The thought was since I could receive information from other living beings could I also send information?
Not wanting to test it on another subject, I wanted to test it on myself so when I got to the base of the mountain I immediately re-fueled and brought forth my energy.
I made it into a sharp blade and then slowly brought it down on… myself.
I cut off a piece of my rocky flesh and then rolled myself ten yards away.
A thing tendril of energy connected me to the small chunk. I concentrated on the connection hardening the tendril and letting the energy flow from me into the small chunk without it dissipating.
Getting the energy into the chunk was not an issue because of all the years of work manipulating it.
The real struggle was getting my perspective over to the smaller piece. It felt like I was doing nothing but wasting energy but I didn't give up and continued with the same monotonous exercise.
Eventually, after two decades, my consciousness began to waver, I didn't leave my huge rock form It felt more like the chunk became so rich with my energy I could control it without a tendril like a remote car.
I could maintain my shimmer tendril for five hours now and thank goodness because it was taking me quite a while to flood the chunk with enough energy for me to manipulate it.
Instead of being connected to that chunk of rock, it was more precise to say I was connected to the energy flooding it, whatever it grazed as it moved I sensed.
This proved a few things, one was that I and everything else around me that was living could have its consciousness invaded.
Secondly that I could extract and keep or extract and release the consciousness that I secured from other living beings leaving them either brain-dead or just simply hurting.
I wasn't special if I could do this so could others and that put me in a bad spot because I as a rock cannot run away quickly if someone came and started to break me it wouldn't be long before they reached the core that housed my existence.
Also if something read me and found out my secret they would experiment on me to no end trying to find an answer to what I am especially if humans existed in this world. I was not afraid of death I was afraid of what comes after.
So now I had a new goal and that was to use shimmer without being detected.
A hundred years later I concluded It was impossible.
I tried many things like letting out a little shimmer at a time or creating a radar that pings but everything alerted the little critters I was experimenting on. If I could have breathed, I would have sighed over a million times.
I have learned to celebrate my anniversaries as they come not taking any time for granted.
I have learned to adapt to make up for my obvious use of energy.
I buried my main body not too deep underground and used a smaller rounder version of myself to move around and explore always tethered to my main body but ready to cut it loose at any time.
I trained on controlling the small rock remotely while it took me almost four hours to establish a wireless connection it took no less than fifteen minutes.
Another ten years passed I was able to shave that time down even more to five minutes it was getting harder and harder to do.
My main body is huge over ten feet high and with the same width, by experimenting with the ratio of minerals distributed between my main body and my smaller one I achieved a harmonious balance almost like two identical towers.
My shimmer can extend all the way out to approximately one hundred yards, that is the radius in which I lived my life.
Life is simple I have no enemies all the living animals go about their life and I go about mine. My goal was to figure out if there was something that could erode my consciousness and completely wipe away my existence.
At least my memories to do that I had to catalog as many minerals and materials as I could so that I could build a solid hypothesis on what I even was.
I would use the smaller round ball of myself propelling myself throughout the mountainside while maintaining my connection with my main body, my shimmer control was at an all-time high.
It was impressive, to say the least, that was until one day as I was doing my rounds and collecting data that something stepped into my senses that made my whole being quiver.
It was a group of humanoids.
