hide as fast as he possibly could. He managed to get into the gold pile, and he moved around so he could see the entrance to the cave before letting the gold that was falling around him to settle. When he was finished, you could barely see him in the pile of gold with the falling gold coins being the only thing that showed that something was wrong.

The falling gold coins made a small sound each time they hit something, and Noah was fiercely praying that Nightmare wasn't hearing them. Plink, plink the gold coins went, each sound making him more frightened than before. Noah stared daggers at the cave entrance while the gold coins just plinked away as they fell until they eventually stopped. Noah breathed a sigh of relief, disturbing the coins that were on him, and he quickly went still. It was just in time as he heard Nightmare's footsteps stop for a bit before they got a lot louder and faster. Noah wanted as Nightmare burst into the cave, a look of pure rage on his face. 'Took him a while to get through that slide and hall.' Noah thought. In reality, while it did take Nightmare longer than it usually did, Noah's sense of time was distorted by his fear.

"I know you're in here somewhere! Show yourself!" Nightmare roared into the cave. The force of which sent gold coins flying through the air. Noah stayed still. "It's no use, I'll find you eventually." Noah stayed still, and Nightmare began to walk around the cave. "You know you're quite stupid for staying in here, thief. You're just making it easier for me to find you." Noah stayed still. "You would've lived a lot longer if you had just grabbed what you wanted and ran, but you decided to stay. I'm not sure why, unless." Nightmare paused for a moment, and Noah stayed still. Nightmare then looked to the wall of the cave that was across from Noah, and he ran over to it. Noah stayed still as Nightmare looked around for some, and then he breathed a sigh of relief as if to say that what he was looking for was still here. 'Bingo, I knew it.' Noah thought to himself, cracking a small smile 'So the legendary spear is here, but it's all the way over there. How am I going to get over there without being found out.' He began to plan a few ways of how he was going to get over there, but none seemed like they were going to work out.

"Well if you're not going to show yourself, then I'll find you myself!" Nightmare roared before walking over to the closest gold pile, and struck it, sending gold coins flying. The sound of the gold coins being sent flying, and the sound of them hitting the ground was nearly deafening. Noah got an idea when he heard this, and he waited for Nightmare to strike the next pile of gold. Once Nightmare had done this, Noah shot out of his hiding spot and began to run towards where the legendary spear was. He stopped running once the sound the flying gold coins made faded out. He repeated this process multiple times.

Nightmare wasn't striking random piles of gold, he was methodically moving in a circle, and Noah took advantage of this. He approached the area where the legendary spear was from the side that Nightmare wasn't going. When he finally reached this area, Nightmare was about halfway across the cave. Gold coins, weapons, and other various treasures were scattered all over the ground. 'Wow, I am lucky none of those weapons hit me on my way over here. Anyways, time to find that spear.' He thought. Noah was at the place where Nightmare started from, and he began to look around the place where Nightmare had knocked over the gold piles. There were a few spears that were on the ground, but none of them appeared to be magical in any way. Nightmare then struck another pile of gold, and some of the gold coins were sent over to where Noah was. He instinctively flinched and covered his head, but then he heard the sound of something hitting glass. He looked over to where the sound came from, and he saw some glass peering out of a small pile of gold. He walked over to where the glass was, and he saw that it was a container. He looked inside of the class container, and he saw a spear that looked very magical. 'So this is it. The legend was correct, and this is the spear in it.' He thought.

The spear had a yellow-orange blade that faintly glowed, and it had a dark brown wooden shaft that had all sorts of runes engraved in it. Noah was somewhat familiar with runes as he saw a runesmith on a trip he went with his father on a few years ago, and the runesmith had taught him a few things. However, he didn't recognize any of the runes that were on the spear, and they looked very complicated. Noah tried to lift up the glass container but he couldn't lift it up. He inspected the glass, and it didn't look heavy at all. He tried to lift it up again, but it was to no avail. The glass container wouldn't move an inch. 'Well if I can't lift it off, then I'll just break into it.' He thought, drawing his fist back before punching the glass container. He didn't really think that it would work, but the glass shattered once his fist hit it. Some glass shards dug themselves into his hand, and he quickly pulled them out.

The sounds of the glass shattering rang out throughout the cave, and the legendary spear fell into the gold coins. Nightmare stopped himself from striking another pile of gold, and he looked over to where the glass container was. Noah looked over to where Nightmare was, and their eyes met. Nightmare began to run over to where Noah was, and he scrambled over where the legendary spear fell into the coins. He quickly pushed the gold coins that had covered the spear away. He picked up the spear just as Nightmare was halfway across the cave. Noah quickly took his old spear off his back, and he threw it against the wall. He looked Nightmare dead in the eyes, and he held the spear in both his hands, prepared to fight to the death.

"You bastard!" Nightmare roared, and he threw himself at Noah with as much force as he could possibly muster.
