Chapter 1 - The grass is not greener on the other side

Ugh. Who said that adventures would be so cool? The one who said that must be never been into a journey like this. Traveling half year with ship, taking bath once every half a month. Facing rough seas like indian sea and pirates in Singapore. The occasional hungers because of strange food and language barriers! Dastard! Every island has their own different languages! Then the mosquitoes! Those things are the real definition of devil I swear.

Hell hath no fury like woman scorned.

I suppose I can nod with those words. Sea is just like a lady. A feisty one at that. Her temper tantrum would cause a maximum destruction with ease. But she sure is beautiful. Especially when calm like this. Sprawling myself under the scorching sun is calming. You would never see a sun like this in Portugal.

"How many stops left?" I asked Lotte who leaning against the mast.

"We're here." She didn't even looked at me instead she took a long smoke before puffing it out at the sky. What a shame. Those beautiful lips were soiled by filthy smell.

"Stop looking at me like that. This is my last tobacco and I hate sharing."

"Lotte, dear, why would I stuff my mouth with filthy smoke?"

She snorted, "Boys! All hands on deck! Prepare for docking!"

She's an expert at ignoring me. I give her that.

Anyway, we're in Nossa Senhora de Anunciada. Well the Portuguese called the place with those long names. But we're parading with English flag here, so we would call them with Ambon. Simpler and better in my honest opinion.

After arriving, everything seemed like a blur. Lotte's crew was jumping to the sea, throwing ropes and anchor to stop the ship sailing with the tide. The rest were busy with maintaining the weaponry and putting down perimeter. I wish I had a cool crew like this.

This place was located in the bay area, I doubt rough waves could reach this place, I said to Lotte. But still she was so adamant on securities. She said that the Dutch can be nosey pirate. I never actually meet them so I would hold my judgments until then.

"Yo Alfonso, me and the boys will look for our trade partner, in the meantime I suggest you look for your contact," she ordered as her hand shoved a tobacco in her pipe.

Getting off of the ship I heard someone call out to me, "Hey!" I turned towards the voice to find a well figured young man around his 'age' with short blonde hair and three gold earrings in his left earlobe. I also took notice of the sword he had on his right hip. Potentially dangerous.

I raised my eyebrow at the man, "Yes? Can I help you?" Hopefully whatever this guy wanted would actually help him find the contact in this town.

The stranger gave me a lazy look, seemingly sizing up whether I was dangerous or not, the way I had just done to him, "Have you seen a guy with a red vest, blue pants, and ablack hat on his head? He probably would have had a stupid look on his face. I think he might be in the grasp of a bird or something."

I scratched my head, "I don't know about the description, I just arrived here with my crew" I pointed towards Lotte's ship, "asking the locals would be your best bet."

The man sighed and started moving towards the indicated direction, "Alright, thanks I guess." I bid him goodbye and returned to business as usual. Sitting on the dock, I was looking at a map given to me courtesy of Lotte. Bless that tobacco sucker.

After a while I began to wonder if leaving the homeland was such a good idea, 'Man, this whole work is going to be harder than I thought.' Sighing to myself, I made to return to the ship when the noise of cannon fire rang out. Looking around to see what was up, I ended up witnessing Lotte's ship getting a new hole. I stood with a look of disbelief on my face, "Bloody hell! I almost died!"

I was broken from my stupor by three privateer that had walked up on me from behind, "It looks like the captain fired off one of his special cannonballs. This poor shlub's ship is done for."

I was still confused, "The captain? Whose captain? Who's the brave captain that did that to my friend's ship?"

The privateers looked at me stupefied look on their faces, "Captain Jacob de Jong. He runs this town didn't you know?"

"Well I just arrived and I truly have no knowledge on that. Sorry for my outburst here."

"Understandable lad. What brings you here in the corner of the world?"

I snorted at his words because I can agree to that as well.

"I was looking for a lady called Martha the half-blood"
