"What kind of scum robs a kid"?
The little boy looks genuinely surprised as I lick my fingers.
The soft voice whispers but I pick up on it just fine.
His dirty black hair grows to his shoulders, skinny arms rest on his knees as he sits cross legged.
The bread wasn't much, but it was good.
"This kind of scum".
"I am not stealing".
"I'm paying for it, I'll even give you a name".
"I am a noble if you would believe me".
I smile while laying on my side in the alley.
The kid is sitting cross legged, he is just waiting for a chance to run.
He tried to run the moment I spoke, but a pulse of mana made him feel as if worms were crawling on his skin.
"What kind of kid moves alone"?
"Even the slaves in the east knew never to move alone".
I sound bored, but I know the kid is scared.
"You aren't alone... are you"?
His small throat tightens but his brown eyes remain steadfast.
