Originally he assumed, that by discarding his emotions, Derik would be no different from monsters who can't tell the difference between right and wrong but he soon realized how wrong he was.
Judging based on Derik's response, he got to understand that Derik's mind is clearer than usual now since it's not clouded by emotions. Right now he lacks the emotions needed to make silly decisions and can be considered more effective now.
