Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Meriedeth Salazar

It's been a week since classes started and it's been a week that I'm lying to my brother.

He keeps on asking if I already have friends, I told him that I have but we are not that close yet, even if I don't really have.

Why is this happening to me?!

I fixed the jacket that I'm wearing, today is Friday. I frowned because of what I saw at the school gate. There are a lot of students giving flyers to other students, there are also some students wearing some costumes.

Election of student government? Student council?

"Good morning, if you like anything about science. Please join our club! A club for aspiring scientists! Science believers!" the student said and handed me a flyer. "We will wait for your arrival at our club room this 3pm! See you!" and the student wave it's hand and continue on giving flyers to other students who are entering the gate.

What?

I looked at the flyer. There was a printed drawing of scientists and other equipment that you can see inside a science laboratory. There was also a time and date, also the place for the meeting.

I was about to leave when somebody gave me another flyer. I just accepted their flyers, and I have no plans of attending a club.

I think around 20 clubs? Or more?! I am holding a lot of flyers!

"Hey! Excuse me!" I looked at the one who spoke, a student handed me another flyer. "If you're interested in ghost hunting, join our club! See you sa club room!"

What the heck?

While I was walking at the hallway two girls blocked my way, there are holding baskets.

"Good morning po, Ate," they greeted. "Here's a small token from the cookery club. We cook food, sweets and many more, hope you will like it. We hope you will join our club, go to our club later!"

When I arrived at the classroom, the bags of my classmates are there but there are only a few persons there. I saw Eryx reading a book, he glanced at me and returned his gaze to the book he is reading.

"You got a lot of flyers, Miss Salazar," said the girl who is sitting beside me. I forgot her name again.

"Stop calling me 'Miss Salazar', take this, it's yours," I said and gave her a pack of cookies, the one where the cookery club members gave me?

""Really? Thank you," she said while smiling ang accepting the pack of cookies. "What club did you join in?" she asked.

"I really have no plans on joining one."

"It's a requirement, Salazar," I looked at behind me, psh.

"What if I really don't want to join?"

"Then, you're not going to proceed to fourth year."

"What?"

"No clubs, no advancing to the next year level. You did not listen to what Miss Rios said," and shook his head.

I did not speak another word. I really don't want to join any club.

"Are there no classes today?"

"The morning session will be recruitments for clubs and viewing their club rooms while in the afternoon session is the memberships."

I sighed, I wished I just absent for today. Tsk.

"You're planning on going home, Salazar?" Eryx asked while raising a brow at me and closed the book he was reading a while ago.

"Why? You will report me to Miss Rios?"

"Maybe."

"Eryx, don't be like that to S-S--Salazar," my seatmate rebuked him.

"She should follow the rules, Shelanie. Well, it's not my lost if she'll not enter a club," and he shrugged.

"What club did you joined in?" I asked.

"Interested?" and he smirked.

"Never mind."

"I'm a member of the journalism club," my seatmate answered while smiling. I think her name is Shelanie? Argh. I'm so bad at names.

"Well, I joined two clubs. If you're planning to join one, I'll tell you."

"No, thanks."

I stood up and went out of the room. I heard Shelanie called me but I did bother to look back at her.

I'm hungry, damn it. I only ate a small amount of food because I woke up late. If I only knew that this day will be only for recruiting members for a club, hays.

I went to the cafeteria at the fourth year's building. I ordered some food, it's great that there are only a few people, it's not crowded. While I'm eating, somebody suddenly sat in front of me.

From the looks of it, this girl is my senior. She have a clip that is a shape of a shield and it's placed at the left part of her polo uniform. I heard that all fourth years has the same clip. She smiled at me, she has long hair and she has fine skin complexion. She looks familiar.

"Can I talk to you for a minute?"

"Are you going to recruit me for your club?" I asked directly, she laughed and nodded.

"Well, since, you know the reason why I'm talking to you. Can you hear me out?"

"Do I have a choice?" she laughed again, I continue to eat my food.

Is she that happy?

"I'm Melanie Navarro, a member of the swimming club. Vice-president to be exact."

I looked at her and she smiled widely.

"Interested? In the swimming club we can teach you many things. Types of strokes, we also have out of school activities. Uhm, camping? No, what do you call that…" she closed her eyes while holding her chin.

"Like training?"

"Yes! Like that, but, not at school. We also have practice matches with different schools."

"I'm not interested."

"Also, we teach how to rescue when somebody is drowning and first-aid."

"Sorry. I'm not interested. Just recruit somebody else."

I stood up, I lost my appetite. I was about to leave when she grabbed my hand, she placed two cards there. I raised my brow.

"Those are free passes if you want to take a swim at the pool. But, if you're a member, you can take a swim anytime you want," she said while smiling and let go of my hand.

I went back to our classroom, Shelanie and Eryx are still there. They looked at me, I sat down at my chair.

"Where have you been, Salazar?" Eryx asked.

"In a place where you're not around, Fuentabella."

"Oh? You have free passes to the pool area," I looked towards and looked at the cards that I'm holding.

"Take it, I'm not that interested about it," I said to Shelanie and gave her the card. "Give the other one to Fuentabella."

"I'll just take these two. Eryx doesn't need it anyway."

I frowned because of what she said. I glanced at Eryx who is raising a brow at me.

"He's a member?" I asked, Shelanie nodded.

"Really?"

"You're a member of the swimming club, right, Eryx?"

I looked at Eryx, he just nodded.

"Really?"

"Let me guess, Ate Mel recruited you?" he asked.

"I'm not interested in joining any clubs," as I turn my back.

"Well, I think Pres said that they will open the pool area for everybody later. We will let students see what we do in our club."

"Really? Some demonstrations?" Shelanie asked

"Yup. You're welcome to go there if you want to."

"Salazar, let's check it out later!" Shelanie invited me.

"Uh…"

"You don't want to?" I can feel how she became sad.

"You're not going to join any club, right? You can accompany Shelanie later while she's filling up her attendance at the club she joined in, then you two can go to the pool area afterwards."

"I don't want to."

"Please, Salazar. We are just going to check it out, they will not force as to join anyway."

I took a deep breath and looked at her. She's acting cute just to make me agree with her. I glance at Eryx and he just smirked.

I don't want to join any clubs.

"Fine. I'll just tag along."

"Maybe you'll find a club that will peak your interest and making you join it, Salazar."

"I have no plans."

"Just let her be, Shelanie," Eryx said and stood up. "If she will see me swim, maybe she will change her mind. See you later, girls," he said goodbye and went out of the room.

How did I ended up in this situation?!
